Matt Berkey Among Leaders of Event #16: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em 6-Handed at End of Day 1

A total of 1,748 players joined the field in the Event #16: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em 6-Handed. Day 1 saw 263 runners make it through as the play was halted right after the bubble burst.

While all remaining players are guaranteed to earn at least $2,247, the prize on the top of the mountain is much more attractive as the champion will walk away with a whopping $393,273. It will take another two days to find the owner of the top-prize and a bracelet, but California's Dustin Bush is closer to the finish line than anyone so far. He bagged up 182,800 to take the overnight chip lead.

Matt Berkey is on Bush's heels with 166,500. Berkey is a household name here in Las Vegas. He's a regular fixture in the highest buy-in events in town. Berkey is yet to win a bracelet but has a bunch WSOP final tables to his name.

Other big stacks include Aditya Agarwal (140,000), Matthew Zarcadoolas (138300), Mike Holm (136,000) John Cynn (122,700), Vinny Pahuja (117,600), Layne Flack (116,400), among others.

Dean Baranowski also navigated his way into Day 2. Baranowski had a remarkable day as he'd previously notched cashes in two other places. He registered for this tournament just before dinner and survived the bubble again.

On the other hand, Anatoly Filatov, Harrison Gimbel, Matt Affleck, Matt Vengrin, Kenny Hallaert, Sorel Mizzi, Mohsin Charania, Valentin Vornicu, Nick Petrangelo and Ari Engel were just a few of the numerous players who left the tournament empty-handed.

The remaining players will return back tomorrow as the tournament will commence at 12 p.m. in the Miranda Room. Day 2 starts with Level 11: 600/1,200 and a running ante 200. PokerNews will be once again right on the spot to provide live updates from stacking to bagging.

Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier is already locked into a spot as one of the biggest winners of the 2017 World Series of Poker. Grospellier finished second in the High Roller for One Drop, picking up a juicy $2,278,657 reward.

His momentum apparently carries on even in the $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em 6-Handed. Grospellier was in the big blind, facing an all-in from the player in the cutoff. It was about 5,000, and ElkY didn't spend more than a second calling to put his opponent at risk.

Event #16: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em 6-Handed Starts Today!

Event #16: $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em 6-Handed will begin today at 11 a.m. and is scheduled to last three days. Mike Cordell is the reigning champ of this event. Cordell defeated a field of 1,477 entries to take home the $346,088 first-place prize in last year’s event, which generated a prize pool of close to $2 million.

For the $1,500 buy-in, players will receive 7,500 chips. Levels will last 60 minutes with registration open through the first six levels of play.
