Dan Hirleman Leads the Way Heading Into Day 3

Nível 20 : 8,000/16,000, 0 ante
Dan Hirleman
Dan Hirleman

Today saw Dan Hirleman emerge at the top of the chip counts at the end of Day 2 of Event #14: $1,500 Limit Omaha Hi-Low with 353,000 in chips. He was followed closely by Jim Bucci who ended the day with 299,000. Rounding out the top 3 was Alex Luneau with 295,000.

Play started with 220 players out of the original 1,036 taking their seats and they would make the money early in the evening when Frankie O'Dell knocked out David Nicholson to burst the bubble. The defending champion in the event, Calen McNeil, would enter Day 2 with just 7,400 in chips but he battled his way to a respectable stack of 164,000 and will enter Day 3 with an excellent chance to defend his title.

Other notables with a shot at the bracelet include Greg Raymer (202,000), Chris Tryba (68,000), Konstantin Puchkov (289,000), Kal Raichura (276,000), Daniel Makowsky (213,000), Maria Ho (122,000) and Gary Benson (168,000).

There were plenty of names who would make the money including Erik Seidel (34th - $7,146), Mickey Appleman (36th - $7,146), Robert Mizrachi (43rd - $6,041), Dan Kelly (48th - $5,160), Toto Leonidas (55th - $4,461), Perry Green (61st - $4,461), Stephen Chidwick (72nd - $3,916), John Kabbaj (83rd - $3,132), Allen Cunningham (97th - $2,881), Eric Baldwin (101st - $2,657), and Matthew Ashton (107th - $2,657).

Those who would start the day with a stack but fall short of making the money included the likes of Barry Greenstein, Bryan Micon, Michael Mizrachi, Frank Kassela, Phil Ivey, George Danzer, John Hennigan, and Tom Koral.

The final 26 players will return for Day 3 tomorrow at 1 p.m. in the Amazon Room. PokerNews will be there from start to finish so tune in to see who will emerge with the $283,275 first place prize money.

McNeil Spikes One-Outer to Survive

Calen McNeil had to be happy after hitting an unlikely out.
Calen McNeil had to be happy after hitting an unlikely out.

Calen McNeil raised the button and got calls from Frankie O'Dell in the small blind and the big blind. O'Dell led out on the {a-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{k-Spades} flop, and the big blind folded. McNeil considered for a minute before raising, and he and O'Dell got it all in for McNeil's short stack.

McNeil: {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{5-Spades}{8-Spades}
O'Dell: {k-}{k-}{x-}{x-}

"I'm drawing dead!" the defending champ exclaimed.

Not quite, as the dealer burned and turned the {a-Spades}.

"Case ace," the big blind said, pointing at the card. The {j-Diamonds} river only gave McNeil a bigger boat.

At another table, Marc Durand, who had been clinging to a short stack for about half an hour, finally busted out.

Ho Tables Cards, Survives

Maria Ho thought she was done for.
Maria Ho thought she was done for.

Maria Ho bet from the small blind after a {j-Spades}{4-Spades}{k-Diamonds} flop and got called by big blind Greg Raymer. Aditya Prasetyo raised on the button, Ho raised all in for less than another bet, and Raymer called. The turn brought a {9-Diamonds} and two checks, and Raymer check-folded the {6-Clubs} river.

"Two pair," Prasetyo said, showing {a-}{3-}{4-}{6-}. Ho turned over {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} and got up to leave, unaware she'd made better two pair. She quickly sat back down when Raymer pointed out her hand.

David Nicholson is the Bubble Boy

Nível 14 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante

Frankie O'Dell, pictured in a different event.

A short stacked David Nicholson was all in from the blinds and facing one player, Frankie O'Dell. A short stack at another table survived their all in meaning Nicholson would be the bubble boy if he was eliminated. He didn't have much of a hand, {Q-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{6-Spades}, and was against O'Dell's {A-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{4-Spades}.

The board would run out {7-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{3-Spades}{2-Spades}{10-Hearts} to give O'Dell a wheel which was more than enough to take the pot down and eliminate Nicholson one short of the money.

Gerasimov Busts Hennigan

John Hennigan is busto.
John Hennigan is busto.

John Hennigan put the last of his chips in on the turn. The board was {q-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{10-Spades}, and Hennigan flipped {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{4-Spades}{3-Clubs}. Gerasimov had {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}{j-Spades}{9-Diamonds} for aces with a straight draw, and Hennigan was in trouble. The {8-Hearts} river improved only Gerasimov, and "Johnny World" hit the showers.

Ivey's Latest Run Ends

Nível 13 : 1,500/3,000, 0 ante
Phil Ivey busted relatively early on Day 2.
Phil Ivey busted relatively early on Day 2.

We found Phil Ivey calling off his last 1,200 on fourth street with {7-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{5-Spades} spread on the felt in front of the dealer. Jordan Cossette, who had bet, got one other caller in Tony Merksick, but both players checked the {7-Spades} river.

Cossette turned over {a-Clubs}{q-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} for a counterfeited two pair, but Merksick and Ivey both indicated they couldn't beat it. Ivey slapped his cards down and exited with a quick "good luck" to his former table.

Michael Mizrachi busted early on Day 2.
Michael Mizrachi busted early on Day 2.

Michael Mizrachi got the last of his chips in preflop and was called in two spots. Natasha Barbour forced the third player out with a bet on fourth street with the board reading {j-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{3-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}.

"Just a low," she said, turning {a-}{2-}{4-}{7-}

Mizrachi turned over {a-}{k-}{q-}{5-} for a leading high hand, but he still had some cards to fade. The river brought a {7-Hearts} to give Barbour a pair of sevens and the scooper, and Mizrachi wished everyone good luck.

Ivey Takes a Blow

Nível 11 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante
Phil Ivey
Phil Ivey

Phil Ivey raised from early position and it was folded around to Jordan Cossette in the big blind who made the call. The flop came {A-Spades}{8-Spades}{4-Clubs} and Cossette checked. Ivey bet and Cossette check-raised. Ivey called.

The turn was the {9-Clubs} and Cossette bet with Ivey making the call. This bet-call action took place again on the {7-Clubs} river. Cossette turned over {Q-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{2-Spades} for the nut-low with a baby flush. Ivey spread Cossette's cards out, took a careful look at them, and mucked his hand.
