Tournament Room
Tournament Room

Welcome back to the 2014 PokerStars.it European Poker Tour Sanremo. Today, the Casino Sanremo on the beautiful Italian Riviera will host Day 3 of the Main Event, which originally began with 556 players are created a prize pool of €2,480,872. That will be distributed to the top 79 players, and with just 115 returning to action, it shouldn't take long for the money to be reached.

Of course everyone is hungry for the €476,100 first-place prize, but no one has a better shot at it than Sweden's Lukas Berglund, who went on a tear on Day 2 to finish with 700,600, which is considerably more than the player in second chip position, Brazil's Thiago Crema De Macedo, who bagged up 482,400. Rounding out the top three is Spain's Raul Mestre with 473,300.

While those men begin the day as the biggest stacks, they'll face some stiff competition from others with decent stacks including World Poker Tour Alpha8 commentator Olivier Busquet (392,900); Season 9 PCA champ Dimitar Danchev (299,800), Day 1b chip leader David "MissOracle" Yan (283,100), Canadian Shyam Srinivasan (276,000); and World Series of Poker Bracelet winner Dominik Nitsche (258,300).

Likewise, Michael Tureniec (230,700), Giacomo Fundaro (204,600), Jorma Nuutinen (150,700), Tom Alner (135,700), Roberto Romanello (135,600), Stephen Chidwick (134,900), Nicolas Chouity (86,400), Aku Joentausta (74,400), Paul Berende (71,100), and 2011 WSOP Main Event champ Pius Heinz (102,700).

Finally, expect some top-notch action from the remaining members of Team PokerStars Pro Johnny Lodden (185,000), Mickey Petersen (164,700), Vicky Coren (162,400), Alex Kravchenko (97,500), and Victor Ramdin (56,600).

Action is set to get underway at Noon local time, which is about an hour from now. The PokerNews Live Reporting Team is on hand to capture all the action and eliminations, so stay tuned in throughout the day for all the latest and greatest from the penultimate stop of Season 10 of the European Poker Tour!

Busquet Busts Vlad In Huge Hand

Nível 15 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante
Olivier Busquet
Olivier Busquet

We saw the action on the river, but Jeffrey Hakim later filled us in on what had happened before that.

Darie Vlad opened under the gun and Olivier Busquet was one of three callers. The initial raiser continued on {3-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} with a 10,500 bet. Busquet was the only caller and they went heads up to the turn: {J-Diamonds}. Vlad checked to Busquet who made a bet of 26,000. Vlad now check raised to 58,000 and Busquet called.

The river came the {2-Diamonds} and Vlad announced all in. This clearly wasn't what Busquet liked to see and he started pondering. "I have a very good hand" he said with a big grin on his face. "How much is it?" The dealer started counting and announced it was 126,100. "126? That's a lot" Busquet continued his monologue. "How can I fold?"

Busquet moved his hand forward, still heavily thinking about his decision. You could just feel he wanted to fold, but in the end he didn't; "Call" he said without moving any chips forward.

Vlad looked disappointed, got up from the table and showed his failed bluf with {Q-Clubs}{8-Clubs}. Busquet tabled {K-Clubs}{K-Hearts} and the dealer started pushing a big pile of chips his way.

"It's a very strong play, I fold almost every hand" Busquet said to his Romanian former opponent. Hakim, Frankland and Busquet continued to discuss the hand. Vlad in the meantime was already out the tournament area.

20 Players Remain in the EPT10 Sanremo Skill Last Longer Competition

Nível 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Skrill

The Skrill Last Longer competition has been being held at each stop on this season’s EPT, of which they’re an official sponsor. The promotion is simple – players sign up for the promotion either online (preregistration is available) or at the Skrill booth (which will be present at each stop); don a Skrill patch; and then aim to be the last man or woman standing. The last player remaining will then receive their buy-in back via their Skrill account.

Here in Sanremo, just 20 players remained heading into Day 3. You can see the list of players still in contention by scrolling to the bottom of this post.

While Skrill is upping the ante for Season 10 with a bigger branding initiative, this isn’t their first appearance on the EPT; as a matter of fact, they were a sponsor of Season 8 and have held previous “Last Longer” promotions.

The company’s website provides a bit more information on Skrill, which rebranded from Moneybookers back in 2010:

“Skrill has been moving money digitally since 2001. We offer online payment solutions for businesses and consumers, allowing them to pay and get paid globally. Over 36 million account holders already trust Skrill. Our customers can send and receive money worldwide in 200 countries and 40 currencies, securely and at low cost, without revealing their personal financial details. Your business will benefit from our worldwide payment network with over 100 payment options. Whether through a simple one-step integration or a fully-tailored payment solution. Whoever you are, however you like to pay or get paid, trust Skrill to make your online payments simpler, faster and safer.”

Headquartered in London, Skrill is looking to make their presence known in the poker world with a commitment to customer satisfaction through innovation and service. Not only that, they’re looking to be more than just a company by becoming a trusted and respected member of the poker community.

Korik Doubles Through Chouity

Nível 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Zachary Korik
Zachary Korik

EPT Monte Carlo winner Nicolas Chouity opened with a min raise and he received two callers, amongst them online super star Zachary Korik in the big blind.

Korik checked to Chouity who continued with a 11,500 bet on {Q-Clubs}{9-Spades}{7-Clubs}. The third player involved made the call and action was on Korik. He shoved all in for 69,000 and Chouity made the call. The third player folded and it was time to put the cards on their backs.

Chouity sighed and rolled his eyes as he found out he only had one direct out. Chouity's {J-Hearts}{J-Spades} was out flopped by Korik's {J-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} and the last jack in the deck wouldn't fall on the turn or river. Instead the {A-Clubs} and {7-Hearts} popped up and Chouity had to forfeit a large portion of his stack while the tournament gets closer and closer to the bubble.

Chouity Won't Win His Second Title Today

Nível 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Nicolas Chouity
Nicolas Chouity

Not too long ago Nicolas Chouity had a very comfortable stack and table mate Zachary Korik was short. All things have changed now as Chouity has made his exit and Korik was the one responsible.

Korik, who doubled through Chouity not too long ago, opened to 8,000. Action folded to Chouity who shoved all in. The big blind folded and Korik instantly called before we even knew how much it exactly was.

There was good reason for Korik's quick call. With {A-Spades}{A-Clubs} his decision wasn't too hard. Chouity was in trouble holding {5-Clubs}{5-Hearts} and was desperately looking for a third five or some other hand to stay alive.

Chouity already got up from the table and rightfully so, he wouldn't get lucky this time: {8-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{3-Spades}. Chouity busts in 82nd place, a couple of spots short of the money.

Mark James Bubbles The PokerStars.it EPT Sanremo Main Event

Mitch Johnson from the United Kingdom opened under the gun with a min raise. Action quickly folded to Mark James who was one of the shortest players still in the tournament. James shoved from the button for 30,500 total and both blinds quickly folded. Johnson made the call.

Because of the hand-for-hand play, action was then halted. The tournament organizers ordered the dealer to wait till all hands on the other tables had been finished. After a minute or so it was time to open the cards to see what the situation was.

Mark James: {A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}
Mitch Johnson: {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}

What started out as a fair fight would soon turn sour for James, as Johnson hit his set: {K-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}. James needed runner runner something but was drawing dead on the turn: {4-Hearts}. While the tournament director announced James still had a flush draw, all other players involved knew it was done. The {J-Spades} on the river was a blank and James exited the tournament.

With the departure of Mark James from the UK, the remaining 79 players are now all guaranteed €8,434.

Team PokerStars Pro Victor Ramdin Down

Nível 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Victor Ramdin
Victor Ramdin

We have to give it up to Victor Ramdin. At the end of Day 1b, he bagged a measly 9,200. We pegged him as one of the first players to go on Day 2, but he proved us wrong by running up his stack and making it through to Day 3. He began today short as well, but he once again proved he's a short-stack ninja by making it through the money bubble.

Unfortunately Ramdin's run just came to an end.

It happened when he moved all in for his last 28,500 from the hijack and Bulgaria's Valeri Savov called from the cutoff. The button and blinds both folded and the cards were turned up.

Savov: {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}
Ramdin: {6-Hearts}{7-Hearts}

Ramdin was behind, but he had the right kind of hand to crack a big pocket pair.

"Eight," Ramdin called when the {5-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{a-Spades} flop delivered him a gutshot straight draw. He had hope, but that didn't amount to anything as the {10-Hearts} blanked on the turn followed by the {10-Diamonds} river.

Ramdin exited in 73rd place.

Lindop Eliminated; Johnson Somehow Escapes in Monster Pot

Nível 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Mitch Johnson
Mitch Johnson

We happened upon the action with around 200,000 in the pot and a board reading {8-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{8-Hearts}. Alex Lindop had bet 67,000 — leaving himself 120,000 or so back — and Dinesh Alt raised all in for roughly 200,000 from the hijack.

Mitch Johnson was in the cutoff and thought a long time before releasing his hand.

"If I hadn't played with you yesterday I would definitely fold," Lindop told Alt. The man from the UK then thought for a solid minute before calling off.

"Nuts," Alt said and tabled the {8-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}. Lindop shook his head up and down and showed the {q-Hearts}{q-Spades}. Some other players at the table commented that it was a tough spot to get away from, but then Johnson said that he had folded aces.

No one believed him, so he reached over and turned over his discards — {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}.

"Wow," Shyam Srinivasan said, "Just wow." His sentiments were echoed by several other players at the table.

Nitsche Eliminated

Nível 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Dominik Nitsche
Dominik Nitsche

Dominik Nitsche was severely short, by what hand we're not sure. We are sure he had just 32,000 left when action folded to him in the small blind just now. He pushed all in and Giacomo Fundaro in the big blind was quick to call.

Giacomo Fundaro: {A-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}
Dominik Nitsche: {9-Spades}{4-Hearts}

Nitsche would out flop his Italian opponent on {4-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}, but the {A-Clubs} on the turn meant he needed a nine or four to stay alive. The {J-Diamonds} on the river meant he wasn't going to make another heroic comeback, Nitsche busted in 46th place (€10,170).

Telker Tossed in 43rd Place Courtesy of Srinivasan

Michael Telker
Michael Telker

After being cold decked not long ago, Michael Telker has fallen in 43rd place.

The American moved his last 52,000 all in under the gun and Shyam Srinivasan isolated with a three-bet to 126,000. The rest of the field folded and Telker discovered he was in a bad spot.

Telker: {a-Hearts}{8-Hearts}
Srinivasan: {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}

Telker had some kicker issues, and his best chance of winning was to find either an eight or hearts. Unfortunately for him, the {6-Clubs}{q-Spades}{j-Diamonds} flop was dry as could be. The {3-Diamonds} turn meant an eight and an eight only would save him, but it wasn't in the cards as the {4-Clubs} blanked on the river.
