Kaneoya Eyes Brazil's #5, Leads THE GIANT Final Table

Nível 35 : 500,000/1,000,000, 150,000 ante
Renato Kaneoya

The massive field of 8,920 entries has been reduced down to the last nine contenders in the $365 THE GIANT event which saw 527 players come back for Day 2. Most of the returning players survived with very short stacks and the field quickly plummeted down to a third after two levels of play. The pace seemed to never stop during the day and the busted players kept flooding the area at the payout desks.

The trend continued even on the final two tables, mainly thanks to huge surges of Renato Kaneoya and Alexander Lakhov. Kaneyoa pushed himself atop of the leaderboard when he peeled aces on the button, facing a raise and a three-bet all in from Amy Schwarz. He held against her nines and then continued torturing his opposition with a big stack.

With the average stack still very shallow, the vast majority of pots culminated in preflop contests and Kaneoya was the beneficiary. He was lucky enough to dispatch Carl DiVeglia III after shoving with four-high to bink two pair versus his ace-king.

In the meantime, Alexander Lakhov took care of Joel Gossett and Gregory Kolo on the other table and established himself among the favorites for the final table.

The 10-handed unofficial final table lasted for a few orbits with Luis Vazquez doubling his aces against Jordan Bamford's ace-queen. Vazquez then finished Bamford off to take the third place on the leaderboard.

Kaneoya (56,100,000), Vazquez (42,700,000) and Lakhov (38,300,000) are the only three players on the north side of the average mark with all other remaining players having around 20 big blinds or fewer.

That makes for an interesting setup ahead of the final table with $250,000 and the elusive bracelet awaiting the champion. A little bit of help with a solid card distribution can see any of the players quickly catapult their stacks to the top. On the other side, the ICM factor may cause some mayhem and a war of attrition between potential micro stacks.

With all of that taken into account, THE GIANT final table will surely be one worth to follow so make sure to come back Sunday, July 1, at 2 p.m. for the live updates as the PokerNews live reporting will bring a hand-for-hand coverage to your couch.

Jordan Bamford Eliminated in 10th Place ($18,947)

Nível 35 : 500,000/1,000,000, 150,000 ante
Jordan Bamford
Jordan Bamford

Luis Vazquez opened under the gun and Jordan Bamford three-bet shoved on the button. Vazquez called off.

Bamford: {K-Spades}{J-Hearts}
Vazquez: {A-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}

The flop came {K-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{2-Clubs} and Bamford pulled ahead.

"Hold!" Bamford shouted.

But the {A-Hearts} landed on the turn.

"I suppose I spoke to early," Bamford said.

The {4-Diamonds} river didn't rescue him and he bubbled the official final table. The final nine players bagged their chips with just under seven minutes left to play in the level.

Carl DiVeglia III

Big stack Renato Kaneoya raised all in out of the small blind and big blind Carl DiVeglia III peeled a monster and quickly called off.

Kaneoya: {4-Spades}{3-Spades}
DiVeglia III: {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}

Kaneoya, however, hit two pair on the cruel board of {10-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{3-Hearts} eliminated DiVeglia III short of the final table.

"It's stupid," DiVeglia said on his way out.

Gregory Kolo Eliminated in 12th Place ($18,947)

Gregory Kolo

Gregory Kolo moved all in from the button for his last 12,000,000. Alexander Lakhov was in the big blind and called.

Gregory Kolo: {k-Diamonds}{9-Spades}
Alexander Lakhov: {a-Spades}{q-Hearts}

The flop was a good one for a Kolo, flopping a pair on {6-Spades}{k-Clubs}{10-Spades}. The turn was the {2-Clubs} but the river {j-Spades} completed Lakhov's gutshot straight draw.

"Flush is good?" said Lakhov, peering towards the board but seeing no flush. "Ok, straight is ok."

Kolo takes home $18,947 for his 12th place payout.

Alexander Lakhov raised from under the gun and Joel Gossett called all in from the big blind.

"I've been getting eight-high all day," he said showing {8-Clubs}{3-Spades}, "It must be a sign."

Lakhov showed {q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}.

The board ran out {5-Spades}{a-Clubs}{7-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} with the ten on the river sealing the elimination for Lakhov.

Amy Schwarz Eliminated in 14th Place ($14,789)

Amy Schwarz

Jordan Bamford min-raised under the gun and Amy Schwarz moved all in for 8,100,000. Renato Kaneoya woke up with a big hand on the button and cold-called, prompting a big sigh from Bamford. Bamford said he had a huge hand as well but he was able to let it go.

Schwarz: {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}
Kaneoya: {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}

Schwarz ran into bullets and the {4-Spades}{4-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{5-Hearts} board didn't help her. The last woman in the tournament finished in 14th place. Kaneyoa is now the chip leader with over 40 million.

James Duff Eliminated in 16th Place ($11,581)

Nível 34 : 400,000/800,000, 100,000 ante
James Duff
James Duff

James Duff suffered a huge bad beat when his {A-}{9-} couldn't beat {K-}{9-} of Paul Bibergal who hit his three-outer on the river.

Duff was down to crumbs and he couldn't recover. On his final hand, he jammed 1,200,000 from the second position and Daniel Fuhs reshoved in the hijack.

Duff: {Q-Spades}{10-Spades}
Fuhs: {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}

Duff was almost finished on the {A-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{8-Clubs} flop and the {3-Spades} turn definitely busted him from the tournament. The {8-Hearts} river was a formality.

Mathieu Philbert
Mathieu Philbert

Mathieu Philbert tossed in his last 1,200,000 from the second position and Alexander Lakhov reshoved on the button. The situation got complicated for Lakhov as Matthew Smith quickly slid in all his chips out of the big blind.

Philbert: {6-Clubs}{3-Clubs}
Lakhov: {A-Spades}{10-Diamonds}
Smith: {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}

Fortunately for Lakhov, the board double paired and he chopped Philbert's chips with Smith on the {2-Spades}{7-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{K-Spades} board.

Mark Frimodt Eliminated in 18th Place ($11,581)

Nível 34 : 400,000/800,000, 100,000 ante
Mark Frimodt
Mark Frimodt

Kevin Rines moved all in for around 7 million on the button and Mark Frimodt called in the big blind. Rines was slightly behind with {K-Diamonds}{J-Spades} against {A-Spades}{7-Hearts} but the {K-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{8-Hearts} runout saved his tournament run. Rines doubled and Frimodt was crippled, dropping down to below 1,000,000.

The next hand saw the action fold around to Frimodt who put his 900,000 in play and Luis Vazquez threw in the extra 100,000-chip to call.

Frimodt: {4-Clubs}{3-Spades}
Vazquez: {Q-Clubs}{J-Spades}

The {8-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} board was the last one Frimodt would see in the tournament as the queen on the river eliminated him in 18th place.

Vidojkovic's Downfall Completed

Nível 33 : 300,000/600,000, 100,000 ante
Stefan Vidojkovic
Stefan Vidojkovic

Stefan Vidojkovic was among the tournament chip leaders coming to the final three tables but a streak of bad results saw him bust in 22nd place.

Following a big pot he lost against James Duff as we reported below, Vidojkovic doubled Carl DiVeglia III for just under 4 million. DiVeglia III made Broadway with {A-Spades}{Q-Spades} on {J-Spades}{K-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} and Vidojkovic's hand was mucked by the time we arrived.

Vidojkovic was down to crumbs and he put his last 1,175,000 in play when he was in big blind, following Mark Frimodt's under-the-gun-raise to 900,000 and Jordan Perrin's flat-call in the hijack. Both players called the change and Perrin then fired 2,000,000 on the {9-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} flop, getting rid of Frimodt.

Vidojkovic: {A-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}
Perrin: {6-Spades}{6-Hearts}

Perrin hit the bottom set but Vidojkovic still had a decent shot with an open-ender and a backdoor flush draw. The {A-Clubs} turn and {A-Hearts} river gave him trips but it wasn't enough and Vidojkovic took a picture of the board and hole cards before exiting the tournament area.
