Welcome to Day 1B of UKIPT Galway!

Player All In
Player All In

We're back for our second start day here on the West Coast of Ireland for UKIPT Main Event and all eyes will be on the number of runners the event receives today. Yesterday the board read 231 which means that Day 1B needs 769 players to avoid an overlay. Now, that is a lot of people to make up on a second start day so you can guarantee that every person and their grandmother with a spare €1,000 will be looking to head to Galway today in the hopes of making the most of that potential overlay.

It's going to get very busy today, that's for sure.

We've got the online master himself, Full Tilt Professional Viktor Blom, making an appearance, as are Full Tilt Ambassadors Dermot Blain and Sinem Melin - both of whom made finals in side events yesterday in the High Roller and 6-max respectively. Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody is also around while Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliott and former EPT winner Roberto Romanello are also making an appearance.

So if you've got the money, you might want to get down here to the Full Tilt Poker Village in Galway. You never know, you could be walking out in a few days time as a very rich person...

Registration Extended by Two Levels

Nível 1 : 25/50, 0 ante

The Full Tilt Poker UKIPT Galway Main Event features a €1,000,000 guarantee prize pool, which means the number of entrants must reach 1,000 in order for that guarantee to be met. With just 231 players entering the Day 1a flight, 769 players would have to enter today to reach the 1,000 goal.

That very well may not happen, which would result in a rare overlay, but the tournament staff has just announced that they are extending registration an extra two levels, which means players can still get in for the next seven hours or so. This will prove good news to anyone looking to scrounge together a last-minute buy-in or traveling to the west coast of Ireland for some poker action.

And They’re Off

Nível 1 : 25/50, 0 ante

Cards are in the air for the start of day 1b of the Galway UKIPT Main Event. Players are settling in to their seats, introducing themselves and looking forward to what they hope will be a long day ahead.

Dara O’Kearney of popular Irish crew “The Firm” is here. He recently won the Super Tuesday on PokerStars and qualified for this event online, so he is certainly on a good run of form. Dara opened an early pot for 125 and was called by Robert Moore. The blinds folded and we saw a flop.

{4-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{6-Spades}

O’Kearney led for 150 which was enough to claim the pot.

Jack Salter is also playing today, after his adventures in the high roller a couple of days ago. He is on the table with a gentleman dressed in a full leprechaun outfit.

So who will get their hands on the pot of gold at the end of the Galway Main Event Rainbow? Keep hammering F5 for all the latest news brought to you by PokerNews.com

WSOP Main Event Fifth-Place Finishers in Action

Nível 1 : 25/50, 0 ante

We've got a pair of players in the field that many of you might recognize from past World Series of Poker broadcast on ESPN — Andy Black and Jon Kalmar, both of who finished in fifth place at their respective Main Event final tables.

Black is best known for his appearance at 2005 WSOP Main Event final table. He is memorable as being the chip leader, Irish Buddhist monk and the man who shed a tear after busting in fifth place for $1.75 million. Here's a video snippet from the 2005 WSOP Main Event final table as seen on ESPN:

Two years after Black appeared at the final table, England's Jon Kalmar had his shot. The lover of old-school punk bands had the same fate as Black, finishing in fifth place for $1,255,069. Here's a look at Kalmar's post-elimination interview with PokerNews:

Nice Call by the Lady with the Ladies

Nível 1 : 25/50, 0 ante

With around 9,000 in the pot and a board reading {5-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{j-Hearts}, an unknown player in middle position checked and Renee Xie, who hails from the UK and is a PokerStars player, bet 3,500. Her opponent immediately reach for chips and came back with a check-raise to 8,500, which gave Xie pause.

She thought long and hard before grabbing a single tan T5,000 chip and tossing it in the pot. Her opponent sheepishly tabled the {a-Clubs}{q-Spades} for ace high, which was no good as Xie breathed a sigh of relief and showed her {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}.

No Sleep ‘Till Galway

Nível 1 : 25/50, 0 ante

Ryan Spittles Decided to play the UKIPT Main Event with just 90 minutes sleep, flying in to Dublin and heading straight to the tables as soon as he got to Galway. We haven’t seen him play any hands yet but Roberto Romanello is at his table looking fresh and getting busy early on.

Romanello opened to 125 and was called in the small blind by PokerStars qualifier Pekka Karvonen. Full Tilt qualifier Erin Harper in the big blind raised to 350, Romanello called and Karvonen folded.

The flop was {2-Hearts}{8-Spades}{8-Hearts} and when Harper led for 500 Romanello folded.

Not to be deterred Romenello opened the next pot for 125 and this time Harper in the small blind was the only caller. Harper checked the flop of {9-Clubs}{k-Spades}{j-Diamonds} and Romanello’s betof 150 claimed the pot.
