Overbet Shove Pays Big Dividends For Frei

Nível 9 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Aaron Frei
Aaron Frei

With 45,000 in the pot and a {k-Clubs}{10-Spades}{6-Spades}{7-Clubs} board on the felt, WSOPC ring winner Aaron Frei shoved for 135,000 in the small blind, putting his lone opponent in the hijack, who had 120,000 behind, deep into the tank.

"Might be just throwing away a huge stack here," the cutoff said, looking at Frei.

After a few minutes, the cutoff gathered up all his chips and started shuffling them between his hands, saying, "Oh boy."

A clock was called shortly after, and with around five seconds left, the cutoff slammed his stack in the pot.

Opponent: {j-Spades}{7-Spades}
Aaron Frei: {k-Spades}{q-Spades}

Frei's bigger flush draw and top pair had his opponent looking for a jack or seven to survive, but the {2-Spades} river gave both players a flush, with Frei's king-high flush sending his opponent to the rail.

Utley Surges Past 600k With Latest Bustout

Nível 10 : 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante

Three players saw a {5-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{2-Hearts} flop together, and John Utley, who has been wielding a big stack for much of the day, bet 6,000 from the small blind. Both of his opponents called.

The {3-Clubs} fell on the turn, and Utley bet 12,000. The big blind folded, and the button, who had just 7,000 left, tanked for a minute before reluctantly committing his chips.

Opponent: {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}
Utley: {j-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}

Utley had turned a straight, and the {a-Hearts} river kept his six-high straight ahead of his opponent's wheel, felting him.

Deeb Spotted with a Deep Stack in the Bowling Alley Overflow Room

Nível 10 : 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Shaun Deeb in an earlier event at the 2019 WSOP
Shaun Deeb in an earlier event at the 2019 WSOP

2018 WSOP Player of the Year Shaun Deeb has built up a 290,000 stack in the deepest reaches of the Rio, sitting at the center table of the former Lucky Strike Lanes. This room has been converted into an overflow room for the WSOP and is still at full capacity as Day 1c goes on at The Big 50.

"You found us in here!" exclaimed Deeb, who said he started playing at 1:30 p.m. and has been in the overflow room the entire day.

The converted bowling alley, as well as a group of tables situated in front of Guy Fieri's El Burro Borracho restaurant, are still filled to the brink in this record-setting tournament.

Hellmuth In, Hellmuth Out

Nível 10 : 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

15-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth was seen pushing his chair in while making a quick exit from the tournament area, just after firing two bullets in Event #5: 50th Annual High Roller - $50,000 No-Limit Hold'em. A player at the table was kind enough to share how Hellmuth's demise came about.

A player raised to 5,000 from early position, and John Lyons called next to act. The cutoff three-bet to 13,000, and Hellmuth, who had approximately 27,000 to start the hand, called in the small blind, as did the original raiser and Lyons.

The {a-}{10-}{8-} flop contained two spades, and everyone checked through to the turn, which was another spade. Lyons bet 27,000, the cutoff called, and Hellmuth called off his last 14,000.

The river was another spade, and Lyons checked. The cutoff checked back, and Lyons showed {k-Spades}{9-Spades} for the nut flush. Hellmuth tabled {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}, and was left raising his hands in the air in frustration before silently leaving the table.

Playan Keeps Playing After Binking the River

Nível 10 : 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante

Carlos Playan got his last 62,500 in from middle position, and was at risk and in trouble against the big blind.

Carlos Playan: {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts}
Opponent: {a-}{a-}

Playan's queens got no help on the {7-Hearts}{3-Spades}{6-Hearts} flop or {6-Spades} turn, but the entire table gasped after the {q-Spades} fell on the river, delivering a two-outer for Playan and taking most of the chips of his opponent.

Sitting Down and Doubling Up

Nível 10 : 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante

A player identifying herself as Anastasia M. sat down at a table two seats to the right of Matt Stout, and on her very first hand at the new table got right into the mix.

Stout opened to 6000 from early position and got two callers before the action came around to Anastasia M., who jammed for her 32,000-chip stack on the big blind. Stout folded, a player in middle position called, and the small blind folded.

Anastasia M. showed {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}, a nice hand to pick up for your first pot at a new table. The middle position player showed {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades}, and the board came out {q-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} as the newcomer doubled up in quick fashion.

Zolotow on the Rise

Nível 10 : 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante

Steve Zolotow is casually talking up the other players at his table in the Brasilia Room, while continuing to add to an impressive Day1c stack.

Zolotow barely broke his conversational stride as he scooped his latest pot, his {a-Spades}{5-Spades} being the wining hand on a board of {8-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{a-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}. The longtime poker player now has 200,000 chips.
