More For The Counts

Nível 3 : 50/100, 0 ante

We caught Maridu Mayrinck on the break. She gave us an update on her stack here in Event #54. Also, our video team interviewed Matt Stout and gave us an update on his chip count. Ari Engel is also on the field, and he's working with about double what he started with. Jonathan Aguiar has also joined the tournament and he's just a bit under starting stack coming here into level 3.

Ramdin In For A Quick Double

Nível 3 : 50/100, 0 ante

When we walked by Victor Ramdin's table he was faced with a decision for his tournament world early here on Day 1.

Ramdin called the all in from his opponent who had a covering stack and turned up his {J-Hearts}{J-Spades}.

"Alright," Ramdin said. "Let's see what he has."

His opponent turned up {K-Clubs}{q-Clubs} and it was off to the races.

The flop came down {A-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{2-Clubs} which was safe for Ramdin at the moment, but his opponent did pick up two more jacks as outs. The turn {5-Spades} remained safe for Ramdin, as did the {8-Clubs} though, and with that Ramdin notched himself a double up.

"I couldn't let her down," Ramdin said about the masseuse who had just began giving him a back massage.

With that, Ramdin is off to a hot start here early in the day.

All the Single Ladies

Allyn Jaffrey Shulman (Seen Here Competing in the Recent Ladies Championship) is Just One of the Hundred or So Women in the Field Here Today

Whether due to the recent WSOP Ladies Championship, or perhaps Beyonce's sold-out concert last night here in Las Vegas, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of women among the field.

The typical WSOP open event attracts a small percentage of females to the felt, but today there seems to be a women at every other table.

One of the more well accoutered women we've spotted so far was Allyn Jaffrey Shulman, who has been seen sporting the flashy gold bracelet she won last year at the Senior's Championship.

Although Jaffrey Shulman was a bit low on chips when we passed by her table, she was smiling and talking with her tablemates, and with her experience she stands a good chance of rebounding from the early losses.

Just Pure Air

Nível 3 : 50/100, 0 ante

Action started on Matt Salsberg who opened to 225 from middle position. He received two callers before the player in the big blind made it 1,200.

Salsberg tanked for a bit, counted his chips, then eventually settled on folding his hand. The other two players folded as well, and the big blind player collected the pot.

"That was a big fold," Salsberg said to the player after the hand.

"Glad to see I'm getting a little respect," he replied.

"We were probably flipping," Salsberg continued, to which the player shook his head. "Did you have a big pair?" The player shook his head again. "Yeah well if you had ace king we were flipping because I had a big pair." Again the big blind player shook his head.

"Did you have a small pair?" Salsberg asked, continuing his interrogation. The player shook his head again. "Ok then just pure air," to which the player in the big blind laughed.

Looks like Salsberg isn't getting much in the way of the information, but he's still got a good sized stack here on Day 1.

Eu Sou Brasileiro

Nível 3 : 50/100, 0 ante

With today's Confederation Cup championship pitting Brazil and Spain against one another for one of fútbol's most coveted championships, there are a number of players in the field today who have made their allegiance clear.

Several Brazil jerseys have been spotted amid the masses of hoodie-clad poker players, and necks are craning after every fold to take a look at the match on the television screens sprinkled around the aptly named Brasilia Room.

One player who doesn't have to move a muscle while watching his beloved A Seleção take to the pitch is Odemilson Moura, who came to the tournament today ready for Brazil to earn its latest world title.

Moura is running good already, as his seat is directly facing one of the large TV's in the Red section. Rather than distract himself from the task at hand trying to catch glimpses of his national team in action, Moura can simply fold and look up to follow the strikes and saves.

With Brazil taking a 1-0 lead just three minutes into the match, it appears Moura will have plenty to cheer about here today, regardless of what happens with his chip stack.

Scholl and Sands Square Off

Nível 3 : 50/100, 0 ante
Benjamin Scholl at an earlier 2013 WSOP final table.
Benjamin Scholl at an earlier 2013 WSOP final table.

Now seated together in the Brasilia room are bracelet winner Benjamin Scholl and the now wife of David 'Doc' Sands, Erika Sands.

Scholl took down his bracelet last year in a $5,000 limit hold'em event where he took down $206,760. He followed up that impressive performance with a deep run in Event #29: $5,000 H.O.R.S.E. this year where he finished second to Tom Schneider earning him a total of $197,228. He looks to follow up those two runs with a good run here today in Event #54 which would be his second cash in a no-limit event here at the World Series of Poker. His first was in a $1,500 no-limit event in 2009 where he finished 4th for $150,132.

Sands also has some impressive results under her belt, but mostly under the maiden name, Erika Moutinho. Her crowning jewel would be her amazingly deep run in the Main Event two years ago, where she last just one spot more than now her husband 'Doc' Sands. For her 29th place finish, Sands locked up $242,636.

The two just entered but we're sure to see some exciting high level poker between the two players so we'll keep updating.
