It was an action-packed Day 1 of the 2020 SCOOP-102-H: $10,300 NLHE [8-Max, High Roller], 1M Gtd at PokerStars.

The event began with eight entrants and ballooned to 118 entrants including 38 re-entries by the time the nearly 5 1/2 hour late registration period ended to create a $1,180,000 prize pool.

Daniel "Oxota" Dvoress virtually bagged an overwhelming chip lead of 8,117,321 for more than double his nearest opponent. Dvoress took the chip lead late in the day before extending it further while bubbling Mikita "fish2013" Badziakouski in 16th place to end Day 1 slightly more than eight hours after the day began.

Closest behind Dvoress was Finland's "osw666" with 3,288,708 in chips. Little is known about this player, along with another player that bagged chips with the "megaliciou$$$" screenname, but they appear to have qualified through a $53 feeder tournament into a $530 satellite into a seat into the High Roller. Now this player is guaranteed at least a $21,566 min-cash with a chance at the $258,639 top prize.

Rounding out the top five are well-known poker pros Michael "Imluckbox" Addamo (2,823,372), Ole "wizowizo" Schemion (2,667,623), and Wiktor "limitless" Malinowski (2,532,664).

Other big names still in the mix on Day 2 are Steve "Mr. Tim Caum" O'Dwyer, Sergi "srxakgirona" Reixach, Fedor "CrownUpGuy" Holz, Pieter "XMorphineX" Aerts, Simon "Igorkarkarof" Ronnow Pedersen, Sylvain "caIcuIer_" Loosli, Adrian "Amadi_017" Mateos, Laurynas "LaurisL91" Levinskas, and Alexander "Alexgirs" Girs.

The 3 things SCOOP winners do well

The great Phil Galfond once said: “The biggest misconception in poker is that poker is its own innate skill, like saying ‘I’m good at dancing’.”

In other words, good players aren’t simply “good at poker”. There isn’t one thing that great poker players all do well.

The truth is that the best poker players possess a vast array of skills and traits which have led them to success. So when family members at the dinner table ask you “what makes a good poker player?” it can be tricky to pin down an answer without listing more than 20 different attributes.

Instead, we’re going to focus on what online tournament winners do well in order to achieve their success in the Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) 2020.

Thankfully, a bunch of SCOOP champs were on hand to help us find out.
