Event #12: $1,500 Pot-Limit Hold'em

Eight Vie For The Bracelet in Pot-Limit Hold'em

Gregory Kolo
Gregory Kolo

Welcome to Day 3 of Event #12: $1,500 Pot-Limit Hold’em. After starting with 557 players two days ago, they will play down to a winner today. They will start the day with just eight players left, as Day 2 finished with a couple of levels of final table play.

Phil Collins was the first player eliminated from the final table, as he ran his pocket queens into the pocket kings of Gregory Kolo. A king on the flop all but sealed the fate of Collins as he was drawing dead to running queens. The set of kings held, however, and Collins was eliminated in ninth place, taking home $12,610.

Collins was not the only famous Phil who made a deep run as Phil Ivey played steady and calculated for much of Day 2 before eventually busting in 22nd when his flopped set was out-turned by his opponent.

With the help of the cooler he put on Collins, Gregory Kolo is our chip leader, stacked at 633,000. He will have to contend with seven others, including Kazu Oshima, who is second in chips with 425,000, end-of-Day-1 chip leader David Martirosyan (266,000), and former PokerStars executive, Dan Goldman, who comes in third with 335,000.

Play is scheduled to resume at 1 p.m. PDT today and we will be here with hand-for-hand action. Join PokerNews and the final eight as one of these players will be taking down a first-place prize $169,225 and the bracelet.

Hand #21: Tom McCormick opened to 56,000 from the button and Bui raised pot, putting McCormick all in for his last 9,000 and McCormick made the call. McCormick turned over {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs} and was looking to fade an ace as Bui tabled {a-Spades}{3-Diamonds}.

The board ran out {k-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{10-Clubs}{6-Spades}{8-Diamonds} and McCormick found a much-needed double up.

Hand #22: Kazu Oshima opened to 32,000 from the button and Gregory Kolo called from the big blind. The flop came down {8-Spades}{9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} and both players checked. After a turn of the {9-Clubs} both players again checked.

Bui got out of the way and Schoonbaert thought for a moment before eventually making the call with {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}. He would need to see some love as Martirosyan had {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}.

The flop was {5-Clubs}{5-Spades}{k-Hearts} and after the turn of the {10-Spades}, Schoonbaert was now searching for a jack as his only out. He didn’t find it, though, with the {8-Diamonds} on the river and Martirosyan doubles, leaving Schoonbaert rather short.

Martirosyan: {4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}
Bui: {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}

“Two tens on the flop,” said Bui.

He didn’t receive two but he did flop a set when the first three community cards ran out {Q-Spades}{A-Clubs}{10-Clubs}. The players asked for the {J-Clubs} to make things interesting, but the turn was the {5-Hearts}, which locked up the hand for Bui. The meaningless {Q-Hearts} landed on the river and Bui doubled up.
