Two Tables Remain in Winamax Poker Open Main Event; Guillou Bags Monster Chip Lead

Nível 37 : 60,000/120,000, 120,000 ante
Philippe Guillou
Philippe Guillou

Not content with a third-place finish in the High Roller, Philippe Guillou clearly feels he has some unfinished business at the Winamax Poker Open Dublin festival, after steamrolling through the latter stages to bag a 13,600,000 and a huge chip lead ahead of the tournament's conclusion on Sunday 29th September.

The Frenchman took home €20,730 for his efforts in the High Roller, and has now guaranteed himself €6,200 for making it through to the tournament's final day. A handsome sum of €86,000 awaits the winner of this the record-breaking WPO Main Event.

There is a long gap behind him to Nicolas Merceron (7,845,000) and Sacha Thery (6,860,000) who will be hoping the cards go their way early on Day 3 to bridge the gap to Guillou.

Short-stacks Alexandre Blanc (3,235,000), Raul Patron (3,320,000), Kevin Goillot (3,460,000), Simon Thomas (3,650,000) will all start the day with between 25 and 30 big blinds, with plenty of play still in the tournament.

Other players through to Day 3 include 2016 final tablist Sven McDermott (5,880,000) and Fraser Macinyre (4,685,000).

Day Recap

The day began with 266 players all vying for a place in the money. A total of 197 places were paid and the bubble burst less than two hours into the day.

Some players to miss out on a payout included 2018 High Roller champion Peter Jaksland, Elisabeth Loiseau, Winamax Team Pro Guillaume Diaz and 2019 High Roller final tablist Gabor Szabo.

The unfortunate bubble boy was Quentin Brochard who looked set for a double when he got jacks in against eights, only for an eight to appear on the flop for his opponent to send him home short of the money. By the first break, over 100 players had been eliminated in just over 90 minutes of play.

The eliminations kept coming, with Samuel Baneham (157th - €1,050) and Aladin Reskallah (125th - €1,100) early casualties alongside Ivan Deyra (120th - €1,100), Leo Margets (104th - €1,100), Adrian Mateos (80th - €1,350) andGaelle Baumann (78th - €1,350).

By this stage, several players had surpassed a million in chips, but it was Fraser Macintyre who soared ahead of the pack with over triple average at over three million in chips.

He was soon joined by the likes of Kevin Goillot and Ibrahim Senoussi as the evening progressed. Davidi Kitai and Pierre Calamusa were the last Winamax Team Pros to bust, with the former champion eliminated in 58th place, one behind the Belgian birthday boy in 57th.

By dinner, it was Guillou alone at the top of the proceedings, and on his return, he tightened the screw. Relinquishing his chip lead to Nicolas Plantin momentarily, Guillou rode a wave that would see him top 13 million chips by the time play halted with two tables left.

Play will resume on Sunday at midday however our coverage for the entire final day will be on a 30-minute delay with the Winamax live stream. Join us for what will undoubtedly be an exciting day of poker.

Blanc Doubles Through, Then Eliminates Miles

Nível 36 : 50,000/100,000, 100,000 ante
Tony Miles
Tony Miles

Blind on blind Tony Miles called a shove from Alexandre Blanc for their last 1,105,000.

Tony Miles: {j-Clubs}{8-Clubs}
Alexandre Banc: {3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}

The board came {2-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} giving Blanc a full hosue and leaving Miles with just 300,000.

He got that in a few hands later, three-betting over an open from Blanc. Nicolas Merceron called and Blanc moved all in. However, Miles' shove hadn't reopened the action so it was just a call.

The duo checked down a {q-Spades}{6-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{4-Hearts} board and all the hands were tabled. Merceron showed {j-Hearts}{10-Clubs} with Blanc holding {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}

Miles showed {j-Spades}{10-Hearts} and was eliminated in 14th place for €6,200.

Guillou Extends Chip Lead

Nível 35 : 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante
Philippe Guillou
Philippe Guillou

Christian Gruet opened to 175,000 and Philippe Guillou flat-called. Alex Kulev three-bet to 650,000 and Guillou was the only caller.

Guillou check-called 550,000 on the {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{4-Spades} flop and the pair both checked the 7c] turn.

The river was the {3-Spades} and Guillou bet 800,000 into a pot of around 2.5 million.

Kulev took his time and shook his head repeatedly before eventually folding.

Guillou flashed the {q-Hearts} and took down the pot.

Former Champion Calamusa Eliminated

Nível 30 : 15,000/35,000, 35,000 ante
Pierre Calamusa
Pierre Calamusa

Three big pots is what did for 2015 champion Pierre Calamusa in the end. According to our French colleagues, he four-bet pre-flop and then jammed a {9-}{10-}{4-} flop with {8-}{9-} suited, only for his opponent to call with {q-}{q-}.

That knocked him back, and he then check-raised all in on a {k-}{7-}{5-} flop with two clubs holding {8-Clubs}{9-Clubs} and failed to get there versus a single opponent.

Finally, blind on blind he lost for his last eight big blinds {6-}{6-} vs {a-}{3-} to bust from the Main Event.

Nível 28 : 12,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
Fraser Macintyre
Fraser Macintyre

In a stunning turn of events, Fraser Macintyre now sits on around three million in chips!

"I'm not really sure," he told us after we inquired as to how he had gotten this monster stack. "These guys kept on coming to the table and saying 'Fraser, would you like to have these chips?'

"I don't think it was good play or anything, just sheer damn luck!"

Baumann Doubles; Mateos Eliminated

Nível 27 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Gaelle Baumann
Gaelle Baumann

Gaelle Baumann shoved from under the gun for around 150,000 and it folded to big stack Vincent Descamps in the big blind who called.

Gaelle Baumann: {2-Spades}{2-Diamonds}
Vincent Descamps: {10-Hearts}{7-Spades}

Descamps probably wasn't expecting a flip, but deuces held on a {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} runout for Baumann to double.

Meanwhile another Winamax Team Pro has been eliminated, with Adrian Mateos losing a flip with {a-}{j-} against the {4-}{4-} of Christian Gruet to bust.

Kitai Over a Million with Moreau Elimination

Nível 26 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Davidi Kitai
Davidi Kitai

Vivien Moreau was all in holding {7-Hearts}{7-Spades} against the {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} of Winamax Team Pro Davidi Kitai for 325,000.

The turn {9-Spades}{6-Hearts}{a-Hearts} wasn't exactly what Moreau had hoped for, and said aloud that he needed seven, eight or ten. However, he tapped Kitai on the shoulder as the {q-Spades} came on the turn leaving him drawing dead as the river bricked and he was eliminated.

Kitai now sits on over one million in chips.

Aladin Reskallah

Mehdi Saidi opened to 28,000 and Aladin Reskallah three-bet all in for 130,000. Saidi thought about it before calling.

Mehdi Saidi: {j-Spades}{8-Spades}
Aladin Reskallah: {k-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}

The flop came {q-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{7-Spades} giving no help to Saidi. The turn {j-Hearts} gave him a straight but Reskallah could still make his straight or pair his king. The river, however, was the {5-Diamonds} and he was eliminated.
