Anthony Marsico raised to 300,000 in the hijack and Aaron Katz three-bet to 850,000 on the button. It folded back to Marsico and he checked the own stack before making the call.
The A♠8♣5♦ flop was checked by Marsico and Katz bet the pot to force a snap-fold from Marsico, who was shown the A♦ by Katz.
Bogdan Capitan got his 775,000 stack in against Isaac Haxton preflop and was at risk.
Bogdan Capitan: A♥K♦K♣3♦
Isaac Haxton: 10♦9♠9♣6♣
Capitan was ahead with his kings, but Haxton flopped a set on A♠9♦5♠. The 10♥ turn gave Haxton a full house and the 7♥ river saw Capitan sail away in 21st place.
Jonas Kronwitter raised to 350,000 on the button as Robert Cowen, who had less behind, got up to look around at the stacks on the other tables before calling for his last 165,000. Big blind Eelis Parssinen also called.
The flop came J♣K♠A♥ and Kronwitter's bet of 200,000 got rid of Parssinen, leaving him heads-up against Cowen.
Robert Cowen: A♣A♦8♥4♠
Jonas Kronwitter: A♠5♦3♥3♠
Cowen had flopped top set to take a big lead in the hand as the 5♠ turn gave Kronwitter the nut flush draw. He completed the flush on the 10♠ river and the defending champion was sent to the rail in 20th place thanks to that bad beat.
Following a raise by Tyler Smith and a call by Aaron Katz, both players invested 300,000 on the Q♥7♦3♥ flop with Smith leading and Katz calling. Smith then bet the 6♦ turn for 800,000 and Katz announced all-in. Before the exact count was done, Smith made the call and the biggest pot of the tournament so far unfolded.
Aaron Katz: K♥K♦Q♦6♣
Tyler Smith: A♥Q♣J♥5♣
Katz was ahead with two pair and a diamond flush draw while Smith had top pair with one live overcard and the nut heart flush draw. When the 8♥ came on the river, Katz started counting his stack for a double before he realised the horror. By winning that large pot, Smith further increased his lead while Katz was ousted in 19th place.
Isaac Haxton and Kabeelan Rajamurthy had reached a heads-up flop of 2♥5♦2♦. Haxton was sitting in the big blind and led out for 250,000 chips. Rajumurthy then jammed all in for 860,000.
"I don't have a super great hand, but," Haxton began while putting in some calling chips to put the Malaysian at risk.
Kabeelan Rajamurthy: A♣7♠5♣5♠
Isaac Haxton: 9♠9♣4♣3♠
"I have some outs," he continued after seeing Rajamurthy's hand. However, the nines remained absent on the K♣J♣ runout, and Rajamurthy booked a nice double-up while his opponent complimented his hand.
Matthew Wantman won three pots right before dinner break thanks to big bets that forced out his opponent.
In the first, five players went to the 9♠6♦6♣ flop and checked to Wantman on the button who bet 280,000. Jesse Lonis raised to 625,000 in the small blind and the rest of the table got out of the way, but Wantman stuck around with a call.
Lonis slowed down and checked the 3♠ turn and Wantman took the pot with a bet of 550,000.
Kabeelan Rajamurthy then raised to 400,000 from under the gun before Wantman potted to 1,050,000. Rajamurthy called to see the Q♦4♥3♣ flop, where he check-folded to a bet of 1,700,000.
Finally, Wantman took some more off Lonis after he limped in from under the gun, then called when Lonis made it 450,000. Both players checked to the river on a board of 6♣7♣3♥J♠2♠ and Lonis quickly surrendered when Wantman bet 660,000.
Eelis Pärssinen raised to 350,000 in the cutoff and Ky Nguyen called all-in for 275,000 out of the small blind in the last hand before the dinner break.
Ky Nguyen: Q♦J♠9♦5♥
Eelis Pärssinen: K♣K♦5♠2♥
The A♠7♠7♦ flop left Nguyen on the ropes and he was drawing dead on the 4♥ turn. Pärssinen ended up with a wheel on the 3♦ river and Nguyen headed to the payout desk to collect $103,093.
The action was caught on a flop of 6♣6♠3♣. Chip leader Tyler Smith was in the big blind and check-called a 250,000 bet from Anton Morgenstern in the hijack. The 10♣ turn then went check-check before the 3♥ river arrived.
Smith now bet out 900,000, and sent Morgenstern into the tank. While the players around them left for their dinner break, Morgenstern eventually put in the calling chips.
Smith showed K♣Q♣J♣8♣ for a total of seven clubs, of which five counted towards his flush. Morgenstern had nothing better and mucked his cards, leaving himself with three big blinds to play with after dinner.
