Welcome to the 2022 WSOP Tournament of Champions

2022 WSOP Gold Bracelet
2022 WSOP Gold Bracelet

The 2022 World Series of Poker in its new home at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas is on the home stretch and almost all elusive gold bracelets have already been awarded. However, one new tournament on the schedule remains and that's Event #89 Tournament of Champions.

It is a new addition to the schedule and requires no buy-in while offering a guaranteed prize pool of $1,000,000, replacing the invitation-only Global Casino Championship. The exclusive tournament awards no points towards the 2022 Player of the Year race due to the same restrictive nature and is open to winners of ring events from the 2021/2022 WSOP Circuit season as well as bracelet winners from the 2022 WSOP.

This not only includes the events at the new location on the Strip in Las Vegas but also the various competitions held online on the WSOP.com and GGPoker platforms. In total, nearly 600 players have qualified for this $1 Million Freeroll and the vast majority of them are expected to join the action. The list of eligible players can be found on the WSOP website.

Day 1 is set to get underway at 11 a.m. local time in the Bally's Ballroom and there are ten levels of 60 minutes each scheduled with a break every two levels and a 75-minute dinner break after the sixth level of the day at approximately 5.40 p.m. local time.

All participants start with 30,000 in chips and initial blinds of 100/100 and a big blind ante of 100. With the late registration open until Day 2 at the very same starting time the following day, all those still competing for the WSOP gold bracelets in the final events of the 2022 WSOP still have a chance to enter the fray as well.

The three-day tournament will conclude the very successful series in Las Vegas on Wednesday, July 20, and the final day will also be streamed on the PokerGO platform as well. All exclusive live updates from start to finish can be found right here on PokerNews until the final gold bracelet winner of the 2022 WSOP at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas has been crowned.

Ruben Off to a Hot Start

Picking up the action on the {k-Hearts}{9-Spades}{3-Clubs}{j-Spades} turn, Brad Ruben bet 1,100 in the hijack and was called by Christina Gollins in the cutoff. They headed to the {3-Hearts} turn on which Ruben bet another 3,500. Gollins instantly called and then mucked when Ruben tabled the {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs} for nines full of treys.

"Wow, you are running hot," Gollins sighed in table chat to which Ruben replied "the last time I had the nine of diamonds, I didn't keep them".

Zingelmann Among the First Casualties on Day 1

Nível 2 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante
Pedro Bromfman
Pedro Bromfman

In a three-way three-bet pot to the {9-Spades}{6-Clubs}{2-Clubs} flop, Pedro Bromfman checked his option and then called a bet worth 2,700 into a pot of 4,500 while in the blinds. Patrick Schuhl also came along as Paula Zingelmann had continued and the {3-Diamonds} fell on the turn.

Both Bromfman and Schuhl checked and Zingelmann then bet 6,500 to face the check-shove by Bromfman. Schuhl got out of the way and Zingelmann called all-in for around 15,000.

Paula Zingelmann: {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}
Pedro Bromfman: {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}

"What do you have, I can't see it," Zingelmann said from the other side of the table and once Bromfman announced his set of nines, she followed that up with an "I need a king". However, the river was the {3-Clubs} and that only improved Bromfman to nines full of treys, sending Zingelmann to the rail.

Nível 2 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante
Paul Hizer
Paul Hizer

Matthew Mendez opened the action and Paul Hizer then three-bet to 1,600 from one seat over. Anthony Close cold-called in the big blind and Mendez then reraised to 6,700. Hizer eventually called while Close folded.

Heads-up to the {q-Spades}{6-Hearts}{5-Hearts} flop, Mendez continued for 8,700 and Hizer called reluctantly as the {6-Spades} followed on the turn. Mendez then pushed all-in for 33,300, which had the 20,000 of Hizer covered. The Brit tank-called after some two minutes and the cards were revealed.

Paul Hizer: {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}
Matthew Mendez: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}

The {10-Clubs} on the river brought no miracle for Hizer and he was sent to the rail.

Eric Baldwin
Eric Baldwin

Eric Baldwin was all in for around 20,000 against Pedro Bromfman to his right, who had him covered.

Eric Baldwin: {j-Hearts}{j-Spades}
Pedro Bromfman: {q-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}

Baldwin's jacks were pipped by the queens of Bromfman and the queens held up as the board ran out {k-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} to send Baldwin to the rail.

"That's the dream hand! Queens against jacks," said someone at the table.

Nível 4 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante
Aleksejs Ponakovs
Aleksejs Ponakovs

Aleksejs Ponakovs was all smiles after he had just knocked out a short-stacked Derin Goodman. His {j-Spades}{j-Hearts} had been well ahead of the {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds} of Goodman in a preflop contest and there was no miracle escape on a board of {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{3-Spades}, boosting the stack of the High Roller regular and Event #42: $100,000 High Roller No-Limit Hold'em gold bracelet winner further.

Huy Nguyen

Heads-up to the {9-Spades}{8-Clubs}{6-Spades} flop, Huy Nguyen check-raised from 3,000 to 8,000 and was called by Kathy Sawers. Nguyen then bet the {8-Spades} turn for 4,000 to receive a call and bet another 15,000 on the {2-Clubs} river.

Sawers went into a brief tank and then called as Nguyen rolled over the {7-Spades}{5-Spades} for a straight flush. "That's usually good enough to win the pot," David Moses chimed in and Sawers nodded before sending her cards into the muck.
