Action of the Day

The day started off quick with a lot of bust outs. A couple of the new entrants that decided to give it a go were busted before the second level of the day. Fedor Holz and James Obst both entered for a last shot at a $10,000 championship title and a bracelet, but both were unable to survive the first level.

Another of the late arrivals who fared much better was Martin Zamani, who ended up bagging the second biggest chip stack behind Volpe. Others that didn’t make it to the money include Daniel Negreanu, Liv Boeree, Ivan Luca, Erik Seidel, Stephen Chidwick and Sam Soverel.

Players that did end up making the money but didn’t make it through to Day 3 include Jeff Gross (50th - $14,916), Jason Koon (49th - $14,916), Ryan Riess (42nd - $16,911), Martin Jacobson (39th - $16,911), Michael Gathy (34th - $18,982) and Dominik Nitsche (20th - $26,424).

Dan Smith almost made it through to Day 3, but in the final hand of the day, he busted against Romain Lewis to finish in 19th place for $26,424. Jordan Cristos also busted in the final hand of the day against Deeb after losing everything but 2,000 to Sam Greenwood, with Cristos taking home $32,700 for 18th place.

Deeb is at this moment in second place in the WSOP Player of the Year race and made Day 3 with 1,610,000 chips after having a good ending to his day by winning a flip with sevens against ace-king. The US player already secured some points for the leaderboard but is also looking to add another WSOP bracelet to his collection after winning the $25,000 Pot-Limit Omaha earlier this summer.

Day 3 will start at 2pm with 17 players remaining and blinds/ante recommencing at 10,000/20,000 with the ante of 20,000. PokerNews will be there from the start until we crown another WSOP bracelet winner.

Jacobson to the Rail With Pocket Aces

Nível 17 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Martin Jacobson
Martin Jacobson

There was well over 120,000 in the middle already and the flop was {9-Clubs}{6-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}. Martin Jacobson bet 95,000 after Sam Greenwood had checked to him. Greenwood called to see the turn.

The turn was the {3-Hearts} and Greenwood checked to Jacobson again. After a short while, Jacobson threw in a pile of chips totaling 165,000. Greenwood took his time to think things through before he called again.

The river was the {3-Diamonds} and Greenwood checked for the third time to Jacobson. This time all of Jacobson's chips were wagered and Greenwood called within a second, immediately tabling {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} for a full house.

Jacobson opened up {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs} and said goodbye to the table, wishing them good luck.

Mizrachi Bursts the Bubble, Mandic Eliminated

Nível 16 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Michael Mizrachi
Michael Mizrachi

The board already read {6-Hearts}{4-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} and Goran Mandic had checked to Michael Mizrachi. Mizrachi had bet 45,000 and Mandic called to see the {Q-Spades} river card complete the board.

The pot had well over 100,000 in it and Mandic checked to Mizrachi and the latter moved all in for effectively 190,000.

"That's how you put the pressure on. You're calling 95% of the time? How much are you at now?"

Mandic responded with "98" and he thought about it some more.

"Let me know when it's 100%"

After the hand at the other table finished Mandic called and he saw that he was no good with {J-Spades}{J-Hearts} against the {7-Hearts}{5-Hearts} of Mizrachi.

Mizrachi chips up nice on the bubble and Mandic is the last player walking away without any money.

Koon Eliminates Kakhmazov

Nível 15 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Jason Koon
Jason Koon

Jason Koon three-bet preflop and picked up two callers. On the {10-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{3-Clubs} flop, Nadar Kakhmazov check-shoved for 200,000 into a bet of 25,000 by Koon and the latter called.

Nadar: {A-Spades}{10-Spades}
Jason Koon: {K-Clubs}{10-Clubs}

The {8-Clubs} turn and {J-Clubs} river completed a back door flush for Koon, and he sent Kakhmazov to the rail.

Holz Can't Escape Icebox Against Givens

Nível 12 : 1,200/2,400, 2,400 ante
Will Givens
Will Givens

On a completed board of {2-}{3-}{6-}{4-}{10-}, small blind Fedor Holz was deep in the tank against big blind Will Givens, who had set him in for his last 18,000.

"This is a dream come true," Givens said, bobbing his head to whatever beats ran through his headpones. "To put you in the icebox."

Holz chuckled.

"Weird hand," he said.

"Gotta be to put you in the icebox."

That got some laughs from the table and Holz continued to think. Moments later, he grabbed all of his chips and put them in. Givens showed {a-}{10-} for top pair on the river, having gotten there against Holz's {7-}{6-}.

"Dream come true!" Givens said, shooting out of his chair and clapping before shaking hands with the busted Holz.

Negranu Doubles Through Metaal

Nível 11 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Daniel Negreanu in a previous event
Daniel Negreanu in a previous event

What is a great start for Daniel Negreanu is a bad start for Govert Metaal.

With 6,000 in the pot, Metaal checked to Negreanu on the {3-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} board. Negreanu checked behind.

The turn was the {8-Spades} and Metaal lead out with a bet of 2,500. Negreanu decided to raise it up to 7,500 and that made Metaal think about his decision. The eventual outcome of Metaal's thinking was a three-bet to 22,500. Negreanu pushed all in for a total of 44,800 and Metaal called.

Govert Metaal: {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}
Daniel Negreanu: {5-Hearts}{4-Spades}

The river card was the {7-Diamonds} and that didn't give Metaal the flush to eliminate Negreanu and the leader on the all time money list doubled up in one of the first hands of the day.
