Nível 17 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Jeffrey Trudeau

The second of four starting flights has concluded in the 2023 World Series of Poker Paradise $5,000 Main Event here at the Atlantis Resort & Casino. Day 1b attracted a total of 515 entrants which, along with the 883 entrants of the online flight on GGPoker and 657 entrants from Day 1a brings the total entrants so far for the Main Event to 2,055. That number brings the Main Event more than two-thirds of the way to surpassing the $15,000,000 guaranteed prize pool.

Jeffrey Trudeau bagged the chip lead out of 78 survivors from today’s Day 1b flight, finishing with 942,000 chips worth 94 big blinds by the end of the night. Trudeau has just over $3,000,000 in career tournament earnings to his name since 2006 with a career-best score of $352,200. Trudeau is most closely followed by Eyal Al Revah (889,000), Gary Thompson (840,000) and Mario Mosboeck (825,000). Austrian prodigy Mosboeck won a massive pot with pocket aces to burst the money bubble and surge up the chip counts in one of the final hands of the night.

Phil Hellmuth made a grand entrance midway through the day dressed as Poseidon, God of the sea. Hellmuth was flanked by an entourage of 17 mermaids – one for each of his WSOP gold bracelets. Hellmuth’s run today would come to an end in Level 13 after running into Ori Eshel’s pocket queens.

All players who have survived their respective starting flights can still play either of the remaining two starting flights to try and bag a bigger stack, but only the largest stack will be in play for Day 2. The last two starting flights are expected to bring in a diverse field of pros, recreationals and online qualifiers.

As always, stay tuned to PokerNews as we bring you all the action from this event until a winner is crowned on December 14.

Kim Bubbles; Zurita and Scrogins Survive

Nível 17 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Namhyung Kim
Namhyung Kim

There were three all in and calls across three separate tables.

First, Jose Zurita was all in against Wooram Cho who held the covering stack in a preflop confrontation.

Jose Zurita: QQ
Wooram Cho: A2

Zurita's queens remained ahead on the 2JK86 runout to score a full double up through Cho.

The second all-in unfolded in a battle of two medium stacks between Namhyung Kim and Mario Mosboeck. A substantial pot of more than 400,000 emerged to the J65K turn on which Kim was all-in for 171,000 and Mosboeck called.

Namhyung Kim: 88
Mario Mosboeck: AA

The 7 river ensured at least one seat open and the Day 1b bubble had already burst.

Over on table 13, two players saw a board of AJ5 with roughly 225,000 already in the middle and the scenario was almost identical. Benjamin Scrogins was all in for his last 30,000 against Rui Sousa who covered.

Benjamin Scrogins: 88
Rui Sousa: 99

Scrogins was in dire shape against the bigger pocket pair but the K turn did give him a flush draw for some additional outs. The flush came through on the Q river and he secured a full double up on the stone bubble.

Song Eliminated Just Shy of the Money

Nível 17 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Stephen Song
Stephen Song

Stephen Song raised to 30,000 on the button and Emilien Pitavy called out of the big blind, then nearly grabbed his cards to flip them over before he was warned by other players.

"Yeah don't do it ... actually never mind, just show them," Song joked. The A76 flop came with a min-bet of Pitavy and Song called for the 3,000 he had kept behind.

Stephen Song: KQ
Emilien Pitavy: A9

The Q turn gave Song some hope and he flicked his cards closer to the board. However, the J river was a blank and Song bowed out just shy of the money.

Floor staff then told the dealers to stop after their current hand as they broke a table and verified the open seats. With now confirmed 80 players remaining and 78 set to advance, the tournament will continue in hand-for-hand mode.

Revah Back on Top after Massive Double

Nível 16 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Eyal Revah
Eyal Revah

Garik Tamasian opened to 16,000 from the cutoff and Eyal Revah three-bet to 52,000 from the button. Tamasian four-bet shoved, covering Revah's remaining stack of 363,000 and Revah snap-called to put himself at risk in a pot worth nearly 1,000,000 chips.

Eyal Revah: KK
Garik Tamasian: 99

The K103 flop gave Revah top set leaving Tamasian with only runner outs to either quads or a straight. The 5 turn and 8 river changed nothing and Revah took down a colossal pot while making a serious dent in Tamasian's stack.

Picone Chips Up; Salas Scores a Knockout

Nível 16 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Damian Salas
Damian Salas

Vitor Dzivielevski raised to 16,000 and earned calls from Karen Nazarian as well as Igor Picone out of the blinds. They checked the J85 flop and Nazarian bet the 4 turn for 20,000. Picone raised to 60,000 for Dzivielevski to fold and Nazarian reluctantly folded, too, with around 130,000 behind.

One hand later, Dzivielevski opened to 16,000 and Ori Eshel moved all-in for 122,000 in the very next seat. Damian Salas asked for a count and called, everyone else folded including Dzivielevski who exposed the AJ.

Ori Eshel: JJ
Damian Salas: AK

The K52 flop left Eshel on thin ice. He found no escape on the 2 turn and 10 river to depart.

Nazarian was then eliminated by Jinhoon Lee and Aram Zobian vanished one table over.

Stavila Vanishes; Revah Soars to Massive Stack

Nível 14 : Blinds 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Dan Stavila
Dan Stavila

In a pot of around 60,000 to the 65437 river, Eyal Revah over-bet 90,000 and that sent Dan Stavila into the tank. With a stack of around 360,000 behind, Stavila pondered about his move while Revah kept talking like he had done pretty much the entire day already.

Suddenly, Stavila announced all-in and Revah snapped him off to instantly show his A9 for the ace-high flush.

Stavila grabbed his cards and placed them right on top of the muck before heading out of the tournament area.

He would later tell friends that he called with the K8 for the king-high flush, though that cannot be verified.

Pitavy Scores a Big Double

Nível 14 : Blinds 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Emilien Pitavy
Emilien Pitavy

Jan Strazisar raised to 10,000 and earned one caller thereafter. Emilien Pitavy then three-bet to 47,000 before Strazisar announced a reraise, carefully sorting chips and pushing forward 245,000. One fold later, it was up to Pitavy who announced call and wanted to turn over his cards already.

His table neighbours instantly urged him to wait as he may have more chips behind, which was indeed the case. Once most chips of both players were in the middle, they headed to the KJ2 flop. Pitavy was all-in for another 25,000 and Strazisar called.

Emilien Pitavy: QQ
Jan Strazisar: 1010

The Q turn gave Pitavy a set while Strazisar now gained more outs than he had one street earlier. However, the 4 ruver was a blank and Pitavy scored an enormous double.

Phil Hellmuth, who early today made a grand entrance dressed as Poseidon and surrounded by 17 mermaids, was down to just five big blinds and opened to 11,000 on the button with just 8,000 behind. Ori Eshel three-bet on the button and Hellmuth quickly called off to be at risk.

Phil Hellmuth: KJ
