Over 600 players took their seats this afternoon in at the start of Day 2 in the World Series of Poker Event #5: $565 Colossus No Limit Hold'em, but only 43 bagged chips at the conclusion of play.

Leading the way is Raul Martinez Requena, who ended the day with 5,270,000 chips after a huge surge toward the end of the night.

Several well-known players also remain in contention for WSOP gold in this event, including Matt Affleck, Robert Hankins, and Tom Hall.

However, many others weren't so lucky. Today's casualties included Cody Pack, Ismael Bojang, Sebastian Pauli, Cate Hall, Haixia Zhang, Jeff Gross, and Ryan Laplante. Both Chris Moorman and his wife Katie Lindsay were eliminated today as well.

Players will return Tuesday at 2 p.m. to play down to a final table. Follow all the updates here on PokerNews throughout the 2017 World Series of Poker.

Luke Vrabel Doubles; Goes Nuts

Nível 24 : 12,000/24,000, 4,000 ante
Luke Vrabel - Going Nuts
Luke Vrabel - Going Nuts

There was an open to 50,000 from late position, and Luke Vrabel three-bet to 115,000 on the button. That wasn’t the end of it, though, as the player in the small blind four-bet jammed for 450,000. The original raiser got out of the way, and Vrabel called.

Small Blind: {a-}{q-}.
Luke Vrabel: {k-}{k-}

The flop was a fairly safe {j-}{8-}{3-}, but the turn card {10-} gave Vrabel’s opponent a double-gutter. Vrabel was out of his seat anticipating the pain to come if his opponent got there on the river.

The final card, though, was a {7-}.

“F#%k yes!” Vrabel screamed, going nuts as the chips were pushed his way. He eliminated a player to crest one million chips for the first time in the Colossus.

Matt Affleck Stacks Another One

Nível 24 : 12,000/24,000, 4,000 ante
Matt Affleck
Matt Affleck

Matt Affleck raised to 55,000 from under the gun, a player in middle position called, and the player in the cutoff moved all in for 250,000. Affleck reshoved, and after a few moments of consideration, the middle-position player folded. Affleck tabled {8-Hearts}{8-Spades}, and his opponent showed {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}.

The board ran out {4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{2-Clubs}{J-Hearts}, and Affleck took the pot, putting his stack over the 2,000,000-chip mark.

Ismael Bojang Doubles Up

Nível 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Ismael Bojang
Ismael Bojang

Ismael Bojang just informed the PokerNews Live Reporting team that he recently doubled to about 750,000 chips.

According to Bojang, a player raised to 35,000, Bojang shoved from the cutoff with {8-}{8-} for approximately 370,000, and the big blind called. The original raiser folded, and the big blind tabled {A-}{K-}, so Bojang was flipping for his tournament life. The board provided no help to the big blind, and Bojang's pair of eights held for the double-up.

Mark Babekov Busts Another Two; Nears 2 Million

Nível 21 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Mark Babekov
Mark Babekov

Franklin Connell open-shoved for 168,000 and got a call from Mark Babekov. A third player moved all in over the top for a total of just over 180,000 and the math made for a call from Babekov.

Connell with {9-Spades}{9-Clubs} faced off against the {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs} of Babekov and the other player’s {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}.

The flop was {5-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{a-Spades}.

A set of nines for Connell shot him into the lead.

The turn card was the {a-Spades} which secured Connell a full house.

The river, however, was the {q-Spades} to give Babekov boat over boat to secure an unlikely double elimination and see another big pot shipped his way as he closes in on 2 million in chips.

Is there no stopping this man?

Ardavan Yazdi - Day 2 Chip Leader

The third ever Colossus lived up to its name again as six flights across three days attracted 18,053 entries. The surviving 634 players will combine today in the Pavilion at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino as Event #5 of the World Series of Poker 2017 continues.

Ardavan Yazdi is the chip leader with a whopping 588,000. Not too far behind though is Thomas Boivin in second with 538,000 and currently in third place is Harry Arutyunyan on 504,000.

Some of the famous faces in the field who have navigated their way through the huge number of entries include Mike Leah (310,000), Chris Ferguson (309,000), Matt Affleck (272,000), Jason Wheeler (235,000), Chris Moorman (185,000), Ryan Laplante (155,000), Greg Raymer (149,000), Cate Hall (138,000).

Many players fired several bullets to get this far, including Ryan Laplante who tweeted ahead of the start of play: “Day 2 of the $565 @wsop Colossus today, took 9 bullets, but got 2 cashes and bagged 155k at bb8k.”

Ben Keeline won this event last year and he has made it through to Day 2 as well with 53,500 and a dream of making history by claiming back-to-back victories. All the players are in the money with the eventual winner set to take home that magic figure of $1,000,000.

The plan for today is to play 10 one-hour levels with a 15-minute break at the end of every two levels and a one-hour dinner break at the end of today's sixth level which should be 8:30 pm.

Cards are in the air at 2 p.m. when Level 19 clicks over and blinds will be 4,000/8,000 with a 1,000 ante. The average chip stack is currently 142,374. Here's the prize pool information:
