Salsberg Peaks; Hanks Peaces

Nível 13 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Matt Salsberg
Matt Salsberg

Matt Salsberg was first to act, and he open-shoved for 16,700. Brent Hanks re-shoved for 20,500 in the cutoff, and the rest of the players folded.

Salsberg: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}
Hanks: {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

Salsberg held as the board came {k-Spades}{6-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{4-Spades}{10-Diamonds}, doubling to 34,000 chips. After the hand, Salsberg said that it is his peak for the tournament.

Meanwhile, Hanks was short, and was all in a few hands later with {6-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}. He was dominated by an opponent's {7-Hearts}{7-Spades}, and the sevens held as the board rolled out {8-Spades}{2-Spades}{2-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{4-Hearts}.

Rocco Can Wait All F***in' Day

Nível 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Brandon Cantu (Event #9)
Brandon Cantu (Event #9)

Michael Rocco and Brandon Cantu were heads up on a board of {q-Clubs}{3-Spades}{6-Hearts}{a-Spades}{6-Clubs}. There was around 30,000 in the middle, and both players checked.

"King-high," Cantu announced, as he was first to table his cards.

Rocco didn't budge.

"King-high," Cantu echoed.

"Table your hand," Rocco told him.

This angered Cantu, who held his cards up but wouldn't table them.

"Come on," Daniel Negreanu piped up. "It's the rules, Brandon."

"I'll wait all f***in' day," Rocco told Cantu, who finally showed {k-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for king-high.

Rocco showed {a-Diamonds}{8-Spades} for a pair of aces, and scooped the pot.

Negreanu tried to tell Cantu that some of the online players don't follow the etiquette of showdowns, but Cantu was sure that Rocco had some sort of vendetta.

"He wants to embarrass me," Cantu said. "He's stomping all over my mound."

The latter was a baseball reference we believe, and at this point a floorperson had arrived.

"Let's not insult one another," he told the table, trying to calm everyone down.

Erick Lindgren looked at him deadpan. "F*** Daniel Negreanu."

Most of the table laughed, while Rocco and Cantu still seemed to be steaming a bit from their little confrontation. We'll see if the two butt heads again as we near the bubble and heads-up play.

Ausmus Doing Work for Waxman

Nível 11 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Jeremy Ausmus
Jeremy Ausmus

Matt Waxman, winner of Event #7: $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em, is among the 14 captains in Daniel Negreanu's $25,000 Fantasy League, and thanks to David Chiu's win in Event #23: $2,500 Seven Card Stud, his team is just a few points out of first place.

One of the members of his team is Jeremy Ausmus, who has been crushing today.

"Looks like OCrowe is chipping up," Waxman said to his table a few moments ago, referring to Canadian Owen Crowe. "So he can give them all to Ausmus."

The table laughed.

A few moments, later, at Ausmus' table, the Octo-Niner and Crowe were heads up on a flop of {q-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{5-Hearts}. Ausmus fired out 8,000, Crowe called, and the turn brought a repeat five - the {5-Spades}. Ausmus bet another 16,000, Crowe called, and the {9-Clubs} completed the board.

Ausmus moved all in for effectively 57,000 or so, and Crowe tanked for quite some time before calling. Ausmus showed {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs} for kings and fives, and Crowe mucked his hand before exiting.

Back at Waxman's table, Matt Salsberg smacked the 2013 bracelet winner on the shoulder, to show him that his proclamation came true.

A few hands later, Ausmus added to his stack. He three-bet to 5,200 on the button after Sean Jazayeri opened to 2,200 in the cutoff. Jazayeri called, and the pair checked on a flop of {10-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{3-Spades}. Jazayeri led out for 4,500 when the {j-Diamonds} turned, Ausmus called, and the {8-Diamonds} completed the board. Jazayeri checked, Ausmus moved all in for effectively 23,000, and Jazayeri folded.

Ausmus now sits with 275,000 chips.

Started From the Bottom, Now We Here

Prahlad Friedman raised to 2,300 from under the gun, Jeremy Ausmus, who started the day with just 15,000 chips, three-bet to 3,600 on the button, and Friedman, who only had 11,300 behind, called.

The flop fell {a-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{3-Diamonds}, Friedman moved all in, and Ausmus quickly called.

Friedman: {9-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}
Ausmus: {j-Diamonds}{j-Spades}

The turn and river came {9-Spades}. {j-Clubs} respectively, and Friedman was eliminated.

The very next hand, while Ausmus was stacking his chips, he raised to 2,000. A player three-bet to 4,500, and the action folded back to Ausmus. The Octo-Niner was tanking while continuing to stack his newfound chips, which annoyed the three-bettor.

"I don't mean to be rude, but you have to stop doing that. It's really inconsiderate," the player told Ausmus.

In response, the cash grinder grabbed a large tower of T1,000 chips, and slid them forward, putting the gentleman all in.

"It's going to be like that?" the player asked, folding.

Ausmus responded with a simple smile.

Austin Busts Sands

Nível 11 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Jeremy Ausmus
Jeremy Ausmus

From the cutoff David Sands opened to 1,700 and Jeremy Ausmus three bet to 5,300 from the small blind. Sands made the four bet to 12,700 and the five bet to 25,600 by Ausmus. Sands pushed all in and Ausmus snap called. We had a big showdown on our hands and Sands immediately didn't look to happy about it. His {A-Spades}{K-Spades} was behind, Ausmus showed {K-Clubs}{K-Hearts}.

The flop was a good one for Sands giving him more outs: {9-Spades}{10-Spades}{8-Diamonds}. The {Q-Clubs} on the turn added the jacks to the possible cards to hit for Sands but the {7-Diamonds} on the river was a total brick and Sands departed. Ausmus, who started the day with just 15,400, now has about 180,000.

From Hero to Zero

Nível 10 : 400/800, 100 ante
Calvin Anderson
Calvin Anderson

Calvin Anderson started the day third in chips, but those are all gone by now. He had just doubled up David Sands with {A-}{K-} against {A-}{10-}. On a flop with a king and ten some chips went in, and after a {10-} on the turn the rest followed. The ace on the river made Sands a full house which left Anderson with just 20,425.

After a raise by David Sands (1,700 under the gun) and call by Jeremy Ausmus (cut off) it was Calvin Anderson pushing all in from the button. Both blinds and Sands folded, but Ausmus made the call with {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}. Anderson showed {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} and didn't improve: {Q-Hearts}{2-Spades}{J-Hearts} | {3-Spades} | {K-Diamonds}. And just like that, Anderson had to leave the tournament area.
