Welcome to Day 1a of the 2017 PokerStars Championship Macau Main Event
In one hour from now at 12 p.m. local time, one of the highlights of the 2017 PokerStars Chamoionship Macau gets underway at the PokerStars Live Macau poker room at City of Dreams. The first of two starting days for the HKD42,400 Main Event kicks off and will feature a total of six levels of 75 minutes each with a starting stack of 30,000. Registration will remain open for another two levels on Day 2 and there will be a break of 15 minutes every two levels before bagging and tagging.
So far, the first ever PokerStars Championship on Asian soil has attracted fantastic numbers for the events with massive 818 entries in the HK$8,800 PokerStars National Championship and 88 entries in the HK$400,000 Super High Roller. The former event is down to the final table with Koen Breed holding a big chip lead and will determine a winner today, while the same also applies for the Super High Roller as well.
Steve O'Dwyer leads the final 14 players on the money bubble, as the tournament will also come to a conclusion today. While many big names are still hoping for a major title in the Super High Roller, you can expect the PokerStars Team Pros Celina Lin, Felipe Ramos and Team Online Randy "nanonoko" Lew in action of the Main Event.

It is the third PokerStars Championship since the inauguration of the series that follows into the footsteps of the European Poker Tour with stops at the Bahamas and in Panama so far. Christian Harder defeated a 738-entry strong field in January 2017 for a payday of $429,664, while Kenneth Smaron emerged victorious just a few weeks ago in Panama after coming out on top of a 366-entry strong field, claiming $293,860 for his efforts.

Dong At the Starting Gong

One player who has plenty of experience finding deep runs in Macau tournaments is Beijing's Dong Guo. Just in the last six months, he has cashed for more than HK$1.3 million in Macau, including two wins and one runner-up result.
He has a seat here right from Level 1 of the Main Event and collected a small pot when he went to showdown with

In the very next hand, he bet 300 at the turn with

Menes Takes from Lau

One of the tables with several notables includes Daniel Laidlaw, David Peters and Ka Kwan Lau, but the first major pot of the day went to Gigi Menes.
In a three-way pot to the flop of 
, Lau checked out of the big blind and Menes checked behind from under the gun. On the 
turn, Lau bet 475 and Menes called before the 
appeared on the river. Lau bet 2,550 and Menes didn't announce anything, but tossed in 3,100 in chips.
The floor was called, but since it was less than 50% of the bet, it was ruled as call only. Lau turned over his

Fatehi Takes it on the Turn; Bonham Gets Paid

Two players on the early rise are Ali Reza Fatehi and David Bonham.
Fatehi, who already participated in the Super High Roller, was spotted raising it up to 250 in the hijack and Wenwu Xue three-bet to 700 on the button. Fatehi came along and then bet the 
flop for 850, which Xue called. On the 
turn, Fatehi made it 3,950 to go and that proved to be too much for his opponent, as Xue folded.
Bonham, who won his entry to the tournament through a Live Satellite here at the PokerStars Live Macau poker room, was involved in a big pot with the board already complete showing 
. There were around 7,500 in the middle and Bonham bet 3,650, which received a call by PokerStars qualifier Sergey Kogotkov. Bonham turned over 
for the nut flush and scooped the pot.

Benjamin Hamnett sat down next to Gigi Menes and Ka Kwan Lau, while Huidong Go took a seat one table over. And then there was also Pierre Calamusa, who entered the competition in level one.
In one of the first few hands, Calamusa was facing a raise to 250 by the hijack and three-bet to 850 while eating an apple. The opponent eventually folded
