We caught up after the hand was just ending on a completed board. Brian Meinders was scooping a sizable pot and had pocket queens in front of him for a queens-full of treys. He had apparently just busted an opponent after being check-raised all in on the flop. The board left Meinders' opponent second best and he was sent to the rail.
A player opened to 7,500, Jason Mercier three-bet to 16,400, and his opponent called. The flop fell , and Mercier's opponent check-called a 9,700-chip bet.
Both players knuckled when the turned, and the completed the board. Mercier's opponent led for 22,200, and Mercier called.
Marc Wright has recently built a top five chip stack. Minutes ago he eliminated a player when he held . His opponent held offsuit. The flop came with two diamonds.
They got it all in and the turn and river were both diamonds, giving Wright the nut flush.
The board showed and there was already about 50,000 in the middle when Marco Bognanni checked in the cutoff seat, then saw his neighbor on the button bet 31,400. Bognanni paused just a moment, then called.
The river was the . Bognanni quickly checked, and when his opponent promptly set out a column of chips for a bet, Bognanni asked for the bet to be counted. As soon as he learned the total was 87,700, Bognanni carved the calling chips out of his stack, then set them forward.
His opponent then turned over for fives full of tens, and Bognanni nodded in acceptance, mucking his hand as he did.
Daniel Negreanu opened from middle position and found one caller in the player in the big blind.
Both players proceeded to check down on the flop and turn, however, when the landed on the river, Negreanu's opponent led out for 15,500. Negreanu weaved his head back and forth - contemplating his decision. He eventually chucked in a call and his opponent revealed . Negreanu quickly tabled for a better ace-high and scooped the pot.
A raised pot would see Terrence Chan and JC Tran take to a flop, with Chan in the big blind and Tran on the button. Both players checked on the flop and it was on to the turn. This time when Chan checked, Tran would bet 12,600. Chan thought for quite some time, before making the call. On the river, Both players checked and Chan turned over , with the pair of kings enough to swipe the pot from Tran.
With just a couple of hundred eliminations needed until the money bubble, Chan could manage to post his 10th WSOP cash of the summer, which is a tremendous effort.
Following an under-the-gun minimum raise to 6,000 by James Mitchell, it folded all of the way back to Will Failla in the big blind who called. The flop came monotone — — and Failla checked. Mitchell bet 12,000, and Failla called. Both players then checked the turn and river.
Mitchell turned over for jacks and treys, while Failla showed for a lesser two pair.
We caught up with the action to see three players looking down at a board of and over 70,000 chips already in the pot.
The small blind checked and Vanessa Selbst checked as well. The third player fired out a bet of 50,000 and the small blind got out of the way. Action was now on Selbst and she sat riffling chips and staring at the board.
Selbst announced that she was all in and her opponent announced a call at lightning speed, tabling for a flopped set. Selbst tabled for a flush draw and a gutshot. When Selbst saw her opponent's hand, she stood up from the table and grabbed her bag.
"I might be the worst of all time," Selbst said. "Good game guys."
The ESPN camera crews rushed over and every person walking by the rail stopped to see what all of the commotion was about.
"Nice call, man," Selbst said to her opponent while she waited to learn her fate.
Finally, the dealer pounded the table and flipped over the river card.
The .
Selbst's opponent shot up from his seat and walked to his supporters on the rail while Selbst let out a heavy sigh and sat back down in her chair. Selbst's opponent sat back down in time to watch a vast majority of his stack moved across the table toward Selbst. The two-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner is now sitting on a stack of 540,000.
Selbst would immediately take to Twitter to inform her followers of her huge double up:
