The 2019 World Series of Poker added 19 new events to its schedule, one of which is a $500 buy-in bracelet event that brings something extra to the 50th annual World Series of Poker.

Event #71: $500 Salute To Warriors is a single re-entry tournament that is open to all players, but WSOP organizers are also encouraging military members and former military members to jump in the action. The event benefits the United Services Organization (USO), which has provided live entertainment and other services for the active military for 77 years, and other military-related charities, with $40 of each buy-in going to the charities.

The Salute to Warriors kicks off today, Tuesday, July 2nd and will wrap up on Friday, July 5th. Players fittingly have a day off on July 4, American Independence Day. Cards are in the air from 11:00 a.m. local time and players will start their day armed with 25,000 in chips.

Day 1 is scheduled to play 15 levels with each level lasting 40-minutes. Players will receive a 20-minute break after every three levels with a 75-minute dinner break after the ninth level of the day. Players are allowed one re-buy while late registration is open, which is gives them until the conclusion of the ninth level to make any re-entries.

Stay tuned here as he PokerNews live reporting team will be on hand throughout the day bringing you all of the updates of this historical event.

Walking through the Salut To Warriors event, PokerNews has spotted 1989 bracelet winner Mike Sexton.

After winning the WSOP Tournament of Champions in 2006 for $1,000,000, Mike Sexton, donated half of his earnings to any charity's to his desire. Two organizations he donated too are two of his favorites, the Paralyzed Veterans of America and Wounded Warriors, both received $100,000 each from Sexton.

“I love that the WSOP is supporting those who have served, and are raising money for veteran organizations,” Sexton stated, “To me, a former military man, this is the highlight addition of the 50th WSOP.”

“I would certainly hope the Salute to Warriors tournament at the WSOP will not only be popular, but become an annual fixture,” he says. “I believe nearly all players would like to support those in the armed forces and the military charities that will benefit from this event.”
