Damian Porebski Leads Day 1B; UKIPT Galway Hits €140,000 Overlay

Nível 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Damian Porebski
Damian Porebski

After just 231 players turned up for Day 1A of the UKIPT here in Galway, all eyes were on the board as to what the final number would be for Day 1B. There was a €1 million guarantee meaning that 769 players were needed otherwise there would be an overlay. Even the most optimistic among those in charge of the UKIPT probably did not believe that number of people would make it to Galway for the second start day. After giving people the chance to register up to the end of the dinner break, the final number was 629 meaning a total of 860 players for the first ever Full-Tilt-Poker-run UKIPT event. An overlay of €140,000 will no doubt prove painful though.

After ten levels of action, Damian Porebski was the chip leader for the Day 1B field with 205,200 – a substantial sum but it also serves to indicate how huge Alan Gold's lead was from Day 1A. The latter finished with over 270,000 from a field that had over 400 less runners! Nevertheless, Porebski will be going into Day 2 in second place. Also doing well was Tim Slater who finished today with 187,500 – thanks in huge part to a double elimination hand late in the day.

With over 400 more players than Day 1A, the poker room was absolutely full with a queue quickly gathering as the day started. No doubt the car park across the road was equally busy as a public service announcement late in the day reminded one patron to move his car as it was about to be towed away. Among those playing the second start day were Full Tilt Ambassadors Sin Melin and Dermot Blain as well as the myth wrapped in an enigma that is Full Tilt Professional Viktor "Isildur1" Blom. Unfortunately, none of the three managed to make it into Day 2 – Blain lasted the longest before he was crippled and eliminated in the last level of the day. Melin meanwhile was eliminated fairly early on while Blom ran jacks into kings just after dinner.

Some peoples' days were incredibly short like that of double-UKIPT winner Nick Abou Risk, who managed to bluff his stack into a straight flush while High Roller fourth-place finish Chris Day ran ace-king into aces preflop and admitted with hindsight he could've taken it a bit slower. Former EPT winner Roberto Romanello was another who had a short day. There were cameos from many of the original players from UK's Channel 4 ground-breaking poker show Late Night Poker, including Liam Flood, Simon Trumper and Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliott though only Flood would make it through the day – he was helped early on when he flopped trips against top two pair and then rivered quads for a full double up.

Others who did make it through included Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody who managed to come back from losing half his stack to finish the day with 98,700. Team PokerStars Online's Dale Philips finished with 83,200 while the winner of the Irish Poker Championships Trevor Dinneen continued his good run by ending the day with 166,600.

Tomorrow, the remaining players will be combining with Day 1A's survivors as they continue to play through the tournament. A total of 104 places will be paid with €2,180 for 104th while the winner will take home a huge €205,600. We'll be restarting again at 12 p.m. local time and the PokerNews Live Reporting Team will bring you all the details of the goings on in Galway from the first shuffle to the last river. Don't forget that as an added bonus, we'll also be covering the €10,000 Super High Roller – that event will be starting at 2 p.m. local time.

The Last FTP Ambassador Falls

Nível 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Dermot Blain
Dermot Blain

On Day 1a, Full Tilt Poker Ambassadors Martins Adeniya and Ben Jenkins fell. Today, the other two ambassadors — Dermot Blain and Sinem Melin — took their shot at poker glory.

Melin feel quite early here on Day 1b, which meant Blain was the last FTP Ambassador standing. Blain, who finished third in the High Roller yesterday, gave it his best, but he has fallen in the last level of the night.

It happened when he pushed his short stack of 4,700 in from middle position and received a call from the player in the hijack. Luke Grant then three-bet to 13,300 from the small blind and forced the hijack out of the hand.

Grant: {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}
Blain: {a-Clubs}{4-Clubs}

Blain seemed to know his time was up, and sure enough the board ran out {a-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} to send the Irishman to the rail

Blom Gone

Viktor Blom
Viktor Blom

Viktor Blom has been eliminated.

"He called off with seven-six suited against eight-five offsuit!" claimed Nicky Power.

Ok, so that didn't really happen, however convincing Power tried to be. The truth was a lot less exciting, he ran jacks into Richard Evans' kings.

On The Boyle

Nível 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
UKIPT Galway

Garrett Boyle might be the luckiest man in Galway at the moment. There was a three-way all in preflop with Boyle covering both Phillip Ryan and Eoin Olin.

Boyle: {K-Spades}{K-Clubs}
Ryan: {A-Clubs}{3-Clubs}
Olin: {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}

The board came {3-Spades}{8-Hearts}{6-Spades}{Q-Spades}{A-Spades} and Boyle backdoored into the nut flush to knock out both the other players and win a pot to put himself on 95,000.

An Orbit with FTP Professional Viktor "Isildur1" Blom

Nível 7 : 300/600, 75 ante
Viktor Blom
Viktor Blom

Prior to the break we took the opportunity to spend an orbit with Viktor "Isildur1" Blom, who is taking a break from the high-stakes online games to try his luck here in Galway. Here's what we saw in the nine hands we spent with the Swede.

Hand #1 (Button): Action folded to the cutoff, who raised to 800. Blom folded.

Hand #2 (Cutoff): Action folded to Blom and he opened for 800, which Paul Quinn called from the big blind. When the flop came down {5-Spades}{4-Hearts}{5-Clubs}, Quinn checked and then folded when Blom bet 1,000.

Hand #3 (Hijack): Facing a raise in front of him, Blom sent his cards to the muck.

Hand #4 (Middle Position): Zsolt Vasvenszki moved all in under the gun and Blom folded.

Hand #5 (Middle Position): Bruno Bressan opened for 800 under the gun and another player limped. Blom then called, as did the hijack and small blind, and then Zsolt Vasvenszki shoved all in from the big for 7,350. Bressan isolated with a four-bet to 14,500 and the rest of the players folded.

Bressan: {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}
Vasvenszki: {k-Spades}{6-Hearts}

The board ran out {3-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{7-Spades}{5-Clubs} and that was all she wrote for Vasvenszki.

Hand #6 (UTG +1): Ness Kourdourli, the girlfriend of Timothy Reilly, shoved all in for 4,475 under the gun, Blom folded and then Bruno Bressan called from the big blind. Kourdourli tabled the {7-Diamonds}{7-Spades} and was racing against Bressan's {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}. Unfortunately for Kourdourli, it was a race she wouldn't win as the board ran out {8-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} to give Bressan a winning pair of queens.

Hand #7 (Under the Gun): Blom folded.

Hand #8 (Big Blind): Blom got a walk.

Hand #9 (Small Blind): The hijack raised to 1,300 and Blom folded.

Devilfish's Day is Done

Nível 6 : 200/400, 50 ante
Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliott
Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliott

After Rory Brennan opened for 900 under the gun, Keith Brennan called from middle position and a short-stacked David "Devilfish" Ulliott defended from the big. Two checks on the {4-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} flop saw Keith bet 1,500 and the Devilfish thought for a minute before moving all in for 3,500. Rory Brennan then called and Keith got out of the way.

Ulliott: {a-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}
Brennan: {k-Spades}{q-Spades}

"I knew he didn't have anything," Ulliott said while pointing at Keith. What he didn't expect was for Brennan to wake up with the best hand. The {5-Spades} turn gave Ulliott, who was by this time standing, some more outs, but the {K-Clubs} river would miss them all. "Cheers mate," Ulliott said sincerely. "Well done."

Adeniya on Busting the Main, Drinking with Viktor Blom & More

Nível 3 : 75/150, 0 ante
Martins Adeniya
Martins Adeniya

Last month Martins Adeniya was announced as one of four Full Tilt Poker ambassadors brought in to represent the online room at all stops of the United Kingdom and Ireland Poker Tour (UKIPT). His first assignment was the FTP UKIPT Galway Festival, which has been playing out over the last week on the west coast of Ireland.

Adeniya discovered poker while studying business at the University of Bath and quickly worked his way up from low-stakes home games to multi-tabling $10/$20 NL Hold’em online. After earning over $180,000 for a third place finish in the FTOPS Main Event, Martins decided to focus 100% on poker.

Since then Adeinya has become a rising star in the poker world with $487,965 in career earnings dating back to 2009. Among his notable accomplishments are a seventh-place finish in the 2011 EPT/UKIPT London Main Event for $134,964; 13th in the 2010 World Series of Poker $25,000 No Limit Hold’em – Six Handed for $58,699; 9th in the 2010 WSOP $2,500 No Limit Hold’em – Six Handed for $40,547; second in a 2010 Venetian Deep Stack $500 No Limit Hold’em for $28,265; and 474th in the 2009 WSOP Main Event for $25,027. The only win on Adeniya’s résumé came in 2012 in the £500 London Super Stack Series – High Roller for $16,899.

Even though he busted on Day 1a, PokerNews caught up with the Londoner on the first break of Day 1b to see what he's been up to in the last 24 hours.

PokerNews: You busted late on Day 1a of the Main Event. What did you do after your elimination?

Adeniya: I went back to the room for about 20 minutes and then I got the call that bars and clubs were being hit tonight and that I needed to be there. So I came down to the Full Tilt Poker Village, was having a few drinks with Jake Cody and Liv Boeree. We were drinking here until pretty late and then we went to a club but the club was shut, so we went back to the Harbor Hotel where we met up with Viktor Blom as well. Everyone was out and we were all just ordering shots and drinks. A lot of vodka was consumed.

Most people only know Blom from his online play. Is he fun to drink and socialize with?

He's a funny guy. I can't release too many stories from what happened last night, but it was a good laugh.

Is it safe to assume that since he hasn't made it to Day 1b yet that he is sleeping in and maybe tending to a bit of a hangover?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he's still in recovery right now [laughs].

Since you're out of the Main Event, what are your plans here in Galway? Will you be playing the FTOPS?

Today I plan on just getting some food and then I might play online a bit. I'm actually thinking of going to Pure Skill, which is a place we went to earlier in the week. It's like a sports center where you can play football, basketball, baseball and all sorts of other sports like that. It's a lot of fun actually. We have team scoring and we plan on going down there and having some side bets on the action.

Prior to the start of the Full Tilt Poker UKIPT Galway Festival, FTP announced four ambassadors to represent their site this season on the UKIPT. Among them is Sinem ‘Sin’ Melin, who is one of Britain’s rising female poker stars having final tabled both the 2011 UKIPT Brighton Main Event and the 2013 GUKPT London Main Event.

We recently spent an orbit with Melin, who was sitting with approximately 22,000, here in the Main Event. Take a look.

Hand #1 (Hijack): Action folded to Melin and she did the same.

Hand #2 (Middle Position): Action folded to Melin and she raised to 225, which was good enough to win the pot.

Hand #3 (Middle Position): The under-the-gun player opened for 275 and Melin folded when action reached her.

Hand #4 (Middle Position): Melin opened for 250 and received calls from Janos Jeszek and Giuseppe Cavallo in middle position and the big blind respectively. When the flop came down {a-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{4-Clubs}, Cavallo checked and Melin bet 350. Jeszek called, Cavallo folded and the {3-Hearts} turned. Melin bet 650, Jeszek quickly called and the {J-Diamonds} completed the board on the river. This time Melin checked and then folded when Jeszek bet 1,250.

Hand #5 (UTG +1): Melin opened for 225 and then called when the small blind three-bet to 675. Both players checked the {a-Spades}{2-Clubs}{3-Clubs} flop and then Melin folded to a bet of 800 on the {Q-Clubs} turn.

Hand #6 (Under the Gun): Melin folded.

Hand #7 (Big Blind): Action folded to Melin and she received a walk. She showed the {a-Spades}{10-Spades} in the big blind.

Hand #8 (Small Blind): A player in early position opened for 250, a middle-position player called and then the hijack three-bet to 900. Melin folded.

Hand #9 (Button): A player in middle position opened for 275 and then the cutoff three-bet to 700. Melin folded the button.

Hand #10 (Cutoff): A player in early position raised to 275, a late-position player called and Melin did the same. The button and blinds came along and six players saw a flop of {2-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}. Three checks saw the late-position player bet 600, only Melin called and the {7-Clubs} turned, which both players checked. When the {J-Hearts} completed the board on the river, the late-position player bet 1,500 and Melin called. Her opponent tabled the {j-Spades}{a-Diamonds} and Melin sent her cards to the muck unseen.
