After ninety-nine hands on the final table in the Amazon Room on the Thunderdome stage in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino, Daniel Strelitz was the one to claim his first WSOP gold bracelet and the first-place prize of $442,385. Strelitz defeated Shannon Shorr heads-up who cashed for $273,416. Exactly 400 players showed up for Event #11: $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em during the 50th Annual World Series of Poker.

“I’m feeling pretty good, I finally got it off my back. I came close a few times so it was kinda disappointing but it wasn’t like I was desperate for one. It wasn’t a void in my life or anything. It’s just a massive relief, I’m super happy.” Strelitz said just after winning while surrounded by his parents and friends. “It’s awesome, my parents are my biggest fans. All my friends have bracelets and they have been needling me about the bracelet winners event this year. And now they’re saying that they have a ride to the event cause I’m the car. So, they don’t get to needle me anymore.”

Strelitz came into the final table as the second-shortest stack but managed to overcome all the hurdles in the end. “Yesterday I had about a third of the chips with seven players left and then I lost an insanely large pot to Shannon. I am kinda glad we ended the night after that, I got to get some rest and recover. I’m here now, just play my stack, and go forward.”

The final six players

The day started with five of the six players in their seats. Ali Imsirovic missed the first ten hands in which Strelitz found his first double-up through Shorr with ace-king which might have been the kick-start his climb in the chip counts. Arsenii Karmatckii came into the day as the absolute short stack with 13 big blinds and got them all over the line with deuces. Imsirovic called with ace-nine and turned two pair to eliminate the Russian in sixth place for his fourth biggest live tournament cash ever to take him to almost $1.4 million in lifetime cashes according to The Hendon Mob.

Strelitz doubled up again for eleven big blinds through Shorr before Maria Ho was eliminated by him. Ho had put her tournament life at risk with pocket eights while Strelitz had called with the kings. No help came for Ho on the board as Strelitz improved to a full house on the river. Her sixth WSOP final table came to an end for her in fifth place to take her closer to the $4 million mark in lifetime career earnings in live tournaments.

Maria Ho
Maria Ho finished in fifth place for $91,211

Ognjen Sekularac got short after doubling Strelitz up when he three-bet shoved with king-five and Strelitz called for 40 big blinds with pocket tens. The tens held up to leave Sekularac behind with less than a million in chips. Imsirovic and Sekularac kept clashing with the latter coming out better and Imsirovic shorter but it was Strelitz who dealt the final blow to Imsirovic. His pocket nines couldn’t beat the pair of tens Strelitz had flopped and the Bosnian was sent to the payout desk in fourth place.

Five hands later, Sekularac couldn’t win his final all-in as Shorr’s four-bet had put him at risk when he called with king-queen. Shorr held ace-jack and picked up the gutshot to a Broadway on the flop and hit it on the turn. It also gave Sekularac outs to a full house as he turned two pair, but he bricked the river as the deuce fell to end his run. After an unscheduled break, the players started the heads-up with pretty similar stacks. Shorr was ahead with 102 big blinds while Strelitz had 97. Even though the chips were going back and forth at the beginning, soon Strelitz took over the lead and kept increasing it.

Shorr ended up shoving it all in for his last 16 big blinds when Strelitz had raised and was called. Shorr held queen-four and was up against the pocket tens of Strelitz. Shorr found a four on the flop but no further help came as he was eliminated in 2nd place for his third-biggest WSOP cash ever on his fourteenth WSOP final table. The two players congratulated each other with their results. Strelitz said to Shannon that he ran pretty well.

“It was insane how good I ran. I barely had to bluff. I just kept getting good hand over good hand.” Strelitz said at the end.

Hand #144: Strelitz raised to 200,000 from the button and Shorr shoved for 1,280,000. Strelitz quickly called.

Shannon Shorr: {q-Clubs}{4-Clubs}
Daniel Strelitz {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}

The flop came {4-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} for Shorr to find a pair of fours but still in need of help.

The turn was the {8-Hearts} which didn't change the situation. Only another four or queen would save Shorr's tournament life but he bricked the river when the {3-Diamonds} came to complete the board.

Shorr finished in 2nd place for $273,416 which is also his third WSOP cash this summer and his 80th overall in all the WSOP tournaments. Strelitz takes first place for $442,385 and his first WSOP gold bracelet.

Hand #102: Daniel Strelitz raised to 120,000 from the button and Ognjen Sekularac three-bet to 490,000 in the small blind. Shorr thought for a while in the big blind before announcing that he was all in. That got a quick fold from Strelitz, putting Sekularac to a decision for his tournament life. The Serbian took his time before calling to put his tournament life at stake.

Sekularac {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}
Shorr {a-Spades}{j-Clubs}

The flop came {10-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{k-Spades} to give Sekularac a pair but it also gave Shorr outs, and the turn was the devastating {q-Hearts} to give Shorr Broadway and put Sekularac in deep trouble, only having outs to a full house on the river.

The river fell a harmless {2-Clubs} to dash the Serbian's hope of winning the WSOP bracelet and send us heads-up for the title, with Shannon Shorr, the overnight chip leader, just marginally ahead of Daniel Strelitz. Both men have powered through the field in impressive fashion.

Ali Imsirovic

Hand #97: Ognjen Sekularac raised to 130,000 from under the gun and Daniel Strelitz three-bet to 500,000 from the small blind. Ali Imsirovic was sitting in the big blind and decided to shove for his last 555,000. Sekularac called and so did Strelitz.

The flop came {7-Spades}{10-Clubs}{3-Hearts} and Strelitz continued with a bet of 350,000 for Sekularac to fold and Imsirovic had been isolated.

Ali Imsirovic: {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}
Daniel Strelitz: {k-Spades}{10-Diamonds}

Strelitz had flopped top pair, so Imsirovic needed another nine or running cards to stay alive.

The turn was the {7-Hearts} which paired the board up but didn't change the situation and neither did the {a-Hearts} on the river as the Bosnian 2018 Breakout Player of the Year at the recent Global Poker Awards was sent to the payout desk in fourth place to pick up $129,018.

The turn was the {j-Clubs}, Imsirovic took over the lead by betting 300,000 and Sekularac called. The river completed the board with the {8-Diamonds}, on which they both checked. Imsirovic held {a-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for Sekularac to scoop the pot with {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}.

Hand #87: Shannon Shorr got a walk.

Hand #88: Daniel Strelitz's turn to get a walk.

Shorr, Ho, Imsirovic and Co. Battle for First Bracelet in Event 11: $5,000 No Limit Hold'em

Maria Ho
Maria Ho

It’s time to give out a WSOP bracelet in Event 11: $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em! Six hopefuls will be vying for the most coveted piece of jewelry in poker as well as the $442,385 first-place prize.

This bracelet will be particularly desired as some of the most prominent names in the game without a bracelet make up the six remaining players. Shannon Shorr enters today as one of those who will be looking to add a WSOP bracelet to his list of career achievements. His 72 WSOP cashes totaling over 2 million in earnings make him one of the most distinguished players to not have a bracelet to his name. He holds a significant chip advantage, with nearly half of the chips in play residing in his stack and triple the amount of the next closest stack.

Maria Ho will also be challenging for an elusive first WSOP bracelet. One of the most well known players in the game, she has come close in the last few years with four WSOP final tables to her name.

Looking to spoil the attempts of Shorr and Ho and looking to add another notch to his ever-increasing poker resume is one of the most in-form players in the world, Ali Imsirovic. The high roller extraordinaire has had an incredible 2019 already and winning a WSOP bracelet would turn up his hot year to blistering levels.

Another well known player at the table who has come very close in recent years to a bracelet is Daniel Strelitz, who has a 2nd place and 3rd place finish on his resume along with winnings that eclipse 1 million.

All of Serbia will be rooting for Ognjen Sekularac as he will be looking to win not only his first bracelet, but also be the very first bracelet won by a player representing that country.

Rounding out the superb six is Russia native Arsenii Karmatckii, who is making his first WSOP final table after coming close in 2018 with a 10th place finish. He has over 1 million in career poker earnings and a bracelet today would only increase his standing among the most successful players from Russia.

With all these players and storylines returning to the felt, it's guaranteed that the final six will offer some tremendous chip flinging battles. The PokerNews live reporting team will be on the ground, providing hand-for-hand updates starting at 12 p.m. local time. Make sure to check in to see the climax of one of the toughest and most prestigious events on the WSOP schedule.
