Let's Crown an APPT Cebu Champion

2012 APPT Cebu at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino
2012 APPT Cebu at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino

This is it! After five days of tough poker we are finally down to nine and onto the final day of play here at the 2012 Asia Pacific Poker Tour Cebu Main Event.

Right now it's anyone's title to grab, but it is the two players from India in Amit Varma and Sameer Rattonsey who have the most chips at the table, with the former being the only player holding over one million in chips.

While Varma and Rattonsey will be tough opponents with that many chips, the rest of the table can't be ruled out as they have shown some tough poker skills during the last week. The player who may need a miracle to take it all down though, is Antoine Amourette as he heads into the final table with just a couple of big blinds, but hey, stranger things have happened.

A player bio for each player can be seen below, while here is how the final table is stacking up:

The cards are being dealt on the final day of APPT Cebu. The current level has around 30 minutes left and then it will be back to 60-minute levels as usual.

We'll be on Antoine Amourette watch early as he has only a few big blinds. With the button in seat 8, unfortunately for Amourette he starts in the big blind.

Amourette Triples

Antoine Amourette has finally got his stack all in after waiting until he had just 18,000 in chips left. He was in middle position when he tumbled his last couple of chips in and would receive calls from Hoang Anh Do and Michael Kanaan in the blinds.

The board was spread {8-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} as Do and Kanaan checked it down. Do turned over {6-Hearts}{5-Spades}, while Kanaan dropped {j-Hearts}{6-Spades} onto the felt.

"No pairs?" said Amourette with a slight smile as he turned over {a-Spades}{5-Hearts} to take down the pot with his high-card.

Early Stages

Nível 20 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Play has been quite slow in the early stages of the final table. With such a short stack at the table, it is seeming like the rest of the players don't want to play a hand together until Antoine Amourette busts and with Amourette playing conservative himself, there is not much going on at all.

Wang Wins One

It has pretty much been the first hand that has gone all the way to showdown and it all started when Jacky Wang opened it up 24,000 from middle position. Hoang Anh Do made the call on his direct left and the rest of the table got out of the way as three cards were dealt on the felt.

Flop: {2-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}

On the flop, Wang led for 27,000 and Do made the call as the two players would check on a {3-Hearts} turn. On the {q-Diamonds} river, Do almost seemed uninterested as the dealer had to get his attention to tell him that Wang had checked. Do quickly checked behind and turned over {5-Hearts}{5-Spades}. It was no good for Wang's {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} as he took down the small pot.

Do and Wang Rumble Again

In virtually an instant replay of the previous hand, Jacky Wang opened to 24,000 and Hoang Anh Do made the call. They took a flop of {q-Spades}{10-Spades}{8-Hearts} and Wang continuation bet again for 27,000. Do again made the call.
The turn brought the {4-Diamonds} and Wang tapped the table. This time Do decided to bet, as he slid out a hefty 125,000. Wang raised his eyebrows and mucked as Do jumps over the one million chip mark

Antoine Amourette Eliminated in 9th Place (PHP 494,000)

Antoine Amourette - 9th Place

It took 15 hands for the short-stacked Antoine Amourette to wake up with {k-Hearts}{k-Spades} and it took the same amount of hands to see him eliminated from this tournament.

Amourette was down to 38,000 when he shoved all-in. Given his circumstances, he couldn't have asked for a better spot. It was Sameer Rattonsey who would give Amourette action, raising it up to 100,000 on Amourette's left and scaring the rest of the players away.

Amourette had a dreaded ace to worry about as Ratttonseyh turned over {a-Hearts}{k-Spades} and all his nightmares would come true as a {7-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{a-Clubs} flop was spread across the felt. No help came for Amourette on the turn and river and it was out in 9th place with PHP 494,000 to his name.
