The First Unibet Open of 2020 is Set To Go

The chips are ready, and players are arriving for the very first Unibet Open of 2020. The year gets started for the Unibet live series at the Bonnington Hotel in Dublin on February 26th with the first day of the festival featuring the ever-popular Battle Royale invitational tournament, as well as Day 1 of the two-day €2,200 High Roller.

Additionally, a new tournament is on the books for this series, the €225 Unibet Open-er with 20,000 chips to start, and 30 minute blind levels. The two day event has registration open for 8 full levels on Day 1, and remaining players at the end of the night will return on Thursday to play down to a winner. Players also have another satellite chance Wednesday evening at 7:30PM when €165 buys them a shot at a Day 1 entry for the Main Event. Further satellites for the Main run Thursday and Friday.

The €1100 Main Event gets underway on Thursday with the first of three day 1s. Day 1a kicks off at noon on Thursday giving players their first chance at the €250,000 guaranteed prize pool. Two more Day 1s run on Friday, with a regular Day 1b starting at noon, and a turbo Day 1c starting at 9PM. Main Event players start with 30,000 chips, and play 1 hour levels on Day 1a and 1b, with the Day 1c Turbo flight running 20 minute blinds.

The field for the series looks to be star-studded as well. As is usually the case, the field will be headlined by Unibet Ambassadors Dara O'Kearney and David Lappin. The pair are also hosts of the Unibet sponsored, GPI award winning podcast The Chip Race. In addition to O'Kearney and Lappin, Espen Jorstad, Alexandre Reard, and Monica Vaka round out the Ambassadorial team here in Dublin.

Along with the Ambassadors, Swedish poker legend Viktor “Isildur1” Blom will be at the Bonnington looking for a Unibet Open title. Two-time winner Dan Murariu will also be in attendance, along with Mateusz Moolhuisen, influencer Dehlia de Jong, Unibet Belgian Ambassador Charlotte Van Brabander, and qualifiers [Removed:402], Philip Huxley, and Domantas Klimčiauskas.

All the action will be streamed on the Unibet Open website, Twitch, Youtube, and Facebook, and as usual, the inimitable team of David "Davitsche" Vanderheyden and Henry "GTO Commentator" Kilbane will be bringing you all the action starting with the Battle Royale.

The five days of action are already underway with the Unibet Open-er and a satellite to the High Roller already running. Day 1 of the High Roller gets underway at 6PM Wednesday, with the Battle Royale set to start at 7PM. PokerNews will be on the floor from the first hand of Day 1a of the Main Event at noon on Thursday, providing live updates in real time throughout the Main Event.

It's Time for the Start of the Main Event

Nível 1 : 100/100, 100 ante

They are just moments away from the beginning of the first starting flight of the 2020 Unibet Open Dublin €1,100 Main Event. Day 1a kicks off at noon giving players their first opportunity to bag a stack for Day 2. The starting stack today will be 30,000 chips, and they'll play ten one hour levels before they stop for the day.

There are still two more chances for players to build a stack in the Main Event. Friday will feature two chances to get in the game, with a normal Day 1b flight starting at noon, and a turbo Day 1c runs at 9PM with 20 minute levels. In addition to the Main Event flights, there's lots of side action going on as well. The High Roller began last night, and plays into Day 2 today. Robbie Toan leads the way into Day 2, with Max Silver close behind with the second stack. Entry is still open on the High Roller, so expect some of the players from yesterday's Open-er to jump in to Day 2. Espen Jorstad has already paid the entry, after coming third in last night's Battle Royale event.

Both the Battle Royale and the Open-er finished last night. The Battle Royale took quite awhile before Dara O'Kearney ended up bubbling in 4th place. Espen Jorstad took third place, and after a single hand of heads up play, special guest Viktor Blom took down the €1,500 win over Unibet Ambassador and stream commentator David Vanderheyden . The Open-er was supposed to be a two-day event, but they played down pretty quickly, and ended up making a deal at the end, with the winner, Alex Kulev, taking home €3,725.

In addition to the Main Event, and Day 2 of the High Roller today, there will be a NLH Turbo event running at 4PM, as well as another satellite for the Main Event kicking off at 7:30PM. Stay tuned here for action throughout Day 1a of the Main.

Familiar Faces

Nível 1 : 100/100, 100 ante

Action is underway in Day 1a of the Main now, with 30 entries early in Level 1. Among the players in action in the Main so far today include Mateuz Moolhuizen, Aurelie Reard, Andy Black, and Oliver White.

Registration for Day 1a remains open until the beginning of Level 7, so there's still lots of time to get in the game.

Veenhuysen Defends Blind

Nível 1 : 100/100, 100 ante

Andy Black opened things up with a raise to 300 from middle position, and he was called by Tiago Santos in the hijack, as well as Tom Veenhuysen in the big blind. The flop came {a-Clubs}{q-Spades}{7-Hearts} and it checked to Black who continued for 300.

Veenhuysen was the only caller to see the {9-Diamonds} on the turn. They both checked, but Veenhuysen led for 1,100 on the {8-Hearts} river, and after a few seconds in the tank, Black made the call. Veenhuysen showed down {a-}{j-} for top pair, and Black mucked his hand.

Black Gets a Double

Nível 2 : 100/200, 200 ante

Micha Kulesza opened for a raise in the middle, and was called by Andy Black to his left, as well as Olivier Komar in the small blind. The eight-nine-four two spade flop was checked around. It checked to Black on the queen turn card, and he bet 700. Komar raised to 2,500, and Kulesza got out of the way, Black raised again to 7,500.

Komar called, and checked the river brick. Black shoved all in for around 19,000, and Komar called. Komar's pocket tens were oout-turned by the jack-queen of Black, and black scored a full double.

Sesay Gets no Callers on River

Nível 2 : 100/200, 200 ante

The board of {3-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{2-Spades}{9-Clubs}{k-Spades} was already down on the felt, and there was a sizable pot already in the middle. Small blind Sulaiman Sesay bet 8,500 into the pot, and while big blind Tomas Geleziunas tanked for awhile, both he and button player Eric Loschan got rid of their hands to send the pot to Sesay uncontested.

High Roller Down to Six Remaining

Nível 2 : 100/200, 200 ante

As Day 1a of the Main Event plays, the second day of the High Roller is also playing down to a winner. Niall Farrell was one of the players who jumped into the event on Day 2, and he's still in action on the final table, as is Espen Jorstad. The final six players are all chasing though is Max Silver, as he now has the biggest stack on the table with over 150,000.

Registration closed at the beginning of the current Level 11, so the final field is now set.
