Ryynanen Doubles Through Glaser

After Benny Glaser raised on the button, Sampo Ryynanen three-bet out of the small blind. Glaser called and each player drew two.

Ryynanen then led out with a bet that Glaser called and now each player only needed one card.

Ryynanen moved his last 65,000 chips into the middle which got another call from Glaser to put the Finn at risk.

Glaser faced a pat from Ryynanen and decided to draw one.

Ryynanen fanned his 9x7x6x3x2x, while Glaser showed 9x6x3x2x/Xx. The start of day chip leader needed a five or four to eliminate Ryynanen, but instead drew a Qx, sending a double-up to him instead.

The players drew one each and Johansson check-called a bet from Martini.

The players drew one each again and then checked to the final draw where they still needed a card each.

Johansson checked a final time and then quickly called a bet from Martini, who showed him 8x7x6x4x2x for a winner to take a sizeable pot and continue moving up the leaderboard.

In a recent hand, Julien Martini raised on the button and was called by Johansson in the small blind. Benny Glaser made it three bets from the big blind and both players called.

On the second draw, Johansson drew two and both Glaser and Martini drew one. It was checked to Martini, who bet. Johansson then check-raised and Glaser got out of the way. Martini called.

Scotty Nguyen Recovering From Surgery, Will Miss First Half of WSOP

Five-time bracelet winner and 1998 Main Event Champion Scotty Nguyen will miss the first half of the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) as the Vietnamese-American poker icon recovers from surgery.

Nguyen, always a fan-favorite of WSOP, took to Twitter earlier this week to announce he was undergoing surgery for slipping rib syndrome, a condition that can cause severe chest pain in addition to "a slipping, clicking, or popping sensation in the lower chest," according to an article published in Psychopharmacology Bulletin.

But it's not all over, baby. Nguyen tweeted today to let his fans know that the surgery was a success and that he hopes to recover in time for the second half of the WSOP.

“I want to let you guys know the surgery (recovery) is going so well," Nguyen said in a video. "Right now, on both sides (it) is sore and swollen and I have trouble to get in and out of bed. But I have my wife, Julie, she (is) right there to help me sitting up or standing up.”
“I love all of you, baby. See you in the second half at the World Series in Vegas.”
