Riess Scores a Double Elimination

Nível 11 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Sorel Mizzi, who will return tomorrow for the 2014 Aussie Millions Main Event final table, opened for a raise only to have Ryan Riess three-bet to 70,000. Tony Bloom then moved all in from the button for 219,000, a short-stacked Mizzi called off, and Riess shrugged before calling to put both players at risk.

Mizzi: {8-Spades}{8-Hearts}
Bloom: {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}
Riess: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

All three players held a pocket pair, but of course Riess' ladies were best. The {10-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{5-Spades} flop wasn't particularly interesting, but the {3-Spades} turn was as it gave Bloom the best flush draw. The river was actually a spade to give Bloom the flush, but fortunately for Riess it was the {Q-Spades} to improve him to a full house.

"Good luck, Sorel," Riess offered Mizzi in regards to his big final table on Sunday.

The River Save the Younger Yong

Nível 11 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Wai Kin Yong, the son of Richard Yong who is also in the tournament, got his last 139,000 all in preflop holding the {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds} and was in big trouble against the {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} of Mike "Timex" McDonald.

Neither the {4-Clubs}{6-Spades}{j-Spades} flop nor {4-Diamonds} river helped Yong, and that meant he needed an ace on the river to stay alive. "Ace," he commanded, and wouldn't you know it, the dealer obliged with the {A-Clubs}.

Mizzi Getting Shorter

Nível 11 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Igor Kurganov checked on a flop of {5-Hearts}{j-Spades}{k-Clubs}, and Sorel Mizzi bet 30,000. Kurganov moved all in for 90,000 or so, and Mizzi made the call.

Kurganov: {8-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}
Mizzi: {q-Spades}{10-Spades}

Kurganov wasn't thrilled that Mizzi called, but a smile crept upon his face when he saw that his pair of fives was ahead for the moment. His smile grew larger after the turn ({4-Diamonds}) and the river ({7-Diamonds}), and he doubled to 178,000.

Mizzi is down to 38,500.

Juanda Busts Again

Nível 11 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Philipp Gruissem, who joined us on the latest episode of the PokerNews Podcast, called a raise from John Juanda preflop and the dealer fanned {6-Hearts}{10-Spades}{8-Spades}. It looked as if Gruissem check-called a shove - there was a hand in progress at an adjacent table that distracted us momentarily - and all of the chips went in the middle.

Gruissem: {a-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}
Juanda: {7-Spades}{7-Clubs}

The turn and river bricked {10-Diamonds}, {j-Diamonds} respectively, and Juanda was eliminated. Gruissem is up to 450,000 chips.

Lehmanski Runs Out of Timex

Nível 11 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

A preflop raising war resulted in Max Lehmanski getting his chips in against Mike "Timex" McDonald.

McDonald: {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds}
Lehmanski: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}

It was your classic flip, and on this hand it came down in favor of McDonald after the board ran out {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{j-Clubs}.

Watson Eliminated by Yong

Nível 11 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Just before the level went up, Mike Watson got his chips in holding the {k-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} and was looking to improve against the {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} of Richard Yong. That proved easier said than done though as the board ran out an uneventful {9-}{9-}{5-}{4-}{5-}. Watson missed and became one of the last Level 9 casualties.

Rettenmaier Flips Out

Nível 10 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

Marvin Rettenmaier was all in and at risk moments ago with {a-Spades}{k-Spades} against Tom Dwan's {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}. Durrrr's wired pair remained ahead as the board ran out {7-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{q-Hearts}, and Rettenmaier was eliminated.
