Derek McMaster won his first gold bracelet at the 50th Annual World Series of Poker (WSOP) when he topped an 853-player field in Event #4: $1,500 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better. He took home the jewelry and the first-place prize of $228,228 by beating Jason Berilgen heads-up. Berilgen had to settle for $141,007. The 2018 WSOP Player-of-the-Year runner-up Ben Yu took 7th for $27,530.

It was McMaster's first WSOP cash and right away his first final table. When asked about the lights and the stage he told PokerNews ''It was very surreal to me, I've just been on cloud nine since last night, just happy to be here and enjoyed playing with these guys''.

McMaster brought a lot of friends with him to the final table and the entire rail around the feature table stage was occupied. ''We have a lot of poker players in town for whatever reason, and they just happened to be here today which I'm happy for!''

Final Day Action
Seven players returned for the final day of the tournament. The first four-card bracelet of the summer was on the line. Three bracelet winners were still in the tournament at the start of the day but it didn't take too long for the first to fall.

Three-time bracelet winner Yu was the first player eliminated. He started the day sixth in chips but he wasn't able to realize a comeback. Yu busted out in seventh place which earned him $27,530.

Tom McCormick was up next to exit the tournament. McCormick sits in third on the list of players with the most amount of cashes but without a bracelet. This final table was McCormick's 15th at the World Series of Poker but he has yet to finish at the top in one. The sixth spot on the leaderboard was the highest McCormick reached in this one and he took home $37,063 for his deep run.

Joseph Aronesty (5th - $50,646) and bracelet winner David Halpern (4th - $70,231) both missed out on the heads-up, just like another WSOP gold bracelet winner. John Esposito won a bracelet twenty years ago but he wasn't able to add another to his collection when he busted out in third place against eventual runner-up Berilgen. Esposito did add another $98,807 to his already $1,206,121 WSOP earnings.

The heads-up didn't take too long and McMaster was in control the entire time. Berilgen did win a big pot but he didn't manage to take over the lead. He eventually lost a big pot that left him with one big bet and he lost that the next hand to the new WSOP champion.

That wraps up the PokerNews coverage of Event #4: $1,500 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better at the World Series of Poker. Stay tuned for coverage of all the WSOP gold bracelet events throughout the summer.

Derek McMaster put Jason Berilgen all in from the button and Berilgen called for his tournament life.

Derek McMaster: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}
Jason Berilgen: {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{4-Spades}{4-Clubs}

The {q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} flop kept McMaster in the lead. Berilgen took over on the {4-Diamonds} but the river was the {a-Diamonds} that awarded McMaster the victory, the WSOP gold bracelet, and the first-place prize of $228,228 while Berilgen had to settle for $141,007.

A full recap will follow shortly.

John Esposito Eliminated in 3rd Place ($98,807)

Nível 32 : 120,000/240,000, 0 ante

John Esposito

Derek McMaster opened from the button, John Esposito called in the small blind and Jason Berilgen defended his big blind. The dealer spread out {j-Spades}{8-Spades}{10-Hearts} on the flop and action checked to Esposito who pushed in a bet.

McMaster ducked and Bergilsen check-raised. Esposito moved all in over the top for 270,000 total and Berilgen called the additional 20,000.

Esposito tabled {10-Spades}{7-Spades}{6-Hearts}{2-Clubs} for a pair of tens along with straight and flush draws. Berilgen turned over {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{4-Spades} for a pair of jacks with a straight draw.

The turn came down a {5-Clubs} and Esposito now picked up some more outs to take down the pot. A {3-Diamonds} hit the felt as a river card and failed to connect with Esposito as he was eliminated by the better high and low hand of Berilgen.

Action folded to David Halpern in the small blind, he made it two bets and Derek McMaster elected to push Halpern all in from the big blind. Halpern called for his 250,000 stack and the two turned over their hands.

David Halpern: {a-Spades}{6-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}
Derek McMaster: {k-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{2-Clubs}

The dealer fanned out {q-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} on the flop and McMaster took the lead with his pair of queens. An {8-Clubs} landed on the turn, giving Halpern some scoop and low outs, but the {j-Diamonds} on the river did not improve his hand as McMaster took down the pot with his pair of queens, sending Halpern out in fourth place for $70,231.

Joseph Aronesty sat on the button with less than a big bet and he called. He left himself with just 30,000 behind and Jason Berilgen called from the small blind. Big blind John Esposito checked his option and they went to the flop.

The dealer put down the {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{8-Hearts} flop and Aronesty put his last 30,000 in the middle after it checked to him. Both players in the blinds called.

The turn was the {4-Spades} and both players checked. They did the exact same thing on the {k-Spades} river.

The cards were unknown but we can confirm that Joseph Aronesty busted out of the tournament in 5th place, cashing for $50,646.

Seven Return for First Four Card Bracelet with Esposito in the Lead

Ben Yu
Ben Yu

The final seven players in Event #4: $1,500 Omaha 8 or Better will be returning today at 12 p.m. local time to battle it out for the first non-Hold'em bracelet of the summer. A total of 853 entry slips were sold in this event, accumulating a prize pool of $,1,151,550, with the winner pulling in $228,228 for first as well as a WSOP gold bracelet.

Leading the way is well-known grinder John Esposito who bagged 2,330,000 by the end of last night and will be the start of day chip leader. Esposito's resume is impressive, with over 1.2 million in WSOP cashes and a bracelet to his name. He will be looking to secure his second prestigious piece of jewelry today and put another six-figure cash on his already stacked resume.

Nipping at the heels of Esposito is Jason Berilgen with 2,145,000 in chips. Berilgen spotted a short-stack for the better part of Day 3, but showed he had the patience as he grinded his way back into contention and even had the lead for a couple of levels. He will be coming into the final day second and if he finishes in the top two will surpass his biggest cash of $131,410.

The most achieved player at the final table will be starting near the bottom in Ben Yu, who will be beginning with just three bets to start. Yu may be starting the day on the shorter side of things but he has all the talent and experience to take down this tournament. He has three bracelets and over 4 million in WSOP cashes. Yu finished second only to Shaun Deeb in the 2018 WSOP Player of the Year race and is already off to a great start here with an early final table to start the series.

Derek McMaster began the third day near the bottom and managed to spin up a third-place stack of 1,775,000. McMaster was even sitting in the lead until a few late hands knocked him down on the totem. David Halpern (1,270,000) and Joseph Aronesty (855,000) will be starting the day in the middle of the pack and Tom McCormick is on short stack duty with just 85,000. McCormick may be coming in short but has enough final table experience to make a comeback, with this being his 17th WSOP final table.

All remaining runners are now guaranteed at least a $27,530 payday and will have their eyes set on the $228,288 first place cash prize. Players will be returning at noon to 25,000/50,000 blinds with 50,000/100,000 limits. There will be a 15-minute break after every two levels of play, a dinner break is not currently in the schedule but may be added. The remaining seven will play until a champion is crowned, taking home that $228,228 top prize, as well as the priceless gold WSOP bracelet.

The final table will be airing on CBS All Access for viewers in the USA, Canada, and Australia while the rest of the world can watch along on PokerGO from 1 PM local time according to their schedule. The PokerNews live reporting team will be bringing you all of the updates throughout the final day of the event, so stay tuned as all of the action unfolds.
