Jonathan Dimmig Wins the Millionaire Maker Event #8

Nível 37 : 250,000/500,000, 50,000 ante
Event 08 Champion Jonathan Dimmig
Event 08 Champion Jonathan Dimmig

The first millionaire of the 2014 World Series of Poker 2014 has been crowned as Jonathan Dimmig emerged victorious to "bring a championship to Buffalo." In the post-tournament interview with WSOP Media Director Nolan Dalla, Dimmig admitted to having no idea what the future has in store for him. "But I hope it is a sign of good things to come and will play a few more events here at the WSOP," he said.

Dimmig's plan for Day 1 was simply to “get through” and he “had the best day of my life” on Day 2. He considered the final table as a “once in a lifetime experience” and would “never sit back and wait” just to move up in the payouts.

About a year and a half ago Dimmig quit his full-time job to take on poker after realizing that he could make more through poker even as a part time job. Since then and has played “maybe eight or nine” tournaments at the WSOP since moving to Las Vegas. Last year he finished seventh in a daily $325 deep stack after going through a huge field and was disappointed with the final result. He has nothing to be disappointed about tonight after outlasting the second largest live tournament field in poker history.

Dimmig wasn't among the chip leaders going into the final table, Stephen Graner held an almost 3-to-1 lead over each of his opponents when level 29 kicked off at blinds 40,000-80,000 with an ante of 10,000.

Graner lost the lead in the third hand of play on after trying to push James Duke out of a pot but the latter called with pocket kings and held up. The first player to hit the rail was Maurice Hawkins in hand #19 after getting it in preflop with {Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} against the {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} of Graner and the {K-Clubs} on the flop immediately shut down all hopes of a double up.

Andrew Dick followed in eight place after he was unable to improve with {K-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} against the {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} of Dimmig in hand #23. Jason Johnson started the final table as shortest stack and managed to climb two payout spots before bowing out in seventh place. The fast paced action continued and shortly after, start-of-the-day chip leader Stephen Graner was eliminated in sixth place. He rivered a straight with {5-Clubs}{5-Spades} but Jonathan Dimmig had turned the higher straight with {8-Clubs}{9-Clubs} and jumped into the lead.

Down to five players, more than three hours passed without elimination and it was Bradley Anderson, who took fifth place for $355,913. He flopped top pair with {A-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} in hand #94 but James Duke spiked middle set with pocket queens and the runner runner miracle never happened. The only non American on the final table, Andrew Teng, finished in fourth place after losing a flip with {Q-Clubs}{9-Clubs} against {2-Spades}{2-Clubs} in hand #139.

Three handed play started very passive and several double ups occurred before Andrew Duke was sent to the rail in third place. He was left short stacked after previous confrontations and flopped top pair after a preflop all in with {Q-Spades}{8-Diamonds} in hand #184, but Dimmig turned the higher pair with {A-Hearts}{10-Spades}. Heads-Up play started with a bang in the first hand as Dimmig doubled up through Jeffrey Coburn and only five hands later the two saw the {3-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop. Dimmig moved all in with {6-Hearts}{2-Hearts} and Coburn called short stacked with {K-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}, the {10-Clubs} turn and {4-Diamonds} river blanked and the record-breaking Millionaire Maker with stunning 7,977 entries had crowned its winner.

Jeffrey Coburn Eliminated in 2nd Place ($815,963)

Nível 37 : 250,000/500,000, 50,000 ante
Jeffrey Coburn
Jeffrey Coburn

Hand #188: Jonathan Dimmig keeps up the pressure. After a checked through {Q-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{K-Hearts} flop and a bet on the {8-Spades} turn, he moved all in after the {4-Clubs} river and enforced a fold from Jeffrey Coburn.

Hand #189: Dimmig moved all in and that won the pot.

Hand #190: Coburn raised to 1.5 million and Dimmig called. They both saw the {3-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop and Dimmig moved all in once again. Coburn didn’t have much left and made the call!

Coburn: {K-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}
Dimmig: {6-Hearts}{2-Hearts}

Dimmig was two card away from becoming the first millionaire at the WSOP 2014 and the {10-Clubs} turn was no threat either. One more card to go. And it was the {4-Diamonds}, putting an end to the tournament and generating a loud cheer from the rail of Jonathan Dimmig. “LET’S GO BUFFALO” is all she said.

James Duke Eliminated in 3rd Place ($614,368)

James Duke

Hand #184: James Duke moved all in first to act and was called by Jonathan Dimmig. It was for a total of 3.1 million and the hands were placed face up in the middle for all to see:

Duke: {Q-Spades}{8-Diamonds}
Dimmig: {A-Hearts}{10-Spades}

The flop came {8-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} and Duke took the lead with a pair of eights. The turn, however, catapulted Dimmig into the lead with the {10-Hearts}. The river was the {6-Hearts} and Duke was eliminated in 3rd place. Dimmig's rail let out a "let's go Buffalo" chant as he stacked the chips.

Andrew Teng Eliminated in 4th Place ($465,972)

Nível 35 : 150,000/300,000, 50,000 ante
Andrew Teng
Andrew Teng

Hand #137: Andrew Teng moved all in for the second hand in a row and picked up the blinds and antes.

Hand #138: Jonathan Dimmig opened for 600,000 and Jeff Coburn reraised to 1.6 million. Dimmig called the additional million. The dealer spread a flop of {Q-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{4-Clubs} and both players checked.

The turn was the {9-Hearts} and Dimmig led out for 1.2 million. Coburn peeked back at his cards and moved all in for an additional 3.325 million. Dimmig glanced over at his opponent, but Coburn sat there motionless, looking straight ahead. Dimmig looked back at his cards one last time and released his hand with a smile.

Hand #139: Teng moved all in first to act from the small blind with {Q-Clubs}{9-Clubs} and was called by Dimmig out of the big blind with {2-Clubs}{2-Spades}.

The flop came {Q-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} to move Teng into the lead and his rail let out a roar of approval.

The turn was the {2-Diamonds} and now it was Dimmig's rail whooping it up as Teng was now drawing dead. The river was a meaningless {K-Diamonds} and they counted down the two stacks. Dimmig had 6.3 million behind which covered Teng by approximately one big blind.

The likeable pro from London in the UK was eliminated in 4th place, collecting $465,972 for his outstanding four days of play.

Bradley Anderson is eliminated in 5th place
Bradley Anderson is eliminated in 5th place

Hand #93: Jonathan Dimmig moved all in for approximately two million and was quickly called by Bradley Anderson. Anderson had Dimmig in bad shape as he held {A-Spades}{K-Hearts} to Dimmig's {K-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}. The flop changed all that, however, as it came {J-Spades}{8-Spades}{3-Hearts}. The turn was the {7-Clubs} and the river was the {4-Diamonds} and Dimmig scored a much needed double up.

Hand #94: Anderson limped in from the button and James Duke raised it up to 1.0 million from the small blind. Anderson called and the dealer put out a flop of {A-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}. Duke led out for another million and Bradley announced that he was all in. James snap-called and for good reason as he had {Q-Spades}{Q-Hearts}. Anderson had flopped top pair with his {A-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}, but needed a miracle to stay alive.

The {4-Spades} gave Duke a full house. This also gave Anderson some hope, as any ace would give him a better full house. It was not to be, however, as the river was the {5-Clubs} and Anderson is eliminated in shocking fashion after being the commanding chip leader mere moments ago. Its position has now been undertook by Duke.

Hand #35: Stephen Graner opened for 250,000. Jonathan Dimmig called from the small blind and Jeff Coburn called from the big blind.

The flop came {A-Hearts}{8-Spades}{6-Clubs} and Dimmig and Coburn both checked. Graner bet 335,000 and Dimmig called. Coburn folded. The turn was the {8-Hearts} and both players checked. The turn was the {7-Diamonds}. Dimmig led out and Graner quickly folded.

Hand #36: Dimmig opened from the button to 250,000. Graner called from the big blind.

The flop came {8-Clubs}{4-Spades}{3-Hearts}. Graner checked and Dimmig checked behind. The turn was the {A-Clubs} and Graner checked again. Dimmig bet 305,000 and Graner called.

The river was the {3-Diamonds} and Graner checked a third time and Dimmig checked behind. Graner showed {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} and Dimmig mucked to give Graner the pot.

Hand #37: Jonathan Dimmig opened to 250,000. Stephen Graner called from the small blind making it the third hand in a row the two had tangled in.

The flop came {10-Spades}{7-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} and Graner checked. Dimmig bet 260,000 and Graner called. The turn was the {6-Spades} and Graner tapped the table. Dimmig fired another bet, this time for 485,000. Graner again called.

The river was the {3-Clubs} and Graner checked for a third time. Dimmig fired a third bullet, this time making it 1.15 million. Graner sprung into action making it 2.635 million to go. Dimmig took about thirty seconds before announcing that he was all in.

Graner did not call right away, making it clear that he did not have the nuts. He looked carefully at the board while Dimmig sat calmly in his seat. After approximately a minute of thinking, Graner called. He immediately regretted that decision when Dimmig turned over his hand - the {9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}. Graner had rivered a straight with {5-Clubs}{5-Spades} but it was not good enough, and he is eliminated in disappointing fashion after coming in with a commanding chip lead.

The turn was the {2-Spades} and Graner again checked. Anderson followed suit and tapped the table as well.

Dimmig: {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

Dick would need to improve to stay alive. The flop would not do the deed for him as it came {7-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}. The turn card, {J-Clubs}, changed nothing. The river was the {Q-Clubs} and Dick stood up to shake the remaining players' hands and wish them luck.
