Day 3 Comes to a Close with Max Silver on Top

Nível 18 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante
Max Silver Leads the Field
Max Silver Leads the Field

On Friday, Day 3 of the 2014 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event came to a close with around 76 players remaining from the 1,031 who originally came out to play. At the end of the day, it was Max Silver who bagged up the biggest stack in the room with 1.453 million.

Right on Silver's heels is Roger Teska, who bagged up 1.406 million which is good for second in chips. Interestingly enough, Teska will begin Day 4 with a one round penalty. Toward the end of the night, Teska was seen making lewd gestures at cameras held by the television crew. When Teska remarked that he would just show up late to play tomorrow, tournament staff quickly informed him that his penalty would begin when he arrived.

While Silver will sport the largest stack in the field, other notable players managed to bob and weave their way through the field to survive heading into Day 4. Notable players who made it through Day 3 include Kyle Sorel (1,132,000), Shyam Srinivasan (811,000), Sam Greenwood (768,000), Antoine Saout (668,000), Matt Berkey (607,000), Jennifer Shahade (457,000) Loni Harwood (394,000), Mike McDonald (355,000), Paul Berende (191,000), and Ismael Bojang (99,000).

Also alive and thriving is PokerStars Team Pro Vanessa Selbst. Hot off of her third-place finish for $760,640 in the $100,000 Super High Roller, Selbst is seemingly on fire as she makes yet another deep run in the Main Event. Seated at the feature table for the majority of the day, Selbst made work of her foes and slowly built up to one of the top stacks in the field.

In one notable confrontation, Selbst raised to 8,500 at 2,000/4,000/500. Patricio Rojas called from the hijack and it folded around to David "ODB" Baker in the big blind. He announced an all in three-bet for 119,000 and Selbst wasted little time moving all in over the top. Rojas quickly got out of the way and the hands were turned over.

Selbst: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}
Baker: {8-Clubs}{8-Spades}

The flop came down {3-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{9-Hearts} and kept Selbst's ladies in the lead. Fourth street was the {j-Spades}, which left Baker searching for one of the two remaining eights to stay alive in the tournament. Unfortunately for Baker, it was Selbst who made a set on the river when the {q-Clubs} struck the felt. Baker found elimination and Selbst was able to pad her stack with his chips. The Team Pro finished the day with 911,000 in chips.

Selbst isn't the only member of Team PokerStars still alive, though. Those returning for Day 4 include Marc-Andre Ladouceur (416,000), Angel Guillen (322,000), Marcel Luske (320,000), and Liv Boeree (115,000).

Today saw the field hit the money, as the top 151 players were guaranteed a payday. Many notable faces fell once the money was reached. The likes of Ole Schemion (144th), Antonio Esfandiari (140th), Keven Stammen (120th), 2010 PCA champion John Dibella (106th), Sam Cohen (105th), 2012 World Series of Poker Main Event champion Greg Merson (98th), and Maria Ho (85th) are just a small sample size of those to fall in the money.

Team PokerStars members to fall in the money include Leo Margets (143rd), Jason Mercier (142nd), Caio Pessagno (115th), and George Danzer (109th).

Play will resume at 12 p.m. local time on Saturday where the field will return to the beautiful Atlantis Resort in an attempt to clinch a spot at the final few tables. Be sure to keep your browsers locked here on PokerNews for all of the latest updates from the tournament floor!

More for Selbst

Action folded to Norwegian Yngve Steen, and he opened the action with a raise to 12,000 from the button. In the small blind, Team PokerStars Pro and two-time World Series of Poker gold bracelet winner Vanessa Selbst called. Jennifer Shahade also called, opting to play her hand from the big blind.

On the flop, the dealer produced the {A-Hearts}{5-Spades}{4-Clubs}, and all three players checked to see the {K-Hearts} land on fourth street. After Selbst led for 19,000, Shahade thought, then made the call. Steen took some time to think as well, but he had other things in mind than just calling. Instead, Steen raised to 63,000. Selbst called, and Shahade folded.

The river completed the board with the {7-Hearts}, and Selbst checked. Steen tanked for a little bit, then began counting out blue T5,000 chips. It seemed as though he was going to bet, but then all of a sudden had a change of heart and knuckled the table for a check. Selbst showed the {A-Spades}{10-Clubs} for a pair of aces, and Steen winced as though he knew he missed a spot to possibly fire a bluff. Steen mucked his hand, and Selbst was pushed the pot.

"You're really as good as they say you are, aren't you?" commented Kyle Sorel from across the table.

"I don't know, we don't know what I would've done if he would've bet the river," responded Selbst as she was stacking her chips with a smile.

The Greenwood brothers have been cut down to just two, Max and Sam, after their brother Luc was just eliminated.

Renato Almeida checked the {8-Spades}{5-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} board, and Greenwood fired a bet of 30,000. Almeida called, and the river completed the board with the {6-Spades}. Almeida checked, Greenwood moved all in for 77,500, and Almeida called.

Greenwood tabled the {K-Hearts}{J-Spades} for just king high, and Almeida showed the {8-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} for the winning two pair.

Fedorov: {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}
Merson: {k-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}
Fiumidinisi: {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs}

The board ran out {2-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}, tripling Fedorov to 91,000 chips and eliminating Merson from the tournament.

Max, Sam and Luc Greenwood All Running Deep

Nível 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Sam Greenwood
Sam Greenwood

So far, one of the biggest stories that has developed in the 2014 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event has been the deep run that is being made by the Greenwood brothers, Max, Sam and Luc.

Of the three, Max is the most successful in the live poker realm, but that could all very well change in this event. Max does boast $1,285,477 in career live tournament earnings, while Sam has $390,782 and Luc has $203,048. Sam is currently doing the best in this event, though, with over 800,000 chips in his stack while his two brothers are well below the average stack.

The largest score of Max's career came in 2008 when he won a $1,000 event at the World Series of Poker for a payday of $693,392. Sam's largest score came much more recent and was worth $99,076. He took second in a side event at the European Poker Tour Prague. Luc's largest score actually came in this very event, when he took 21st in 2010 for $75,000.

Combined, the Greenwood trio has combined for $1,879,307. That includes 29 WSOP cashes and three World Poker Tour cashes.

Greenwood Takes Down a Monster Pot

Nível 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Sam Greenwood

Rex Alacron raised to 12,000 from middle position in a pot that would turn into one of the biggest of the tournament so far. Jason Helder called from the small blind and Sam Greenwood called from the big.

The flop brought out {A-Clubs}{J-Spades}{6-Clubs} and both blinds checked to Alacron who bet 36,000. Helder made the call from the small blind and Greenwood went into the tank for a long time before raising it up to 150,000 with about 222,500 left behind.

Alacron moved all in, Helder folded and Greenwood snap-called.

Alacron showed {5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}, and even though people thought he had a set it was the six that complemented the other two cards on the board. Greenwood turned over the {A-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} for top two pair.

The board ran out {4-Hearts}, {J-Diamonds} and Greenwood won an enormous pot. Greenwood had Alacron just covered and the Canadian pro is now one of the chip leaders with 790,000 chips.

"In my head I was really calling for a five," Paul Berende said as he burst out in laughter.

"Me too," Timothy Reilly said, "I was going like 'Five, five, five, five' in my head."

Alacron did not win the pot and Greenwood is now that much more dangerous with a mountain of chips in front of him.
