"I Paid $10,000 to Play a Poker Tournament, I Want to Talk"

Nível 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Haralabos Voulgaris
Haralabos Voulgaris

According to Haralabos Voulgaris, he cold four-bet out of the blinds after two players had raised ahead of him. One of the players called off all in, and the three-bettor was contemplating his move. Voulgaris commented that the player was going to get to see his hand regardless of his decision, and one of the other players apparently asked for the floor to be called because he didn't think Voulgaris should be talking about his hand with players still in the pot.

We didn't see or hear what the supervisor had to say, but we did hear the aftermath.

"I paid $10,000 to play a poker tournament, I want to talk," Voulgaris said loudly, eliciting chuckles from players at nearby tables. "If I can't talk, you can just take my chips and I'll go home."

Voulgaris is still sitting behind his big stack at Table 2, so it seems he's been allowed to talk.

Ivey Takes One Out

Nível 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Phil Ivey
Phil Ivey

The action folded around to Phil Ivey in the hijack, who opened to 2,000. His opponent on the button raised it up to 5,000, as both blinds got out of the way. With the option back on Ivey, he bumped it up to 13,000. His opponent paused for a moment, looked down at his cards, before moving all in. Ivey snap called, and the cards were shown.

Ivey: {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}
Opponent: {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}

The board ran out {10-Hearts}{3-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{9-Spades} to see Ivey hold with his aces, as he eliminated a player from the tournament.

Mizrachi Coolers Deppe, Takes Chip Lead

Nível 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Michael Mizrachi
Michael Mizrachi

Wow.

We just caught the tail end of one of the biggest pots we've seen all tournament. We only walked up to the table on the river, but another tablemate was kind enough to walk us through the flop and turn action.

Mizrachi was in a battle of the blinds with Robert Deppe on a flop of {5-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}. Mizrachi check-called a bet of 20,500, and the turn was the {7-Spades}. Mizrachi check-called another big bet of 33,300, and the {j-Hearts} came on the river, which is where we walked in.

Mizrachi slid out a massive bet of 120,000, a bet that has many of the field still left covered. Deppe went deep, deep into the tank, and at one point said "Did you hear what I have?" Mizrachi said no, and Deppe said "I have top set."

Mizrachi didn't seem to react as Deppe continued to shake his head and shuffle his chips. Deppe said "I can't fold this," and eventually, he slid in the call. Mizrachi immedaitely showed {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} for a flopped flush draw that hit a broadway straight on the river, and Deppe did indeed turn over {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades} for top set.

The whole table was left dumbfounded, both at the giant pot and the fact that Deppe almost folded. That is little consolation to him though, as he is down to 21,000, while Mizrachi is our new overwhelming chip leader with 553,000.

Dinner Break Time; Mizrachi Wins Monster to Lead

Nível 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Michael Mizrachi
Michael Mizrachi

The remaining players are now heading on a 90-minute dinner break. Play will re-commence at approximately 8:25 p.m. local Las Vegas time.

The final level before dinner break began with several notables improving on their chip stacks as Marvin Rettenmaier, Michael Mizrachi, Ari Engel, Rachid Ben Cherif and Matt Marafioti. However recent bracelet winner Matt Perrins headed to dinner early alongside Danny Wong and FC Barcelona and Spain centreback Gerard Piqué. Piqué shoved a flop with {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts} but was called by James Alexander's set of eights, and when the board paired on the turn, Piqué was drawing dead.

The story of the level would be the late arrival of Joe Serock following an accident on his moped, but soon after would hit the rail.

As the level came to a close 2005 World Champion Joe Hachem, two-time bracelet winner Vanessa Selbst, Owais Ahmed, Randy Lew, Brian Lemke and JC Alvarado all found themselves on the rail as the likes of Phil Ivey, Jamie Gold and Jean-Robert Bellande began climbing up the leader board. However as the last few hands were being dealt for level eight, it would be Dirk van Luijk soaring to the top after flopping trips and improving to a full house.

Three-time WSOP bracelet winner and past November Niner in Mizrachi would have something to say about van Luijk being on top as he won a massive pot in the final few minutes that saw him surge to over 550,000 in chips. Mizrachi held {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} on a {Q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} flop against Robert Deppe. Mizrachi then called a bet when the {7-Spades} landed on the turn before he led for 120,000 when the river landed the {J-Hearts}. Deppe eventually found a call tabling his {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}, and with Mizrachi rivering Broadway, he would take a monster lead to dinner.

As players enjoy a feast of fine-dining or fast food, take a few minutes to watch our very own Lynn Gilmartin interview Sam Trickett about the next stop on his poker journey following his recent elimination.

Ebony Kenney Doubles, Then Leaves

Nível 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Ebony Kenney
Ebony Kenney

Ebony Kenney doubled up through Angel Guillen on one of the first hands back from break with {7-Clubs}{7-Spades} against his {A-Clubs}{2-Clubs}. The two got it all in before the flop, and Kenney got a major sweat when the flop came down {4-Clubs}{2-Spades}{9-Clubs}. Fortunately for her the turn was the {J-Hearts} and the river was the {3-Spades}, allowing her to double up to just about 20,000 in chips.

On the very next hand, Guillen opened for a second time to 2,200 from under the gun. Kenney reraised to a total of 14,000. Action folded around to the player in the big blind who moved all in for over 80,000 chips. Guillen tanked for a bit before folding.

"Well, I know you have aces or kings but I can't fold now," Kenney said before tossing her last few chips into the pot.

Kenney: {J-Clubs}{J-Spades}
Big Blind: {K-Spades}{K-Clubs}

The board ran out {6-Clubs}{3-Spades}{5-Spades}{7-Clubs}{10-Clubs} not giving Kenney any of the help that she needed and she was eliminated from the tournament.

Bounahra Eliminated As Tryba Wins Three-Way Clash

Nível 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Amal Bounahra (Day 1c)
Amal Bounahra (Day 1c)

Amal Bounahra, daughter of former November Niner Bob Bounahra and girlfriend of Antonio Esfandiari, has just been eliminated in a three-way clash.

On the {K-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{5-Hearts} flop, Bounahra, Chris Tryba and one other player got all the money in. Tryba held bottom set with the {5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}. Bounahra held the {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} for a flush draw and Broadway straight draw. The third player in the hand had the {K-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} for top two pair.

The turn brought the {Q-Spades} and the river the {4-Diamonds}. Both of those cards kept Tryba's set of fives in the lead, and he won the pot. Tryba had more chips than both of his opponents and sent them to the rail.

Tryba now has nearly 200,000 in chips.

Sleeping on the Couch

Nível 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Laura Green, Scott Born
Laura Green, Scott Born

With the ESPN film crew storming over to a table, we decided to follow suit to see what the commotion was about.

One player had moved all in and Laura Green had made the call before her husband Scott Born called all in from the blinds.

Green: {7-}{7-}
Born: {Q-Clubs}{J-Spades}
Opponent: {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}

WIth Green having the best hand, she would eventually run last on the {6-Spades}{3-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{A-Hearts} board as her husband Born spike a runner-runner Broadway straight to stay alive with just a little above starting stack.

Green however maybe sending her Mr to the couch tonight as she took a hit to drop to 42,000 in chips.

Gold Gone; Liang Wins Cooler

Nível 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Jamie Gold
Jamie Gold

Following a preflop raise, a call from the button and one from Gregory Liang in the small blind, Jamie Gold three-bet an additional 10,000 from the big. The original raiser folded and the button called before Liang made a four-bet to an additional 15,000.

Following some confusion between the exact amounts, Gold smooth-called, as did the button to see a {J-Clubs}{J-Spades}{10-Diamonds} flop. The action was checked round to see the {Q-Hearts} land on the turn and Liang move all in for over 50,000.

"I don't think I can fold!" announced Gold as he stood up.

"Holy s**t!" Holy s**t!" Gold added as he continued to deliberate.

"No way I can fold this hand!" finally stated Gold as he slid in his final 40,000 as the button player - who had been texting on his phone for the duration of the hand - open-folded {A-}{K-}.

Gold: {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}
Liang: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}

"F**k me!" screamed Gold repeatedly as he knew he was drawing dead.

The river landed the {A-Spades} and Gold continued to shake his head in disbelief before saying good luck to the remaining players before he left the tournament area.

Break Time; Mizrachi Still Leads, Gold Gone in Cooler

Nível 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Michael Mizrachi
Michael Mizrachi

The penultimate level of the night is over and the remaining Day 2c players are heading on a 20-minute break.

Level nine began a little slower then usual with players adjusting back into the swing of things following a long dinner break. Ebony Kenney and Amal Bounahra led the casualties while Jason Mercier, Eric Baldwin, Joseph Cheong and Pieter de Korver were also found on the rail.

However it would be husband and wife combo Laura Green and Scott Born that may have some words to exchange to each other as Born managed to double through Green and another player to stay alive when he rivered Broadway.

Just as the final few hands were about to be dealt, Jamie Gold was involved in a cooler hand when he turned a straight with {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds} only to run into a turned full house by Gregory Liang. Gold let off a series of profanities before making his way to the rail to leave the Main Event short of another previous Champion.

The same tale of chip leaders would hold true throughout the level, and although both Michael Mizrachi and Mark Kroon would relinquish some chips, they both would sit up top with Mizrachi having around 440,000 and Kroon sitting with 400,000.
