If you heard the surname Romanello, you'd no doubt think of European Poker Tour and World Poker Tour champion Roberto Romanello. He's one of the UK's most popular players, but he's not the Romanello of focus in today's tournament. That honor belongs to his father, Frank Romanello.
While both Romanello's player the Main Event, Roberto busted fairly early. On the flip side, his father is making a deep run, though he did just lose a massive pot that saw his stack of 250,000 or so get cut down to 60,000.
Roberto, who is watching his father from the rail, explained that his dad started playing for fun in the last few years, due in no small part to his son's success. Roberto, who has a brother that is fond of the game, decided to bring his dad to Galway and put him in the event.
It's getting close to the money, so that decision could very well prove fruitful. In the meantime, Frank made his way over to his son and immediately began talking strategy. When it comes to the game of poker, the Romanellos are nothing but focused.
PokerStars Team Online Pro Dale Philip has a decent stack and he’s not content to sit back and wait for premium hands.
Philip opened Under The Gun for 6,000 and faced a raise to 12,400 from Patrick McCann. Philip checked how much McCann had behind, about 130,000, and four-bet to 28,000. McCann called.
The dealer put out a flop of . Philip lead for 20,000, McCann folded and the pot was pushed to the online pro.
Two hands later Grazziano Pirovano opened for 6,000 and Philip, from the small blind raised to 15,600. It won him the pot.
Philip didn’t have it all his own way though. Pirovano opened again for 6,000 and this time Philip elected to call allowing David Gutierrez Lebron from Spain, in the big blind, to put in the extra relatively cheaply.
The flop was . All three players checked. The turn was and Lebron led for 6,800. Pirovano folded but Philip called with position.
The river was a [4]. Lebron checked, Philip checked. Philip was pretty surprised when Lebron showed the [4c 5] but it was enough to win the pot.
Just back from the break and enjoying a massage, Jake Cody was in the big blind and facing an all-in from Hung Nguyen a PokerStars player from Vietnam. “I guess I have to call.” Cody said, and after a brief pause did so, tabling . Nguyen showed
The board ran out giving Nguyen two pair. Nguyen just covered Cody and he was out.
He was just 12 off the money. That makes four bubbles this week for Cody.
