Day 2 Completes with Seidel, Becker and Velador Near the Top of the Chip Counts

Nível 17 : Limits 15,000/30,000, 0 ante
Erik Seidel

Day 2 of Event #25: Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship has wrapped from Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas, and after seven 90-minute levels of play, the field of 128 (102 returning players, plus 26 late registrants) was whittled down to just 21 contenders.

The event saw a record field of 212 entries, which created a prize pool of $1,971,600. A cool $492,795 is up top for the eventual winner as well as the WSOP gold bracelet.

The big story on Day 2 was that the bubble had burst with the top 32 players making the money. Michael Chow was the unfortunate player to leave empty-handed after his exit ensured that the remaining players would be guaranteed a payday of at least $16,386.

Jay Kerbel ended the day with the chip lead as one of only four players above the million chip mark, while Jose Luis Velador and Erik Seidel round out the top three stacks.

The likes of Damjan Radanov, Christopher Stephan and poker legend Sam Farha are on the other end of the spectrum and will begin Day 3 in need of a few double ups.

Late registration was open until the start of play today, and 26 players opted to hop into the mix. Brian Rast, Koray Aldemir and Poker Hall of Famers Phil Hellmuth and Todd Brunson were just some of the players who took advantage of the generous late registration time.

However, Hellmuth, Brunson, Rast, and Aldemir would only make cameo appearances, while Aaron Kupin, another Day 2 entrant, managed to grind his way into the money, eventually finishing the day tenth in chips.

After the bubble burst, Dan Shak, Nacho Barbero, and Corey Hochman found themselves on the wrong end of lady luck and had to settle for a little more than a min-cash. Kyle Ray was the last player to bust on Day 2 after he was unable to fade Bryce Yockey's straight flush and nut low.

The remaining players will return on June 12 at 1:00 p.m. local time to continue their quests for the coveted gold bracelet. Play will pick up at Level 18 with blinds at 10,000/20,000 and level 20,000/40,000. Stay tuned to PokerNews for live updates on all the action.

Kyle Ray Eliminated in 22nd Place ($17,923)

Kyle Ray

Kyle Ray was all-in from the big blind and side action unfolded between Bryce Yockey on the button and James Chen in the small blind. Chen bet the 1085 flop for Yockey to call and the 4 turn brought the very same pattern. On the 2 river, Chen bet once more and Yockey raised to receive a quick call from Chen.

"Nut nut," Yockey announced and tabled the AK63 for the nut low and a six-high straight flush. Chen tossed his cards towards the muck while Ray tabled his A775 briefly, while the dealer retrieved Chen's A854 to conclude the showdown.

Ray bowed out just shy of bagging in 22nd place for $17,923.

Pascal Leyo

Erik Seidel raised from early position and was called by Ben Lamb in middle position. Pascal Leyo was down to his last big blind and tossed it in from late position, creating a side pot between Lamb and Seidel.

The flop rolled out J3K. Lamb raised a bet by Seidel and Seidel called. The 9 fell on the turn and this time Seidel slowed down with a check. Lamb bet and once again Seidel called.

The river brought the 10, completing the J3K910 runout and both players checked.

Pascal Leyo: A432
Erik Seidel: AK82
Ben Lamb: K743

Lamb would take the whole pot with two pair, kings and threes, sending Leyo to the rail in 23rd place.

Dzivielevski Eliminated by Becker

Nível 17 : Limits 15,000/30,000, 0 ante
Yuri Dzivielevski
Yuri Dzivielevski

A cat with many lives on his severe short stack, Yuri Dzivielevski eventually got it in again when facing Johannes Becker as he check-called the 843 flop and then checked the Q turn. Becker bet, and Dzivielevski had two T-25,000 chips behind, which he tossed into the middle.

There was some confusion about whether that was a call for a full bet of 30,000 or an all-in, to which Becker responded "I am fine with either way". Dzivielevski replied, "I want to go all-in," and so he did, creating the following showdown.

Yuri Dzivielevski: K753
Johannes Becker: K852

The A on the river gave Becker the wheel, and Dzivielevski was knocked out in 32nd place.

Chow Chops; Then Busts on the Bubble

Nível 17 : Limits 15,000/30,000, 0 ante
Michael Chow
Michael Chow

Michael Chow was all-in twice and survived the first hand to chip up slightly thanks to a chop while Yuri Dzivielevski was also on the verge of getting eliminated but escaped.

On a flop of J43, the Brazilian was all-in for 65,000 total and looked up by Corey Hochman.

Yuri Dzivielevski: AKQ2
Corey Hochman: AJ102

The K turn propelled Dzivielevski into the lead but the 5 river gave both a wheel for the full chop.

Chow then limped in and the action continued to a three-way flop of Q74 on which Kyle Cartwright checked, as did Craig Chait. Chow bet and received two calls.

Cartwright bet the 10 turn and Chait folded while Chow called all-in for the last 25,000 chips he had behind.

Michael Chow: AJ63
Kyle Cartwright: AK53

Chow was drawing to a low but on very thin ice against the flush of Cartwright. No low came as the 10 river burst the money bubble.

Lamb Chops Chens

Nível 15 : Limits 10,000/20,000, 0 ante
James Chen, James Chen
James Chen, James Chen

James Chen (Taiwan) raised from middle position and was called by James Chen (US) in middle position. Ben Lamb then three-bet from late position and both Chens called.

The flop came 7J10 and Chen (T) lead out. Chen (US) called and Lamb raised. Chen (T) called Lamb's raise and then Chen (US) three-bet, both Lamb and Chen (T) called.

The turn brought the 4 and both Chens checked to Lamb, who laughingly said, "what happened?" Before placing a bet. Both Chens called and the dealer put out the 5 river.

Again both Chens checked to Lamb who bet. Chen (T) called and Chen (US) folded. Lamb tabled A1042 for two pair and a seventy-five low, which would be good enough to scoop.

Wolff Eliminated by Chen

George Wolff

James Chen raised from late position and was called by Ben Lamb on the button and George Wolff on the short stack from the big blind.

The three players saw a flop of K88 and Wolff tossed in his one remaining chip. Chen and Lamb both called.

The turn Q checked through and Chen put out a bet on the 9 river, prompting Lamb to check his cards one more time before folding.

George Wolff: KJ65
James Chen: A1084

Wolff's two pair wouldn't be good enough to beat the trip eights of Chen.

Liebeskind Scooped Twice to Bust

Jake Liebeskind
Jake Liebeskind

With one bet each three ways to the 10544 turn, the action was checked through and the J fell on the river. Ben Lamb bet and Jake Liebeskind called. Lamb tabled his AKK8 for kings up and Liebeskind mucked the AxJx7x2x.

Shortly after on a four-way flop of AQ5, it checked to James Chen (US) and he bet for James Obst, George Wolff and Liebeskind to call. After the 5 turn, Obst and Liebeskind check-called a bet by Chen once more with the latter being all-in for the last few chips.

That led to the K river on which Obst checked. Chen bet once more and the Aussie reluctantly folded.

Chen tabled his QQJ9 for queens full of fives and the A10107 of Liebeskind was no good as he hit the rail. Moments later, Mike Matusow lost his last few chips to Zachary Freeman and the field was reduced to the last 36 hopefuls with 32 spots paid.

Kosei Ichinose had previously survived an all-in showdown to chip up by a small margin and then got it in with the AKJ3 against fellow short stack Robert Yass.

The latter revealed the KQ72 and made superior two pair on the K9873 board, as Ichinose's rivered kings and treys were no good.

Ben Lamb raised from early position and was three-bet by Yarron Bendor from the button. Lamb called and the players took a flop heads-up of 822.

Lamb check-called a bet from Bendor and the 6 hit the turn, which would check through.

Lamb lead the 9 river and was called by Bendor.

"I have quads for the high," Lamb said, while tabling A1022. Bendor sent his hand into the muck giving Lamb the scoop and some much-needed life.
