2013 WSOP Event 60 Gold Bracelet Winner Loni Harwood
2013 WSOP Event 60 Gold Bracelet Winner Loni Harwood

Just last week, Dana Castaneda became the first woman not named Vanessa Selbst to win an open event at the WSOP since 2007. Well it appears that Castaneda started a trend, as WSOP Circuit Grinder Loni Harwood has just won another bracelet for the ladies, taking down Event #60 $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em. Along with adding her first bracelet to the two Circuit rings she already owns, Harwood will take home $609,017.

At the start of the day, there were 15 players, and in less than a level, the final table was determined. The action started immediately when Yongjun Lu and Ryan Julius were eliminated on the same hand when Hiren Patel busted both with his ace-king. From there, Jason Reynolds busted in 13th, Ashwin Sarin in 12th, Maksim Tyurin in 11th, and Cormac Ohiggins.
It took over an hour to lose our first player, and it was the aforementioned Patel. He lost most of his chips in a hand where his flopped top pair and flush draw couldn’t beat the pocket aces of Harwood, and he was eliminated shortly after by Yongshuo Zheng.

Another forty minutes went by before Bijon Notash went out in 8th, and then there was the hand of the final table. Harwood got the rest of her chips in preflop holding {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}, but she was in dire straits against the {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} of Yngve Steen. Harwood managed to flop a broadway draw when the flop came {Q-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}. The turn bricked, but she caught the four outer on the river, as the {10-Spades} came. Harwood scored a massive double up to take the chip lead, and she never looked back.

Harwood eliminated Cy Williams five minutes later when her queens held against his tens, getting us to six handed play. It took over 90 minutes before Daniel Cascado’s pocket sixes couldn’t win a race against Harwood’s ace-jack, and he took home just over $100,000 for his efforts.

Not long after, a short stacked Asi Moshe shoved with {k-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}, and he was in rough shape versus the {9-Spades}{9-Hearts} of Zheng. He was never able to catch up, and Moshe was the fifth place finisher. Steen shoved several times with his short stack, before finally getting caught by Harwood. Steen held king-seven, and he was in rough shape against Harwood’s king-queen. A queen on the flop all but ended things, and Steen was knocked out fourth place.

Mika Paasonen looked to be in prime position to get to heads-up play when he got it all in with {k-Spades}{k-Hearts} against the {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} of Zheng, but an ace on the flop changed the tide. Paasonen was not able to catch up, and he busted shortly after at the hands of Harwood.

Heads up play lasted for just under two hours, with Harwood never giving up the chip lead. Zheng managed to get a double up, but the bracelet was destined for Harwood. On the final hand, Zheng rivered a broadway straight, but that card also gave Harwood a winning full house, giving her the title.

A huge congratulations to Loni Harwood, who becomes the third WSOP Circuit grinder to win a bracelet in Las Vegas this summer, and the fourth of the whole summer if you count Jonathan Hilton winning the National Championship in New Orleans in May. Not only that, but Harwood jumps up to 3rd in the WSOP POY race, as this was her third final table of the series. We hope you enjoyed all the coverage from the Rio today. Congratulations again to Harwood, and so long from Las Vegas!

Yongshuo Zheng Eliminated in 2nd Place ($378,607)

Yongshuo Zheng
Yongshuo Zheng

Action began with Yongshuo Zheng who raised to 215,000. Harwood opted to call from the big blind.

The flop came down {J-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{8-Spades} and Harwood checked to Zheng who fired 250,000. Harwood just called.

The turn came down the {J-Hearts} and this time, both players checked. On the {10-Spades} river, Harwood decided to lead out with a big bet of 600,000. After a few seconds of thinking Zheng announced that he was all in and Harwood snap called.

Zheng had rivered the nut straight with {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}, but he was second best. Harwood had also hit the river in a big way, by making a full house with her {J-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}. With that, Zheng was eliminated in second place, while Harwood was crowned the champion of Event #60: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em.

-On the button, Yongshuo Zheng raised to 165,000. Loni Harwood called him from the big blind. The flop came down {K-Spades}{7-Hearts}{8-Hearts} and on the flop Harwood checked to Zheng who placed out a bet of 180,000. Harwood decided to put in a reraise to 500,000. From there, Zheng jammed all in and after a few seconds Harwood called.

Zheng: {K-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}
Harwood: {10-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}

Harwood was behind but she had a straight draw that she could complete with any jack or six. Unfortunately for her the turn was the {2-Clubs} and the river was the {10-Clubs}, giving her a pair that was good against Zheng's pair of kind.

-Harwood gave Zheng a walk in the big blind.

-Harwood called a raise of 190,000 from Zheng and the two took to a flop. On the {J-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} flop Harwood checked to Zheng who fired 200,000. Harwood called.

The turn was the {9-Clubs} and both players checked to see the {10-Diamonds} on the river. On the river, Harwood put out a big bet of 550,000. Zheng folded after some though and Harwood took down the pot.

-Paasonen raised to 125,000 and collected the blinds and antes when everyone folded.

-Zheng opened with a raise to 130,000. Action folded to Paasonen in the big blind and from there he reraised to 285,000. With action back on Zheng, he tanked for about a minute before pushing all his chips forward. Paasonen called immediately.

Zheng: {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}
Paasonen: {K-Spades}{K-Hearts}

"I'm going to use my one time," Zheng said before the flop came out. And it worked out for him when the flop came down {A-Clubs}{7-Spades}{9-Spades}, giving him the lead with a pair of aces. The turn was the {9-Spades} though and that gave Paasonen's a flush draw. The turn was so scary in fact that Zheng put his head in his backpack before the river came out. The river was the {9-Clubs} though, pairing the board and allowing Zheng to get a double up through Paasonen.

-Zheng got a walk in the big blind and showed {A-}{Q-} as he raked in the pot.

- Loni Harwood raised to 135,000 in the small blind, and Mika Paasonen defended his big blind. The flop came down {4-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}, and a bet of 125,000 from Harwood go the job done.

- Yongshuo Zheng got a walk in the big blind.

- Paasonen raised to 125,000 from the button, and Yngve Steen moved all in from the big blind. Paasonen quickly folded.

- Action folded around to Steen in the small blind, and he moved all in. Harwood peaked down at her cards, and quickly announced call.

Steen: {k-Hearts}{7-Hearts}
Harwood: {k-Spades}{q-Diamonds}

Harwood was in great shape to win another all in confrontation, and the hand was all but over when the dealer put out a flop of {q-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}. Steen would need runner runner to survive, but the {5-Spades} on the turn ended it. The meaningless river was the {5-Hearts}, and Steen bowed out in fourth, while Harwood now owns 75% of the chips in play.

Asi Moshe Eliminated in 5th Place ($141,124)

Asi Moshe

After two very crucial hands Asi Moshe is no longer a part of this tournament.

-In the first hand Moshe opened with a raise to 125,000. Action folded to Yongshuo Zheng who moved all in from the big blind for 670,000. After thinking about it for a big, Moshe nodded his head and announced a call, leading to a showdown.

Moshe: {K-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}
Zheng: {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}

The board ran out {A-Hearts}{3-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} allowing Zheng to double up and leaving Moshe with less than 1,000,000 chips.

-On the very next hand, Moshe open shoved from under the gun. Two seats over, Mika Paasonen reraised all in with a covering stack. Moshe was all in for 955,000.

Moshe: {A-Clubs}{7-Hearts}
Paasonen: {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}

The flop came down {10-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{j-Spades} giving Moshe no help. He didn't get any help on the {6-Diamonds} turn either. The {3-Hearts} river was not the card that Moshe was looking for and he was eliminated from the tournament while Paasonen picked up some much needed chips. With that only four players remained.

- Asi Moshe raised to 125,000 in the small blind, and Loni Harwood rerasied to 265,000 in the big blind. Moshe made the call, and the flop came down {6-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}, and Moshe check called a bet of 180,000 from Harwood. The {6-Diamonds} hit the turn, and Moshe checked again. Harwood fired out 280,000 this time, and Moshe thought it over for about 30 seconds before kicking his hand in.

- Mika Paasonen got a walk in the big blind.

- Moshe raised to 100,000 in the cutoff, and he took down the blinds and antes.

- Daniel Cascado shoved all in for his last 760,000 from under the gun, and two spots over, Harwood announced the call. Everyone else folded, and the cards were tabled.

Cascado: {6-Spades}{6-Hearts}
Harwood: {a-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}

Harwood's rail started calling for a jack-ball, and while that didn't come on the flop, an ace did, {k-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{q-Spades}. The {10-Diamonds} on the turn meant that Cascado could only catch a jack to split the pot, but he didn't get it, as the {7-Hearts} completed the board.

Cascado followed up a second place showing in a $1,500 event three weeks ago with this sixth place finish for over $100,000, while Harwood is in cruise control with 6.8 million.

Loni Harwood Doubles Back Into the Chip Lead

After a raise from 85,000 from Yngve Steen, Loni Harwood put in a reraise to 175,000. Action folded back around to Steen who popped it up with a raise to 395,000. With action back on Harwood, she tanked for a bit before announcing that she was all in. Steen quickly called and the hands were tabled.

Steen: {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}
Harwood: {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}

"Ten jack flop!" Harwood's rail cheered for her, realizing that she was in a deep hole and would need some help to catch up. She received a bit of that help when the board came down {Q-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}, giving her a gutshot straight draw to broadway. The turn was the {5-Clubs} which was no help to Harwood, but her rail erupted upon seeing the {10-Spades} on the river that allowed her to double up into the chip lead. Steen was left as one of the shorter stacks in the field after that beat.
