Smith Bombs the River on Obst

Heads-up on a flop of A♠8♥5♦, Tyler Smith bet 200,000 from the small blind and James Obst called on the button.

The turn came the 4♥ and Smith led out for another 500,000. Obst again called and the 10♣ fell on the river.

Smith now announced pot, pushing forward a bet of 1,725,000 that easily covered Obst's remaining stack. Obst spent more than a minute in the tank and burned through his time bank card before he called for his last chips.

Smith turned over Q♠10♥7♥6♦ for the nut straight and Obst went to muck as he made his exit. The dealer retrieved his cards and exposed A♥Q♥7♦5♠ long after Obst had already left the table.

After a raise and a call preflop, there was a flop of K♦Q♦2♠ dealt in a pot between Danny Hannawa and [Removed:422]. All of the chips went in the middle and it was Soyirgaz that was at risk.

Soyirgaz had flopped middle set while Hannawa was hoping that his flush or straight draw would come in.

The 5♥ turn brought some more outs for Hannawa with a wheel draw, and the 9♦ confirmed Soyirgaz's status as the bubble boy. With the nut flush, Hannawa eliminated Soyirgaz in 31st place and he was the last player to leave without any cash.

All 30 remaining players will now take home at least $82,474 as play continues on Day 2.

Fans Welcome to Attend Tomorrow's Celebration of Life for Doyle Brunson

Fans are welcome to come to celebrate the life of the late poker legend Doyle Brunson at Horseshoe Las Vegas on July 2 at 11:30 a.m.

Many high-profile poker players will speak at the memorial, which will take place inside the Jubilee Theater near the Horseshoe poker room, about a two-minute walk from the World Series of Poker (WSOP) tournament area.

Brunson, a 10-time WSOP bracelet winner and 1988 Poker Hall of Fame inductee, passed away last month at 89. He left behind quite a legacy in poker and will forever be remembered as one of the all-time greats.

Some former Brunson opponents and long-time friends such Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, and Dewey Tomko will speak at the event. Jack Binion, former owner of Binion's Horseshoe, the original site of the WSOP, will also give a speech.

Soverel First Casualty in the Money

Jesse Lonis had raised preflop and Sam Soverel was the only opponent remaining on the button on a A♥10♦2♠ flop, on which Lonis asked for the size of the pot and bet 475,000. Soverel called and the 5♦ fell on the turn.

Lonis now bet the full pot for 1,650,000 and Soverel had 1,795,000 behind. After investing two time banks, Soverel moved all-in and Lonis called with both players verbally announcing their hands already before flipping them over.

Lonis was ahead with the top two pair while Soverel had inferior two pair with a wheel draw and the nut flush draw. The 7♣ river was a blank and Soverel became the first casualty in the money.

Morgenstern Dodges Everything to Double

"I should've just called. I could've jammed the flop," Schwartz lamented.

Marsico Takes Out Two on Consecutive Hands
