Lutes Cold Four-Bet Ships

Nível 28 : 50,000/100,000, 15,000 ante

Scott Stewart opened to 200,000 and Robert Schulz made it 630,000 in the cutoff. Travis Lutes shoved all in from the small blind after about 30 seconds of thought. It looked to be in the neighborhood of 4.1 million, and it was enough to get both Stewart and Schulz to muck their cards.

The Chips are Flying

Nível 28 : 50,000/100,000, 15,000 ante

Hand #1: A three-bet to 625,000 was in front of Richard Gryko and Artan Dedusha moved all in out of the big blind for 2,890,000 in total. The initial raiser had already folded and Gryko did so as well after some consideration.

Hand #2: Kfir Nahum shoved from under the gun and won the blinds and antes.

Hand #3: Wei Zhou raised to 250,000 from the cutoff and Dedusha called from the button. On the {K-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} flop, Zhou continued for 250,000 and Dedusha called before Zhou checked the {Q-Spades} turn. Dedusha bet 350,000 and Zhou's immediate check-raise to 700,000 did the trick to force a fold from Dedusha.

Gryko took down a hand right after to gain back the lost chips against Dedusha, while the Brit was sent back to where he was on the all-in move.

Alexander Greenblatt Eliminated in 65th Place ($101,444)

Nível 28 : 50,000/100,000, 15,000 ante
Alexander Greenblatt
Alexander Greenblatt

Alexander Greenblatt moved all in for 1,890,000 from middle position and action folded to David Guay on the button. He thought for a moment and then called. Marcel Luske was in the big blind and asked for a count but eventually folded.

Greenblatt tabled {8-Spades}{8-Hearts} and was disappointed to see that Guay held {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}.

"One time," smiled Greenblatt, on his feet.

The flop came {5-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} and Greenblatt still needed one of the remaining eights in the deck to improve. The turn was the {k-Spades} and the river was the {j-Hearts}, sending Greenblatt to the rail in 65th place for $101,444.

After Greenblatt left the table, Jake Bazeley looked at Luske and asked, "Did you take that long with king-deuce, Marcel?" Luske shook his head and Bazeley continued, "Oh, so you just take that long all the time. I think you should try to play as quick as possible in this tournament."

Kenny Hallaert Eliminated in 64th Place ($101,444)

Kenny Hallaert exit interview
Kenny Hallaert exit interview

John Hesp was in late position and raised to 250,000. Kenny Hallaert was on the button and called.

The flop was {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}{8-Spades} and both players checked to the turn which was the {k-Clubs}. Hesp led for 300,000 and Hallaert called.

The river was the {a-Diamonds} and Hesp checked. Hallaert reached back and fired out a bet of 600,000. Hesp immediately moved all in, having Hallaert's remaining 1,100,000 covered, which sent last year's final tablist squirming. Hallaert began to question and size up Hesp. He said, "I have a really strong hand right now." After a lot of debate and a few minutes, Hallaert called.

Hesp: {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}
Hallaert: {a-Hearts}{6-Hearts}

Hesp had flopped a set and rivered a full house which beat Hallaert's trip aces. Hallaert won't make it to back-to-back final tables but he does take home over $100,000 dollars and has another deep Main Event run to add to his resume.

Marvin Doubles Through Pham in Giant Pot

Nível 28 : 50,000/100,000, 15,000 ante
Joshua Marvin
Joshua Marvin

We caught up to the action on a board of {6-Spades}{8-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} where Christian Pham and Joshua Marvin were heads up with a bit more than 500,000 already in the pot. Marvin led out with a bet of 250,000. Pham decided to reraise, making it 900,000 to go. Marvin called.

The turn was the {Q-Clubs} and Marvin checked over to Pham. Pham bet 2,100,000 and, after a few seconds, Marvin moved all in for 4,285,000. Pham called quickly with a covering stack and their hands were turned up.

Pham: {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}
Marvin: {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}

Pham had turned top pair, but it was no good. He was still behind Marvin's kings and needed an ace or a queen to catch up. The river was the {4-Clubs} though, not improving Pham, so Marvin was able to double to just over 10 million while Pham dropped back to close to where he started the day.

"Sneaky, Sneaky"

Nível 28 : 50,000/100,000, 15,000 ante

Michael Krasienko completed the blind and Jack Sinclair made it 325,000. Krasienko called. He check-called 275,000 on the {k-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{a-Spades} flop. Both players checked the {10-Clubs}{q-Spades} runout.

Krasienko opened {a-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} for trips to win the pot.

"Sneaky," Sinclair said. "Sneaky, sneaky."

"Not the best river," Krasienko said. "But I was obviously calling."

"That's all I could do," Ghaneian said afterward. "It was a wonderful journey, and I did the best that I could."

Player Interview: Reed Hensel

Nível 28 : 50,000/100,000, 15,000 ante
Reed Hensel
Reed Hensel

Reed Hensel has slipped into Day 6 near the top of the counts by playing solid poker and slowly chipping up without a lot of fanfare. That did change a little bit when he added 1 million chips to his stack late in Day 5 after winning a preflop raising war with Richard Gryko.

Day 6 is a familiar sight to Hensel, who placed 70th in the 2009 Main Event. Hensel just bested that result as the 67 remaining players went on the first break of the day. That's when we found him to talk about his journey so far.

Hensel: I barely survived Day 1 and 2. I had less each day and just focused on surviving. And then a few things started to go my way, and I just started to increase my counts each day — Day 3, 4, and 5 and hopefully today. Today, I've lost a few small pots and got down to 5 million. Then I won a few pots, and now I'm sitting with around 6 million. I feel pretty good about it.

PokerNews: You have an excellent reputation as an online player. Does that experience help you here?

Hensel: I don't know about my reputation. I do play online, but I haven't won anything in about three years. I think online helps with exposing you to a lot of hands. It's really tough online now. I tried to play the online events this year, but I couldn't deposit with my credit card. I tried multiple cards, but I just couldn't get it to work, and I was too lazy to go to the cage and take care of it.

PokerNews: Back in 2009, you finished 70th, which is right where we are right now. Does your experience at this stage help you going forward?

Hensel: I don't know about that. It's more about the fact that I'm older and more mature. Eight years ago, I would lose a hand, and it would really mess me up, and now I just shake it off and move on to the next one.

PokerNews: Most of your tournament results are in no-limit. But you had a deep run in the $1,500 H.O.R.S.E. event this summer. Are you starting to add mixed games to your repertoire?

Hensel: When I play online, I play eight-game a little bit. Not like high stakes or anything, but just for fun. I enjoy the games. Tournament-wise, I really like the mixed games. When people only have to face one bet, instead of a bet for all their chips, people can open up and talk. I really enjoy myself more when it's just not nine nerds at the table. It was probably one of the most fun tournaments I've ever played.

PokerNews: You just got moved to another table. Are you familiar with the other players? Have you been able to size them up?

Hensel: I've never played with any of the players at this table except Superman. Maybe I can get some of those super powers. I've only seen five hands, and there were three all-ins. One guy gave it away, but the other two were legitimate hands.

PokerNews: What's your plan for the day?

Hensel: My goal is not to get through the day; my goal is to play every hand the best that I can. If I lose, I lose. And if not, then I'll make it to the end of the day.

PokerNews: Are you happy with the way you're playing?

Hensel:Yeah. Yeah. I'm sure I messed up some stuff, but that's bound to happen. My better poker friends have told me I made some mistakes.

Turner Picks Off Schulz

With over 400,000 in the pot and the board reading {8-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}, Daniel Turner checked from the big blind and Robert Schulz bet 205,000. Turner called and the turn was the {A-Diamonds}. Both players checked and the {4-Spades} fell on the river.

Turner checked once more and Schulz bet 675,000. Turner thought it over for more than a minute and then put forward chips to call.

Schulz tabled {K-Clubs}{Q-Spades} for king high and Turner's {2-Hearts}{2-Clubs} was good.

"Ace-King?! I Don't Believe You!"

Nível 28 : 50,000/100,000, 15,000 ante

Randy Pisane raised to 235,000 from middle position and Cosmin Joldis defended his big blind.

The flop came {k-Spades}{8-Hearts}{4-Clubs} and Joldis checked. Pisane bet 260,000 and Joldis thought for a full minute before check-raising to 680,000. Pisane paused and eventually called.

The turn was the {q-Hearts}. Joldis thought for a moment and led out for 840,000. Pisane hesitated but folded.

"Ace-king," said Pisane. "Ace-king?! I don't believe you!" exclaimed Joldis, smiling as he raked in the pot.
