Final Day of Event #37 Sees 11 Remain To Chase Bracelet

Marcel Vonk returns as chip leader
Marcel Vonk returns as chip leader

On the second day of the 2014 World Series of Poker Event #37: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha, 113 players returned to the tables in the Amazon room. After 10 levels of play, the field would be reduced to only 11 with Marcel Vonk (604,000) bagged up the most chips. Vonk is the only one of those left who has won a WSOP event before, having claimed a bracelet in a $1,000 NLHE event in 2010.

The Dutchman is facing tough competition with Day 2 chip leader Brandon Paster (588,000), Galen Hall (553,000), Kevin Saul (506,000), and AP Phahurat (162,000) among those challenging him today.

Gabriel Nassif is also part of the final group, with the Frenchman looking for his second WSOP final table in a row after finishing eighth in Event #33: $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em then immediately joining this competition for yet another deep run.

All players have $14,908 guaranteed for their efforts thus far while the elusive golden bracelet as well as the first-place payout of $264,400 are still up for grabs. Action resumes at 1 p.m. Las Vegas time with blinds at 6,000-12,000.

Once we are down to 10, the two tables will be combined for the unofficial final table. The PokerNews live reporting will keep you up-to-date about all key hands including hand-for-hand coverage once the official final table begins, at which point the live stream on a five-minute delay will begin on WSOP.com.

Back soon for the exciting finale of Event #37!

Humphrey Gets First Blood

Nível 21 : 6,000/12,000, 0 ante

Matt Humphrey opened for 27,000 and was called by Galen Hall out of the big blind. The flop came {K-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} and Hall check-called a 30,000 bet from Humphrey. The turn was the {Q-Clubs} and Hall check-called an 86,000 bet from Humphrey. The river was the {2-Spades} and both players checked.

"You win," said Hall, and Humphrey tabled {Q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} for two pair, queens and eights. Hall flashed his cards and it looked like he had a wrap that didn't get there.

Nassif Rivers Straight

Nível 21 : 6,000/12,000, 0 ante

Dapreesch Scates limped from early position, Matthew Dames called from the small blind, and Gabriel Nassif checked his option in the big blind. On the {4-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} flop, it checked to Scates who continued for 16,000 and only Nassif called. Both then checked the {9-Diamonds} on the turn.

The {6-Spades} river completed the board and this time the Frenchman Nassif led for 50,000. Scates tanked for a while before making the call, and Nassif turned over {8-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{7-Spades}{3-Spades} for the nine-high straight to scoop the pot.

Saul Likes the River

Nível 21 : 6,000/12,000, 0 ante

Kevin Saul opened from the cutoff to 24,000 and Matthew Humphrey in the small blind and Dmitrii Valouev in the big blind both called. The flop came {A-Spades}{10-Hearts}{5-Clubs} and all three players checked. On the {10-Clubs} turn it was checked to Saul who bet 34,000. Only Humphrey called leading to Saul saying "now he really wants me to fight for this pot."

The river was the {10-Diamonds} and Humphrey checked again to Saul who made a large bet of 118,000 this time. "Unbelievable," said Humphrey as he started talking to himself. "I think you have it. You look like you have it so bad. Probably wrong."

Humphrey counted out the call but talked himself out of it and mucked himself. "Flat with aces again," asked Saul, adding "that seemed like a good river."

AP Phahurat

We didn't catch the action, but AP Phahurat was eliminated at the hands of Marcel Vonk after Vonk would hit a flush with his {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{9-Clubs}{5-Spades}. Phahurat was eliminated in 11th place and they are now combining to a final table of ten. We'll have the new seat draw and chip counts shortly.
