Welcome to Day 3 of $10,000 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship

Jesse Martin
Jesse Martin

Two days are in the books in Event #9: $10,000 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship, with the field set to play down to a final table of six today on Day 3.

The 169 entries have been trimmed down to just 22, all of whom have their eyes on the $417,921 first-place prize. The player who has gotten closest to amassing all of the chips at this point is three-time bracelet winner Eli Elezra. Elezra has shown off his chops in 2-7 triple draw and two stud variants in the past, but he has yet to capture gold in Omaha hi-lo. He has a leading stack of 858,000 going into the penultimate day.

However, as should be expected in any $10K championship, plenty of stiff competition remains. Jesse Martin, Chris Bjorin, Paul Volpe and Rob Mizrachi are among the bracelet winners remaining in the field.

Another still in the hunt is fan favorite Mike "The Mouth" Matusow. Though he totes one of the shortest stacks at present, he's sure to keep things lively at the table, and if he builds up some momentum, it could be a fun ride for everyone.

Matusow's 234,000 still represents about 10 big bets heading to 12,000/24,000 limits, and that's indicative of how the tournament remains fairly deep. The average stack is more than 15 big bets, which means there's plenty of play left for nearly everyone in the field.

The plan today is to play out one-hour levels until just six remain to play on the live streaming table tomorrow. Keep an eye here on PokerNews to see who those six will be.

Miaso Scoops Bjorin on the First Hand

Nível 21 : 12,000/24,000, 0 ante

Chris Bjorin raised on the button and Kyle Miaso called from the big blind.

The flop came down {A-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{4-Spades} and Miaso checked over to Bjorin who bet. Miaso then check-raised and Bjorin called.

On the {8-Clubs} turn, Miaso led and Bjorin called. Miaso led again on the {A-Clubs} river and Bjorin called again.

"Nut, second," Miaso said. He showed his {A-Hearts}{8-Spades}{2-Clubs}{5-Clubs} for a full house and the second best low. Bjorin looked at his hand for a few seconds before pitching it into the muck and Miaso took down the pot.

Pumping Up the Chip Leader

Nível 21 : 12,000/24,000, 0 ante

Eli Elezra defended big blind against an Adam Coats under-the-gun raise. Elezra check-called after the {2-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{9-Spades} flop, then both players checked the {6-Spades} turn. On the {3-Diamonds} river, Elezra bet.

"Okay," Coats said with a sigh. "Pumping up the chip leader."

"Nut-nut, I think," Elezra said, showing {a-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}.

Of course it wasn't quite that, but his nut low with a straight was good for the whole pot.

Gronning Lets Go on the River

Nível 21 : 12,000/24,000, 0 ante

Steve Chanthabouasy opened from the cutoff and found resistance from Lars Gronning in the small blind when Gronning raised. Action folded back to Chanthabouasy who raised again, and Gronning just called.

The flop was {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} and Gronning checked then called a bet from Chanthabouasy. The turn was the {4-Clubs} and Gronning checked again. Chanthabouasy bet again and Gronning called once more.

On the {10-Spades} river, Gronning checked for a third time and Chanthabouasy bet again. This time Gronning pitched his hand away. Chanthabouasy flashed his cards behind him to no one in particular, but didn't reveal his holdings to the table.

Coats Quarters Zhukov

Nível 21 : 12,000/24,000, 0 ante

Adam Coats opened with a raise and was called by Talon White in the hijack seat and Viacheslav Zhukov in the small blind.

The flop was {6-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{2-Spades} and action checked over to White who put out a bet. Zhukov called before Coats put in a raise. White and Zhukov both called.

On the {7-Hearts} turn, action checked to Coats who bet again. White folded while Zhukov tagged along.

The river was the {8-Hearts} and Zhukov check-called one more bet. Coats showed {A-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{9-Spades} for a straight and the nut low while Zhukov could only produce {A-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} for the nut low as well. Coats collected three-quarters of the pot while Zhukov dropped to just over 200,000.

Bohlman Gets Half

Nível 21 : 12,000/24,000, 0 ante
Scott Bohlman
Scott Bohlman

The board read {a-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} and action went nuts between three players. Steve Chanthabouasy bet, Rob Mizrachi raised, and Scott Bohlman tanked awhile from the small blind before calling. Chanthabouasy raised again, Mizrachi called, and Bohlman raised. Chanthabouasy capped it and Bohlman was all in.

The river brought the {k-Hearts} and Chanthabouasy check-called.

Mizrachi held {7-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{3-Hearts} for a wheel and a flush, but Chanthabouasy matched his wheel with {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{5-Spades}{3-Spades} and Bohlman had {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} for aces full on the high half. He took half of the pot while the others chopped the rest.
