"The Mover" Transports Chips to His Stack

Nível 8 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

In a large pot of already at least 80,000 two players were on the turn with the board reading {3-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}. The first player to act, who was in the small blind, bet 27,000. Steven Fricks called to swell the pot to over 130,000.

The river was the {k-Diamonds} putting four diamonds on the board. This slowed the action as both players checked. The small blind showed the {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs} and Fricks showed the {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} for a small flush that was good enough to take down the hefty pot.

"They call me The Mover" said Fricks as he hauled in the chips. Certainly an appropriate name for him in this particular hand as his stack is now over 200,000

Phan vs Avila Round 2

Nível 8 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
John Phan
John Phan

Another big pot was developing between John Phan and Carlos Avila. The flop read {3-Spades}{4-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}. Phan checked over to Avila who was on the button. Avila put in a bet of 5,500 which was called by Phan.

The turn was the {j-Spades}. Phan checked again and Avila put out a bet of 8,000. Phan thought for a while, methodically leaned down to take a sip from the straw in his drink a few times, then raised to 20,000. Avila paused for a moment before making the call.

The river was the {6-Spades}, completing any possible flush draws. Phan took a few more drinks from his straw and stared down Avila for about a minute before checking to which Avila quickly checked back.

Phan announced "ace" and showed the {a-Hearts}{8-Clubs} which was just barely good enough to pip Avila's weaker ace with the {a-Clubs}{5-Clubs}.

The brewing interesting matchup between the two has so far gone round 1 to Avila and round 2 to Phan.

Rios Wields the Button

Nível 8 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Michael Rios
Michael Rios

One of the dominating stacks of the Bronze area in the Brasilia Room belongs to Michael Rios aka Diamond Mike. Back in Level 3 he’d amassed over 120,000 chips, and he’s now hovering around 200,000. He demonstrated one way to build a stack, picking up four and a half big blinds’ worth of chips at the close of the last level (600/1,200). After two players limped in (one mid-position, one on the cut-off), he promptly made it 4,600 from the button. There was little delay in the other players’ cards hitting the muck.

Weisner Quickly Busts a Player

Nível 9 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Just joining the Big 50 field after the break was Melanie Weisner. From the button she raised to 5,000 and received one caller from the small blind.

The flop was the {6-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}. Both players checked.

The turn was the {a-Clubs}. The small blind checked to Weisner who bet 8,000 and she was met with a call.

The river came the {7-Spades}. The small blind checked again and Wesiner put in a large bet of 35,000, which was enough to put her opponent all in. After a few moments of deliberation, he made the call and saw the bad news.

Wesiner turned over the {a-Hearts}{j-Spades} which bested her opponents {a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} to bust him and to immediately give Wesiner a very nice boost to her stack.

Elsewhere in the Brazilian Room, Maria Ho joined the field.

Smith Doubles from One Chip to 100,000

Nível 9 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Melissa Smith
Melissa Smith

Strictly speaking, the one chip in Melissa Smith’s possession was a newly-introduced white 50,000 chip, and she tossed it in under the gun announcing her raise as 6,000. Her neighbour (utg+1) promptly raised to 16,000 and was called. The heads up flop came down {q-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{9-Clubs}. Smith checked and her neighbour bet 15,000. She check-raised all in and received a quick call – and no wonder: Utg+1 had flopped top pair top kicker with {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs} while Smith tabled {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}. The turn and the river bricked and suddenly the neighbours’ stacks were reversed.

Harrell Flops a Ten to Crack Aces

Nível 9 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Lemarc Harrell found himself in deep trouble in a pre-flop all in situation, holding the {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs} up against his opponent's {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}.

But it was not in the cards for Harrell's Big 50 to be done quite yet when he spiked a 10 on the flop as it came {3-Spades}{9-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}. The set would hold on when the turn was the {q-Hearts} and the river the {j-Spades} All his opponent could do was shake his head and count out the 97,500 that he owned Harrell.

Matakis Plays a Short Stack, Kolev Flops a Set

Nível 9 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Boris Kolev
Boris Kolev

Back at Melissa Smith’s table, Ian Matakis is maneuvering a 32,000 short stack around while his neighbors play some hefty pots. He got one shove through just before the previously reported hand, then opened the hand afterwards to 4,500. Boris Kolev, another late position opponent and big blind Smith made the call.

On the {a-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{10-Spades} flop, Smith and Matakis checked and Kolev bet 12,500, called only by the late position player. The turn brought a second ace – {a-Clubs}. Kolev led for 18,000, called fast by his last remaining opponent. The river was the {4-Diamonds}. Now Kolev paused for a moment, motionlessly contemplating his 52,000 remaining chips before throwing them in. His opponent snap-called, showing down {a-Spades}{2-Clubs} while Kolev collected his double up with a full house having flopped a set of nines ({9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}).
