Ronaldson Looking to Repeat African Success

We saw Greg Ronaldson, who you may recall won the largest tournament in Africa's history at this year's World Series of Poker Circuit stop at the Emerald Casino, sitting with a big stack of 58,000.

We asked him how he acquired it and he informed us that four players had limped to him at the 100/200 level and he raised to 1,200 from the small blind with {A-}{A-}. He received three callers, all four players checked the {A-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} flop, and the {8-Hearts} appeared on the turn.

Another player had led out for 2,000, another called, and Ronaldson made it 5,000 to go. Both his opponents made the call, and then one of then called Ronaldson's 12,000 bet on the river. The South African's aces full proved enough to win the hand, and he's looking to use his newly-won chips to tackle an even bigger field here in North America.

"They Got Me"

Lex Veldhuis
Lex Veldhuis

Action folded to Lex Veldhuis in the cutoff seat and he raised to 700. His raise was called by both players in the small blind and the big blind to see the flop come down {9-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{2-Hearts}.

On the flop, both blinds checked and Veldhuis bet 1,500. The small blind folded, but the big blind called.

The turn was the {A-Clubs} and the big blind checked. Veldhuis bet 3,200 and his opponent made the call. Then, the {A-Diamonds} paired the board on the river and both players checked.

The big blind tabled the {9-Spades}{6-Clubs} for two pair, aces and nines. Veldhuis mucked, looked at the PokerNews reporter and said, "They got me."

Martinez Gone

Max Martinez raised from under the gun and made it 600 to see a flop. The next player to act made the call, and the player after that raised to 2,000. The table folded around back to Martinez and moved all in for around 7,000. The sandwiched player folded and the three-bettor made the call.

Martinez: {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}
Opponent: {K-Clubs}{k-Hearts}

The board came {7-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{7-Spades}{4-Diamonds} and with that Martinez was eliminated. Martinez never seemed to get it going today, and has been subsequently eliminated.

All Aboard The Chiu-Chiu Train

A middle positioned player made it 700 to go and received calls from David Chiu, the button, and the big blind.

The flop fell {3-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{10-Spades} and there were two checks. David Chiu dipped into his stack and came out with a bet of 1,450. Just like that three hands shot to the muck and Chiu scooped up the pot. This win brings him back on the right track as he is now above starting stack.

Affleck Folds to a Four-Bet

A player opened to 750 from early position, and the action folded to Matt Affleck, who three-bet to 2,050 from the cutoff. The button and blinds released, and the original raiser sat back in his chair. He eventually grabbed an orange T5,000 chip and a yellow T1,000 chip, and tossed them forward, four-betting to 6,750.

Affleck tanked for less than thirty seconds before folding.

History Set to Repeat for Mizrachi?

Back in 2010, Michael Mizrachi won the $50,000 Poker Player's Championship, a feat he repeated this year, winning his second Poker Player's Championship title. After winning the event in 2010, he went on to make the final table of the World Series of Poker Main Event in the same year. Could history be repeating itself? It's only early days, but his 155,000-chip stack is a great start.

We aren't sure how Mizrachi acquired most of those chips, but we did just watch him use relentless aggression to take down two hands in a row. One of those hands saw a middle position player open the pot to 1,000. Mizrachi then three-bet to 2,000 from the cutoff. On the {2-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{4-Hearts} flop, Mizrachi's opponent checked and then called a bet of 5,000 from Mizrachi. The {10-Hearts} turn would see Mizrachi continue his betting, firing out 5,000. His opponent tank-folded and Mizrachi added a few more chips to his monster stack.

He's a Soul Man!

We caught up to the action to see World Series of Poker bracelet winner Fabrice Soulier heads up in a pot with the board reading {3-Spades}{J-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}. Soulier checked to his opponent who bet 1,000. Soulier raised to 2,100 and his opponent called.

Soulier took control of the hand with a bet of 2,700 on the turn when the board paired with the {J-Diamonds}. Another call was made and the {4-Spades} completed the board. Soulier bet 4,300 and his opponent tanked for over a minute.

Eventually a call was announced and Soulier casually tabled {A-Diamonds}{J-Spades} for trip jacks. His opponent mucked and Soulier took down the pot.
