Earlier this afternoon Chino Rheem was attempting to book a $500 last longer bet with Shawn Sheikhan. If he managed to do so, he could be $500 lighter as his tournament has come to an abrupt end and his quest for a WSOP bracelet over for the time being.
Online superstar Griffin "Flush_Entity" Benger is no longer competing for Event #4's bracelet after busting from the tournament on the last hand before the antes.
Gavin Smith opened the betting with a raise to 450 from under the gun, a raise that folded out the active players one-by-one until the action was on Olivier Busquet on the button.
Busquet peeked at his cards then moved all-in for 3,150 in total. The blinds ducked out of the way, but Smith shrugged his shoulders and called.
Smith:
Busquet:
Smith looked on course for a timely double-up, but the flipped the hand on its head and put the ball firmly in Busquet's court. The left Smith drawing dead and he was already out of his seat when the completed the board.
As Smith left the table, the waiter arrived with a tray of drink. Smith darted back to his to collect his beverage, and Busquet gave the waiter a couple of dollars to pay for it.
"Well that was worth it," said Smith as he headed out of the tournament area sipping on his free cocktail.
Sorel Mizzi recently completed a potentially life-threatening prop bet when swam from Ipanema Beach in Brazil to an island 5km off the coast!
During his challenge he had to worry about vicious tides, strong currents and potentially sharks. Thankfully, Mizzi came through relatively unscathed from his battle with nature, which is more than we can say for his battle in Event #4's shark-infested waters.
The seat where Mizzi once sat is now filled with a new player and Mizzi is nowhere to be seen. Perhaps he's headed tot he pool to swim a couple of thousand lengths?
Tim Reilly cashed in this very event at the 2013 World Series of Poker, finishing in 258th place for a $2,107 score. If he is to repeat that feat this year he is going to have to grind his way back up the leader board as he lost 7,000 of his 11,000 stack to what he calls a "sick cooler."
There are only 20 minutes remaining of Level 6 and that means would-be players have 20 minute left to buy in. Anyone buying in now would receive 15 big blinds for their $1,000, which is hardly deepstacked but still workable.
Athanasios Polychronopoulos recently finished second in the $10,000 WSOP National Championship, narrowly missing out on his second bracelet as a result. He's looking to make amends for that close call here in Las Vegas and is doing his chances of glory no harm so far.
We saw Polychronopoulos' staring down his opponent as he waited for the big blind to act on a flop. The player in the big blind checked, prompting a 450 bet from Polychronopoulos, who then went back to staring. Whether it was his intense gaze or the lack of a playable hand from the big blind is unknown, but the big blind folded and Polychronopoulos boosted his stack to almost 9,000 chips.
Elsewhere, Russell Crane, Marvin Rettenmaier and Jimmy Fricke all have more chips than what they started with, Fricke in particular finding himself with an above average stack.
