The 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) is underway, running from now through July 18[/B], the 54th Annual WSOP will return to the Las Vegas Strip for the second year in a row for a total of 95 bracelets — the most in WSOP history.
In addition, there will be 20 bracelets – up from 13 last year – awarded on WSOP.com in the merged network of New Jersey and Nevada, while the segregated markets of Pennsylvania and Michigan are each awarding seven bracelets.
The PokerNews team was called over to a table to hear about a hand after the fact that had just took place.
A player in middle position opened to 1,000 and both the hijack and Frederic Robert in the cutoff made the call.
The flop fanned out K♦9♦4♣ and action checked to the hijack who bet 2,000. Robert called and the initial raiser folded.
On the A♠ turn the hijack checked and Robert took the lead with a bet of 5,000. The hijack put in a check-raise to 12,000 and Robert took some time before moving all in for 24,500. The hijack tanked for awhile before eventually making the call and the cards were shown.
Fred Robert: A♦3♦
Opponent: 4♥4♠
Robert was in need of help against the bottom set of his opponent, and when the 6♦ peeled off on the river it was the flush for Robert that scored the pot and full double up to almost double starting stack.
The action was relayed by the table after the fact. David Coghlan opened to 1,200 from the button and Lance Banktooten put in a three-bet to 3,600 from the small blind. The big blind got out of the way and Coghlan put in a four-bet to 9,000, which Banktooten called.
The flop came 7♣4♣3♣ and both players checked their options to the 9♣ turn. Banktooten elected to lead out for 8,000 and Coghlan made the call.
The K♦ completed the board and Banktooten bet again, this time to 12,000. Coghlan moved all in for over 20,000 and Banktooten quickly let his hand go.
Coghlan revealed that he had A♣K♥ for the turned ace-high flush to take down the four-bet pot.
