Nível 20 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Paul Dhaliwal

Day 1 of Event #9: $600 No-Limit Hold’em Deepstack is in the bag and what a day of poker it was. When all the entries were processed and tallied up, the tournament had an incredible 6,150 entrants. After 20 levels of action, only 582 players had chips in front of them that needed bagging and tagging.

Canada’s Paul Dhaliwal is the man to catch going into Day 2 after amassing an impressive 1,612,000 chips before the curtain came down on Day 1. The Canadian is no stranger to the World Series of Poker, especially larger field events. Dhaliwal navigated his way to a 58th place finish in the 2017 WSOP Main Event, a result that netted him $121,188.

Five other players finished Day 1 with stacks of chips in excess of 1 million. Michael Morhaime (1,275,000) returns to the felt second in chips, David Elet (1,255,000) and [Removed:321] Saadeghvazri (1,215,000) hot on his heels. The two other seven-figure stacks belong to Christopher Battenfield (1,190,000) and Zachary VanKeuren (1,032,000)

Dhaliwal will need to finish fourth or higher if he wants to win a larger sum of money from this event. Some 923 places are being paid in this tournament, with a min-cash being worth $874, a final table appearance guaranteeing a $35,183 prize and the eventual winner banking a cool $398,281 and a coveted WSOP bracelet.

Among those who bust on Day 1, but inside the money places, included 15-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth, Joe Cada, Ismael Bojang, Brock Parker, Joseph Cheong, former WSOP Main Event champion Ryan Riess, and Joe Kuether.

Still in with a shot of glory and a big payday are such luminaries as Scott Davies (800,000), Jake Schwartz (712,000), the legendary Daniel Negreanu (601,000), Tobias Peters (357,000), Ylon Schwartz (342,000), and Erik Seidel (290,000).

Phil Hellmuth has re-entered the tournament, and he's up to 133,000 chips.

In early position, Hellmuth and an opponent on the big blind arrived at the river on a very dynamic {8-Clubs}{a-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{10-Clubs} board. The big blind led out for 10,000 and Hellmuth raised to 37,000 and got the call.

"Straight flush," said Hellmuth as he tabled the {9-Clubs} and scooped the pot.

Hawkins Running it Up

Nível 11 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Maurice Hawkins
Maurice Hawkins

Maurice Hawkins is playing aggressive poker and frequently adding chips to his stack.

The 13-time WSOP-C ring winner took down pots on consecutive hands to build his stack up to 270,000. On the first hand, the button opened for 3,500, and Hawkins three-bet to 12,000 from the big blind, getting the fold and dragging the pot.

On the very next hand, Hawkins was on the small blind and faced a 6,200 bet from an opponent in early position on the turn, with the board showing {10-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{5-Spades}{a-Diamonds}. Hawkins made the call, and the river came the {10-Spades}.

Hawkins checked and the in-position player checked back, luckily for him as Hawkins turned over {q-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} for the full house.

Hellmuth Staves off Elimination

Nível 8 : 400/800, 800 ante
Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

Phil Hellmuth kept his tournament hopes alive after seeing his stack dwindle to 14,500, getting all of his chips in on a flop of {2-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{6-Clubs}. An opponent in the small blind called, and the 15-time WSOP bracelet winner showed {5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} for a flopped straight.

The small blind got no help on the turn and river, and Hellmuth doubled up to 29,000.

"Did you have a flush draw?" Hellmuth asked, to which his opponent confirmed. "And you called off 10k with that?"

Cada Already Amongst Chip Leaders

Nível 5 : 200/400, 400 ante
Joe Cada
Joe Cada

Four-time bracelet winner and 2009 Main Event champion Joe Cada has sat down in the Brasilia Room with a 77,000-chip stack. He's keeping it low key at his table, but he did just collaborate with a player from the adjacent table on a food order that looks like it just arrived.

Is Cada on the way to bracelet No. 5 in the $600 No-Limit Deepstack? It's too early to tell, but he's off to a good start as Level 5 begins.
