David Peters Leads $3,000 PCA Mystery Bounty After Eventful Day 2

Nível 26 : Blinds 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
David Peters
David Peters

A flurry of action at the 2023 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure saw David Peters bag the overnight chip lead after Day 2 of the $3,000 PCA Mystery Bounty event. The high stakes veteran leads the final 22 players, looking to add to his impressive resume with a PCA title in The Bahamas.

Peters collected chips and bounties all day to take a slim lead over Andy Wilson heading into the final day of action. Michael Uguccioni sits third, while Bulgarians Petar Kalev and Yuliyan Kolev round out the top five spots with just the final three tables remaining. Canadians Sebastien Aube and Luc Lafontaine are next on the list, with Mauricio Sanchez and Kitty Kuo right behind. American Samuel Cobian has the only other seven-figure chip count sitting in tenth position.

A total of 372 entries began the day, including the players who returned after surviving Day 1. That number included around 140 new entrants before the late registration period closed as play Day 2 began.

The first level saw a flurry of action around the room at the beautiful Baha Mar Resort, as players moved all-in with short stacks and bounty cards were in high demand. PokerStars Ambassadors Lex Veldhuis and Parker Talbot were among the notable names to finish short of the money but collect bounties. That group also included Chance Kornuth, Dominik Nitsche and Byron Kaverman.

The first big bounty moment of the day came early when Joey Weissman pulled the $40,000 ticket. The next came on the first break, when Michael Jozoff pulled the PokerStars Platinum Pass but was eliminated on the very next level of play. Late in the night, Aube was the first to score the highest bounty prize, pulling the $100,000 ticket before bagging his stack. This leaves one final $100,000 bounty prize and one $40,000 ticket in play for the final 22 players on Day 3.

Among the notables in the money was PokerStars Team Pro Benjamin Spragg, along with seasoned pros Chino Rheem, Shaun Deeb, and Erik Seidel. Conor Beresford, fresh off his PCA title in Event #19: $50,000 7-Handed, made another deep run and pulled one of the $25,000 bounty tickets.

Players will return to their seats on Saturday, where the blinds will resume on level 27 at 20,000/40,000 and a 40,000 big blind ante. The 40-minute levels will continue, with 15-minute breaks after every three until a new PCA champion is crowned.

Stay tuned to PokerNews for our continuous live reporting all the way through the final hand and the next trophy being handed out here in The Bahamas.

Roberto Romanello
Roberto Romanello

Yuliyan Kolev raised to 60,000 from the hijack and Roberto Romanello defended from the big blind. The flop came {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} and Romanello checked to Kolev who bet 50,000. Romanello check-raised to 105,000 and Kolev announced all in. Romanello quickly called off his stack of around 275,000 and the cards were tabled.

Roberto Romanello: {k-Spades}{8-Spades}
Yuliyan Kolev: {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}

The turn brought the {k-Hearts} to give Romanello a full house but the {10-Diamonds} on the river gave Kolev a bigger full house to eliminate Romanello.

Cobian Cracks Greenwood's Kings

Nível 26 : Blinds 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Sam Greenwood
Sam Greenwood

The action folded to Samuel Cobian who shoved all in on the button with two shorter stacks in the blinds. Sam Greenwood woke up with a monster in the big blind and called off his stack of 440,000.

Sam Greenwood: {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}
Samuel Cobian: {2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}

The flop of {9-Spades}{7-Hearts}{6-Clubs} was safe for Greenwood but the {2-Spades} on the turn was exactly what Cobian was looking for. The {7-Diamonds} on the river couldn't bail out Greenwood who was eliminated.

Peters Turns Two Bounties

Nível 24 : Blinds 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
David Peters
David Peters

Eric Shwarcer opened to 40,000 from middle position and was immediately met by an all-in from Dario Sammartino of 141,000. David Peters then followed with a four-bet to 242,000 from the small blind, leaving the action back on Shwarcer.

The call was made with Sammartino at risk while the {q-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{3-Spades} flop was revealed. Peters checked to Shwarcer, who fired 200,000 into the middle. Peters called to see the {9-Clubs} turn and checked again. Shwarcer continued by announcing all-in, which Peters called instantly.

Dario Sammartino: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Eric Shwarcer: {k-Hearts}{q-Spades}
David Peters: {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}

Peters turned a set to take the lead over Shwarcer's top pair, while Sammartino could only watch in disbelief as his pocket kings were turned over. The river {8-Diamonds} changed nothing, with Peters eliminating Sammartino while also slightly covering Shwarcer for the double bounty and a massive stack.

Yuri Dzivielevski and Kayhan Roshanfekr were heads up to the flop, with Roshanfekr in position on the button.

Yuri Dzivielevski: {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Kayhan Roshanfekr: {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs}

Dzivielevski made the call and saw the bad news, with Roshanfekr showing two pair to take down one of the biggest pots of the tournament.

Pedro Gumao: {k-Spades}{q-Diamonds}

"Keep them low, dealer," Failla said, as he revealed his pocket pair. The {a-Hearts}{7-Spades}{4-Spades} flop was clean, but the {j-Hearts} turn brought Gusmao some additional outs. The {10-Diamonds} river made Broadway and Gusmao eliminated Failla.

Rayan Chamas
Rayan Chamas

Rayan Chamas opened to 26,000 in early position and Michael Uguccioni three-bet to 70,000 in the cutoff. Luc Lafontaine ripped all in for 110,000 on the button and Chamas came over the top as well. Uguccioni quickly called off his stack of 352,000 and all three hands were face up.

Luc Lafontaine: {6-Spades}{6-Clubs}
Michael Uguccioni: {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}
Rayan Chamas: {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}

The flop came {9-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{3-Clubs} to give Chamas a flush draw but Lafontaine was still in the lead with his pair of sixes. The {2-Hearts} and {4-Diamonds} runout changed nothing as Lafontaine tripled up and Uguccioni won a healthy side pot from Chamas.

Rheem Rides the Rollercoaster

Nível 20 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Chino Rheem
Chino Rheem

Chino Rheem was all-in on three straight hands, winning two while losing the only one he could afford to.

First, Rheem's {a-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} was ahead of Jerome Brion's {k-Spades}{9-Hearts} and held after the {j-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{4-Spades} runout for the double up.

The two battled again on the very next hand, but this time Brion's {a-Hearts}{5-Clubs} bested Rheem with the {8-Diamonds}{7-Spades}.

Rheem was all-in and at risk again as the next cards were dealt, this time against Omri Moga.

Chino Rheem: {q-Spades}{j-Clubs}
Omri Moga: {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}

Rheem survived again on the {10-Spades}{9-Spades}{7-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{2-Spades} runout, making the nuts to double his stack back up.
