Schulman Doubles Through Buchanan

Nível 8

Pot-Limit Omaha

On the {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{5-Spades} flop, Shawn Buchanan and Richard Ashby checked to Nick Schulman. Schulman bet 8,800, and Buchanan raised to 26,000. After Ashby folded, Schulman was all in for 72,000. Buchanan called.

Buchanan held the {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{3-Spades} for a set of queens. Schulman had the {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{2-Spades} for a set of aces.

The turn was the {4-Diamonds} to give Buchanan an open-ended straight draw, and the river completed the board with the {8-Diamonds}. Schulman's aces held, and Buchanan sent over the chips to double him up.

"Trying to Get Out of My Misery"

Nível 8
Mike Sexton
Mike Sexton

Omaha-8

Poker Hall of Famer Mike Sexton raised to 6,000 from middle position only to have David Chiu three-bet to 9,000 from the hijack. The rest of the players folded, Sexton called and it was heads-up action to the {5-Spades}{3-Hearts}{3-Clubs} flop. Sexton proceeded to check-call a bet and then did the same on the {a-Spades} turn and {2-Clubs} river, though he was visibly hesitant to do so on the latter cards.

Chiu then tabled the {a-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{k-Diamonds} for a full house and a live six, and Sexton showed the {6-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{a-Clubs}{k-Spades} for the same low. With that, Sexton was quartered.

In the very next hand, Lamar Wilkinson opened for 6,000 under the gun and Sexton immediately three-bet to 9,000. "Trying to get out of my misery," he explained.

Allen Bari then called from the hijack, Wilkinson put in the additional 3,000 and three players saw a flop of {3-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{q-Clubs}. Wilkinson checked, Sexton bet 3,000 and both Bari and Wilkinson called. When the {J-Hearts} turned, Wilkinson led out for 6,000 and Sexton raised all in for 9,300 total. Bari called, as did Wilkinson and the {5-Diamonds} completed the board on the river.

Wilkinson checked and then folded when Bari bet 6,000. "Nut low," Bari said and tabled the {2-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{a-Clubs}{8-Spades}. Sexton then showed the {3-Spades}{j-Spades}{a-Spades}{a-Diamonds} for two pair and the high.

"I'm glad to get half of it," Sexton said.

Meanwhile, it appears Sebastian Ruthenberg has been eliminated from the tournament.

Kostritsyn Scoops

Nível 8

Omaha-8

With the board showing {2-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}, Phil Ivey sat in thought for a moment before calling from the blinds a late-position bet from Alexander Kostritsyn. The river then brought the {3-Diamonds}. Ivey bet this time, and after thinking just a moment Kostritsyn called.

Ivey turned over {Q-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{3-Spades} for trip treys (high) and an 8-7-4-3-2 (low). But Kostritsyn had trip treys as well with a better kicker with {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{7-Spades}{3-Hearts}, and his 8-7-3-2-A was better as well, earning the Russian the scoop.

After starting the day with a short stack and battling for nearly three levels, Ivey again finds himself down to just a little over four big bets in the limit games.

Puchkov & Shakerchi KO'd

Nível 8

Pot-Limit Omaha

We happened upon the action with around 22,000 in the pot and a board reading {3-Spades}{5-Hearts}{5-Clubs}. We're not sure of the flop action, but we do know Konstantin Puchkov was all in from the big blind and up against both Cary Katz and Justin Bonomo, who were in the small blind and button respectively.

Both active players checked the {5-Spades} turn and {2-Diamonds} river, prompting Katz to table the {a-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{2-Spades}{9-Spades} for fives full of deuces. Bonomo mucked and then Puchkov showed the {6-Spades}{k-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{10-Clubs} before taking his leave from the tournament.

Meanwhile, Talal Shakerchi has been eliminated from the tournament.

Razz

Phil Ivey started the Day 2 of Event #55: The $50,000 Poker Players' Championship with a short stack of 31,800, and on the very first hand lost nearly all of it in a razz hand in which he started with {A-}{2-}{3-} and could not win.

The nine-time bracelet winner persevered, however, battling through nearly three levels this afternoon. But after losing an Omaha-8 hand to Alexander Kostritsyn found himself back down to less than the stack with which he'd started the day.

Soon after the game turned to razz, and as Day 2 began with an unfortunate razz hand for Ivey, so, too, did it end that way after Erick Lindgren took the last of his chips.

Full House for Friedman

Nível 8

No-Limit Hold'em

The last hand before dinner saw Adam Friedman and Scott Clements lingering to finish a hand of no-limit hold'em, with the board showing {J-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{7-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{8-Spades}, about 15,000 sitting in the middle, and Friedman having made a bet of a little less than 12,000.

Clements thought about the situation for a while as players exited from the nearby tables, then finally called. Friedman tabled {8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} for a runner-runner full house, and Clements showed that his {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} had been outdrawn before departing.

That hand nudges Friedman up over 400,000.
