This Ain't His First Rodeo

Nível 14 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
T. J. Cloutier Brought His Game Face to Day 2
T. J. Cloutier Brought His Game Face to Day 2

After winning a recent hand with {4-Spades}{4-Hearts} by flopping a set, T.J. Cloutier was a bit confused regarding Steve Bartlett's actions.

Apparently, Cloutier had bet his hand on the river, and Bartlett tossed out a single chip to signify a call.

Cloutier rolled over his winner, and went to claim the rest of Bartlett's short stack, thinking the single chip had actually represented an all-in declaration.

After being told that Bartlett had only called, Cloutier gently chided his much younger opponent in a tone typically reserved for perturbed grandfathers.

"I'm sorry son, in my day when they tossed one chip in after a bet it meant all in," drawled Cloutier. "I've played a poker tournament or two in my day, and that's always how it was."

Despite not claiming Bartlett's whole stack, Cloutier added to his own with the win, and he is quietly approaching a remarkable third cash in just his fourth WSOP event of the summer.

Randy Lew Has Sung His Last Song

Nível 13 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Randy Lew Has Been Eliminated Here on Day 2
Randy Lew Has Been Eliminated Here on Day 2

We saw a preflop raising war erupt between Randy "nanonoko" Lew and Steve Sung, with both players eventually getting their chips into the middle.

The action began when Sung opened for 1,600, and Lew responded with a three-bet to 3,300. Sung then moved all in for his last 60,000 or so, which put Lew to the test for his tournament life.

Lew tanked for at least three minutes before ultimately making the call, shrugging as he turned over the {A-Clubs}{J-Hearts}. Sung revealed the {9-Clubs}{9-Spades} and the two were off to the races, but the board ran out {k-Spades}{6-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{3-Clubs}, leaving Lew with no pair and no chips.

We saw Micah Raskin abruptly stand and stride away from the tournament area, signalling that he had just been eliminated.

Sure enough, Justin "Boosted J" Smith was stacking enormous towers of chips net to Raskin's vacant spot at the table, and with his recent win, Smith has eclipsed the 200,000 chip plateau.

Inside Basebal(dy)

Nível 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Eric Baldwin on Day 2
Eric Baldwin on Day 2

Eric "basebaldy" Baldwin just scored a key double up, crippling Charles Combes in the process.

The action began when Combes opened to 2,400 before the flop, raising Baldwin's big blind from the button. Baldwin decided to take a flop, and the dealer fanned the {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{7-Spades} across the felt.

Baldwin tapped the table and Combes continued his line with a bet of 3,400, to which Baldwin responded with a reraise, making it 8,200 to play. Undeterred, Combes three-bet to 15,800, staring across the table as Baldwindd the same.

Eventually, Baldwin grabed his remaining chips and hoisted them into the middle, moving all in for his last 57,800. Combes snap-called, but he was dismayed to find Baldwin had flopped a set with his {7-Spades}{7-Hearts}. Although he still had four outs to a full house with his {K-Hearts}{q-Spades}, Combes couldn't find any paint on the turn ({5-Diamonds}) or river ({9-Diamonds}), and just like that the majority of stack was shipped to Baldwin.

Lindgren Lands a Knockout Blow

Nível 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Erick Lindgren is Looking Good Here on Day 2
Erick Lindgren is Looking Good Here on Day 2

We saw Erick Lindgren with a focused expression on his face, and with the board showing {j-Hearts}{6-Spades}{k-Clubs}{3-Hearts}, he had checked the action to an unknown opponent.

The player responded with a bet of 4,800, but Lindgren upped the ante with a reraise to 13,500. His opponent did not appear to like this development, but with only 40,000 left behind he likely felt committed to the pot, and his calling chips eventually made their way into the pot.

On the {A-Clubs} river, Lindgren jammed all in to put his opponent at risk, and after a minute of pondering the player made a crying call. His cards were mucked, however, when he saw Lindgren's {K-Spades}{J-Spades} for a flopped two pair.

Lindgren knocked another player out of contention, while moving his chip count to around double the current average.

Smith Trending Upward

Nível 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Dan Smith (from Day 1)
Dan Smith (from Day 1)

Dan Smith has had a productive start to Day 2, adding considerably to his stack during Level 11, then picking up a few more here at the start of Level 12.

Just now Smith enjoyed another bump up in a hand that saw him open from the hijack seat, get a caller in Dan O'Brien from a set over, then a short-stacked player push all in for about 25,000. Smith reraised all in to force out O'Brien, then turned over {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} to his opponent's {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}.

The board rolled out {K-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}, and Smith is now challenging for the chip lead.
