Piqué Hits Crossbar; Down to 20K

Nível 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

On a board of {4-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} and facing a bet of 2,800, FC Barcelona centre-back Gerard Piqué cut out a raise amounting to 13,000. Piqué's opponent went into the tank for several minutes before making the call.

"Just fives" announce Piqué as he sheepishly rolled over his {5-Hearts}{5-Spades}.

His opponent tabled his {K-Clubs}{K-Hearts} and scooped the pot to send Piqué down to 20,975 in chips.

Engel Can't Call

Nível 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

We found Ari Engel under the gun and facing a wager of 7,500 from the player on the button in a large pot for the early levels. The community cards had come {8-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{5-Hearts}, and Engel had calling chips in his hand. He looked like he was going to toss them in a couple of times but stopped himself, shaking his head and smiling.

"Can't do it," he said. "Are you going to show me a bluff if I fold the best hand?"

His opponent sat silently, motionless. Engel mucked his hand.

"Show the bluff," Engel said.

"Show the bluff!" Jonathan Duhamel chimed in.

"Show one," someone suggested.

At that, the player turned over the {a-Clubs}.

"Well, we knew you had that one," someone said with a laugh. "It's the other one we're curious about."

Good Start for the 2007 WSOP Main Event Champ

Nível 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Back in 2007, Jerry Yang defeated a field of 6,358 to win the World Series of Poker Main Event for $8,250,000. Yang, who lives in California and splits his time between charitable poker endeavors and running his restaurant, has returned to the WSOP every year since then, and for this year's Main Event he's opted to give it a go here on Day 1c.

In a recent hand, Yang raised to 300 from the hijack and the player on the button opted to play with the former champ. The blinds both folded, and it was heads-up action to the {10-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{5-Spades} flop. Yang continued for 350, and his opponent wasted little time in raising to 1,100. Yang quickly folded and that was the end of that.

Nothing too special, but despite losing that hand Yang is off to a good start on Day 1c. He must have won a big one early as he's currently sitting on a healthy stack of 43,000.

Liebert Loses Out

Nível 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

On a flop reading {4-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{2-Spades}, the small blind led for 500 only to see the player in the big blind raise to 1,200. Kathy Liebert was next to act from the button, and she put in a raise of her own, setting the price to play at 2,200. The small blind folded, but the big blind stuck around with a call.

Despite the action on the flop that would be the last of the betting as both players checked down the {6-Clubs} turn and {3-Spades} river. The big blind then took the pot after showing his {4-Hearts}{2-Hearts} for a flopped two pair.

Rough Start For the Truth

Pierce from the 2012 WSOP Main Event
Pierce from the 2012 WSOP Main Event

Paul Pierce, a Boston Celtics legend, Brooklyn Nets player, and future NBA Hall of Fame member, was recently spotted in the Amazon Room. We followed Pierce around to his seat and almost immediately saw him get caught up in a huge hand.

We arrived to see Pierce in the small blind calling after the big blind had raised to 1,000, then the flop came {J-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{Q-Hearts}. Pierce check-called another bet of 1,000, and on the turn the {10-Clubs} hit.

Pierce checked again and the big blind bet another 1,000. Swiftly Pierce check-raised to 4,000 and the big blind called right away. On the river the {5-Diamonds} completed the board and casually Pierce flicked out a bet of 10,000.

The big blind called and Pierce tabled {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} for three of a kind queens and a busted straight flush draw. But the big blind tabled {A-Spades}{K-Hearts} for a Broadway straight and Pierce, obviously disappointed with the loss of this big pot, complimented his opponent for his strong hand.

Ivey Slipping

Nível 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Facing a raise to 250, Phil Ivey made the call from the big blind and check-called 350 when the flop landed {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{5-Hearts}. The {Q-Diamonds} turn was checked through, then the {J-Diamonds} completed the board.

On the river Ivey check-called a bet of 725, but folded at the sight of his opponent's {J-Clubs}{9-Spades}. Ivey is now down to a little over 22,000 in chips.
