Mercier Loses a Flip

Nível 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Jason Mercier had an opponent all in and at risk moments ago holding {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} against an opponent's {a-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}. Mercier remained ahead after the flop fell {k-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}, but the {a-Spades} spiked on the turn to give his opponent a leading pair of aces.

The {9-Clubs} bricked off on the river, and Mercier fell to 145,000 chips.

Boeree Raises the Turn

Nível 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Liv Boeree was faced with a bet of 6,200 on a flop of {9-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{j-Spades}. The Team Pro stared at her opponent for a bit before calling, and the turn was the {k-Spades}. The player fired out another 5,800, and Boeree tanked once again before raising to 13,000.

The player folded, and Boeree pulled in the pot.

On to the Next One for Cohen

Nível 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

On her Day 1 flight, Sam Cohen doubled in one of the first hands of play. It was a dream start, but things stalled from there. She wasn't able to add much more throughout Day 1, and her time here in Day 2 was just cut short. We missed her elimination, but she shed some light via social media:

"Out. Lost big pot with jacks that turned into a flush then c/r 87dd on K83dd, and get my last 25bbs in on diamond turn and lose to QTdd. Fun game. One tournament left here and then gonna go explore New Zealand for a few days before heading to Vegas for Venetian and WSOPc."

Australia's Pride Can't Catch a Heart

Nível 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Joe Hachem
Joe Hachem

Just before the break we lost Joe Hachem.

We happened upon the action with 7,000 or so in the pot and a flop of {8-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{5-Hearts}. The players in the small and big blinds had checked and Hachem moved all in for 14,500 from the hijack. Brett Chalhoub then called from the button, the blinds folded, and the cards were turned up.

Hachem: {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}
Chalhoub: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}

Hachem was in need of a heart, but he came up empty as the {10-Clubs} blanked on the turn followed by the {A-Clubs} on the river.

"I have an ace," Hachem joked. "Good luck guys."

A Selfie and a Knockout

Dennis Huntly and Gus Hansen taking a selfie before the former eliminated the latter
Dennis Huntly and Gus Hansen taking a selfie before the former eliminated the latter

Moments after taking a selfie with Gus Hansen, Dennis Huntly eliminated the Great Dane.

Huntly opened to 1,600, Gus Hansen called, Barry Woods called in the hijack, and Jarred Graham defended his big blind. The flop came {a-Spades}{5-Spades}{3-Clubs}, Graham and Huntly both checked, and Hansen fired out 3,800. Woods and Graham both folded, but Huntly made the call.

The turn was the {6-Hearts}, Huntly checked again, and Hansen bet 7,400. Huntly tanked for a considerable amount of time, checking his hole cards twice, then called.

The {5-Clubs} completed the board, and Huntly led out for the first time, betting 16,000. Calling would only leave Hansen with 1,000 chips, so he opted to just go all in, and Huntly called. Hansen showed {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} for aces and fives, and hit the rail when Huntly exposed {8-Hearts}{5-Hearts} for trip fives.

Huntly now sits with 230,000 chips and an unforgettable selfie.

The Comeback Kid

Nível 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

A player known as "madmaxy888" online returned to Day 2 action with just 300 chips. That's right, we didn't forget a zero or two, he had only three antes after losing a coin flip on the last hand of his Day 1.

On the first hand of Day 2, he was in the big blind with {9-}{2-} off suit and tripled up when the board ran out {9-}{5-}{5-}{4-}{4-} and the two other players checked it down. Then on the next hand from the small blind, "madmaxy888" doubled with the {A-Clubs}{3-Clubs} versus an opponent's {A-}{K-} off suit by making a flush.

Then, he found another double with pocket queens against an opponent's {10-Spades}{3-Spades} and has 13,000 in chips at the first break.
