Moving Day at WSOP's Event #26

Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

Welcome to Day 2 of Event #26: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em. On Day 1 we saw 1,594 entries narrowed to 178 by day's end, just seven away from the money.

Mark Dube was the overnight chip leader, stacked at 160,300. Dan Smith (132,200) is right on his heels, thanks to a massive double in the night's final level of play. Other notables looking to cruise into the money and beyond are Ryan Welch (101,000), Mike McDonald (81,900), and Scott Clements (75,100). Also, we should not forget about Phil Hellmuth who bagged 34,600. We will see early in play today if Hellmuth can add to his record 102 WSOP cashes.

While golf's U.S. Open and the World Cup are both just starting today, it's "moving day" in Event #26 and we will keep our eyes on the amateurs with a dream, as well as the pros looking to increase their clout in the poker world. Between "fores" and "gooooaaaaaaalllls," be sure to tune in for some "check-raises" and "all ins" from some of the world's best on the felt.

PokerNews' Live Reporting Team will be on hand to bring you Day 2 action starting at 1 p.m. local time today, so come back then as we find out together who makes the final day of Event #26.

The Bubble Approaches

Nível 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

The players are very close to the money with 171 places paying out, so we are expecting a cautious start from some of the short stacks as they wait for big cards or hope to creep into the money, while the bigger stacks exert pressure and use the approaching bubble to chip up where they can.

It’s sure to be a tense and dramatic first level here.

Ciaffone Joins Early Exits

Nível 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

A few players have fallen already and Bob Ciaffone was one of them. He raised from early position and got called by the big blind Hyuck Kwon. They got it in on a {7-Spades}{a-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} flop and Ciaffone held {a-Spades}{10-Hearts} but was out-pipped by the {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades} of Kwon. The turn {9-Spades} and river {k-Hearts} then saw Ciaffone reduced to 5,500.

Ciaffone put it all in on the next hand holding {7-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} and was looked up by the big blind Ryan Welch with {9-Spades}{3-Hearts} who could certainly afford it. The cards ran out {8-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{9-Clubs}. Ciaffone had flopped a pair, but the river spelled the end for him and players are one step closer to the money.

Minjarez Survives the Bubble

Nível 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Travell Thomas opened the action for 2,600, got a caller on the button and then short stack John Minjarez in the small blind went in the tank. He only had 3,200 more behind and he was potentially looking at a zero return on his buy-in if he lost.

Minjarez eventually made the call ad did the big blind so he was up against three players hoping to win the hand and the odds looked stacked against him.

The board ran out {7-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} and it was checked to the river. Minjarez had {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} and it held up giving him a quadruple up and a ticket to the money.

Bolotin Out, Bubble Bursts

Nível 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Kunal Patel opened from under the gun and it folded round to Alex Bolotin in the big blind who moved all in for not much more. Patel made the call.

Bolotin: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
Patel: {j-Diamonds}{j-Spades}

The board ran out {9-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}. Bolotin couldn’t hit and all of the remaining players are in the money.

Failla Outflopped

Nível 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

We walked up to a board of {j-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{7-Spades}. Soi Nguyen bet 2,300 and Will Failla raised to 6,000. Nguyen then three-bet to 13,500 and Failla thought for a moment before making the call.

"I got the nuts," said Nguyen as he rolled over the {j-Spades}{9-Spades}. Failla showed the inferior {j-Clubs}{10-Clubs} and Nguyen takes a nice one.
