After 22 levels of play, WSOP bracelet winner Justin Liberto is the commanding chip leader with 4,255,000. Other players near the top of the leaderboard include Jordan Hufty (3,750,000), Clifford Conners (2,375,000), and Jonathan Williams (2,370,000).

Liberto won a bracelet in 2015 in the $3,000 No-Limit Hold’em Six-Handed event, and he will return on Day 2 to continue his quest for a second WSOP title.

Elsewhere on Day 1a, Allen Kessler hit the rail after the bubble when he got his stack in with ace-jack, but his opponent made a flush with once dominated queen-jack. Katie Kopp also took her shot a day after winning the first bracelet in Event #1: $500 Casino Employees Event. However, Kopp didn’t find a bag for Day 2, but she will have three more opportunities in the remaining flights.

Other runners that cashed but fell short of Day 2 included James Romero, Maria Konnikova and WSOP bracelet winner Stephen Song. Notables who fell throughout the day included bracelet winners Howard Mash, Ryan Laplante and Women in Poker Hall of Fame member Kathy Liebert.

Cards go in the air for Day 1b at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, and the second of four flights will once again play 22 30-minute levels. Surviving players from all flights will return for Day 2 on Monday, June 6 at 10:00 a.m.

Allen Kessler was all-in on the button for his remaining 204,000 which was called by Eric Tipsword who opened the pot from early position.

The flop of {7-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{3-Spades} was a wet one with Kessler still slightly in the lead.

When the turn brought the {10-Spades} and the meaningless {3-Hearts} river sent Kessler to the payout desk.

"The PokerNews curse is real" said Kessler jokingly as he exited the room.

Miguel Reyes limped from early position and the action folded to four-time WSOP bracelet winner Joe Cada, who checked his option.

The flop was {6-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{j-Clubs} and Cada checked. Reyes bet 7,000 and Cada put out a stack of 100,000, enough to cover Reyes. Reyes committed the last of his 50,000 and was at risk.

Miguel Reyes: {7-Spades}{7-Clubs}
Joe Cada: {k-Clubs}{5-Clubs}

Reyes was in front with his pocket sevens, but Cada held a flush draw.

The turn was the {3-Diamonds} and the river brought the {8-Spades} as Reyes dodged the outs to double through the former Main Event Champion.

The board came {6-Spades}{10-Spades}{7-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{q-Clubs} and Papadopoulos turned a set to win that race and keep building a big stack.

Duston Wallace raised to 10,000 from the cutoff, the small blind called and then poker pro Gabriel Andrade moved all-in for 60,000 from the big blind. Wallace also moved in for 126,000 effective and the small blind got out of the way.

Newly Minted Champion Kopp Back For More

Nível 8 : 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Katie Kopp
Katie Kopp

Fresh off winning her first bracelet last night in Event #1: Casino Employee Event No-Limit Hold'em for more than $65,000, Katie Kopp is back in play.

She said she hasn't slept since her victory in the wee hours of the morning, but that hasn't stopped her from nearly doubling her starting stack in the early going.

The action folded to Kopp in the small blind and she raised to 3,000. Her opponent in the big blind called and the flop came down {5-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{a-Clubs}. Kopp fired out 3,000 more and the big blind came along.

On the turn {a-Diamonds}, both players checked to the {9-Clubs} river. Both players checked again.

"You win," said the big blind as he turned over {4-Spades}{3-Spades}.

Kopp tabled {j-Spades}{10-} and that was enough to win the pot.

Welcome to Event #5: $500 The Housewarming No-Limit Hold'em

Cards WSOP 2022
Cards WSOP 2022

Today kicks off Day 1A of Event #5: $500 The Housewarming No-Limit Hold'em at the 2022 WSOP in its new home at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas. This will be the first of four Day 1s for this event, with flights beginning at 10 a.m. each day, June 2 through June 5. The event features a whopping $5,000,000 guaranteed prize pool.

As this is a feature event to celebrate the move to the new venue, the only tournament it can be compared to right now is the Event #4: $500 The Reunion No-Limit Hold’em in 2021 where Long Ma won $513,604. That tournament attracted 12,973 entries and The Housewarming is expected to crush those numbers.

All Day 1s will kick of in the Paris Ballroom but with the expected field for this tournament, tables in the Bally's Ballroom have also been opened up for today's players.

Players start with 50,000 in chips, with blinds at 100/200 with a 200 big blind ante to begin. Day 1 levels are 30 minutes each with 20-minute breaks following every fourth level. A 90-minute dinner break is scheduled to take place after Level 14 (which should be around 6 p.m. if cards go in the air on time).

Late registration remains open for 10 levels (around 4 p.m.). Play will conclude after 22 levels or until 15% of the field is remaining, whichever is later. Players may re-enter once per flight.

Remaining players will return for Day 2 on Monday, June 6 at 10 a.m., with the event wrapping up the following day.

Stay tuned into PokerNews for live updates for this and all other events during the 2022 World Series of Poker at Bally's and Paris, Las Vegas.
