Natalie Teh Takes Chip Lead into Day 3 of the Main Event; Talbot, Bechrakis, Wigg, and Conan Bag Big Too

Nível 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Natalie Teh

Day 2 of the €5,300 EPT Main Event has come to an end after five levels of 90 minutes each with Malaysia’s Natalie Teh claiming the chip lead here in the Hilton Prague with 786,000 in chips. After the bubble burst in the last level of the night, 137 players managed to find a bag to seal for Day 3.

As most people are aware, a Platinum Pass will be given to the winner of this Main Event, but Teh already has one. She was awarded a Platinum Pass through the “Next Great Poker Brain” quiz that PokerStars Team Pros Igor Kurganov and Liv Boeree had set up. Teh started playing while she was in university but decided to quit her job at the end of last year and play professionally this year. And she’s doing pretty well as she has already racked up fifteen cashes this year.

Teh won a huge pot to jump into the chip lead when she rivered a set of queens against Michal Schuh who held pocket aces. Even though there were several people competing for that chip lead, Teh came out victorious in the end. Parker Talbot follows Teh with 773,500 in chips. The popular Twitch streamer from Canada is more known for his online achievements but is making himself more known in the live circuit too. With over $400,000 in live tournament results, he will be looking to add even more to that.

Closing the podium is Evangelos Bechrakis from Greece who bagged 730,000 tonight. Bechrakis finished in 3rd place in the €2,200 EPT National High Roller a mere two nights ago for €144,900 which was also his biggest live cash ever. Anton Wigg (708,500) and Arthur Conan are the only other players who have managed to collect more than 700,000 throughout the day.

The day started with 440 players as 25 players decided to reenter or buy in before the tournament clock kicked off for the first 90-minute level of the day. This meant that there were 1,174 entries in total for the Main Event, which includes 281 reentries. This created a total prize pool of €5,693,900 with 175 players getting paid at least €8,710. The winner on the final day will walk away with €1,020,000, the beautiful PokerStars trophy, and a Platinum Pass package worth $30,000!

By the time the first break started, almost ninety players busted already. Players like 2013 WSOP Main Event Champion Ryan Riess, Kenny Hallaert, Ari Engel, Joao Barbosa, Max Silver, Daniel Dvoress, Antoine Labat, and Michael Addamo. And the pace didn’t let up throughout the rest of the day as defending champion Kalidou Sow was eliminated. So were Niall Farrell, Sam Greenwood, Pavel Plesuv, Julian Thomas, Tom Hall, Bryan Paris, Thomas Boivin, Steven van Zadelhoff, Andras Nemeth, Florian Duta, Kacper Pyzara, Michal Mrakes, Andy Black, Marc-Andre Ladouceur, and Jan Bendik[/b].

PokerStars Team Pros Muskan Sethi and Fatima Moreira De Melo also couldn’t make it into the money. Sethi shoved her ace-queen into the ten-nine of Bechrakis who flopped two pair and Moreira De Melo’s pocket jacks couldn’t beat the ace-queen of her opponent as he hit a queen on the flop.

The bubble lasted about 40 minutes, Mateusz Wozniak first doubled up through Pavel Veksler with pocket kings against Veksler’s pocket queens and hit quads. A few hands later, Wozniak burst the bubble by dealing Veksler the final blow when it all went in on the river. Veksler’s two pair couldn’t beat the flush that Wozniak had rivered. When the tournament director announced that the bubble had burst, the applause could be heard from all players spread over the tables here in the poker room.

With an hour left to play, almost 40 players would bust during that hour, collecting their min-cash, either bitterly disappointed to not make Day 3, or extremely happy to have won money with their short stacks. The 137 surviving players will return at noon tomorrow, Friday, December 14, to continue to play Level 16 which features a small blind of 2,500, big blind of 5,000, and a big blind ante of 5,000.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be on the floor again to bring you all the action from the first card of the deck until the final chip has been bagged so make sure to keep following the updates!

Wigg Making Waves

Nível 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Anton Wigg
Anton Wigg

EPT Kopenhagen winner Anton Wigg has been near the chiplead all day and just added some more to his already impressive stack.

He opened the hijack for 9,000 and Krasimir Yankov called from the button. Wigg checked on {J-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{4-Spades} and Yankov bet 10,000. Wigg check-raised to 42,000 and Yankov called.

Wigg bet 68,000 on the {Q-Spades} turn and Yankov called once more.

They both checked the {J-Spades} river and Wigg tabled {7-}{7-} for the winning hand as Yankov mucked.

Wozniak Finishes the Job: Veksler Bubbles the EPT Prague Main Event

Nível 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Not too long ago, Mateusz Wozniak doubled through Pavel Veksler in a kings versus queens hand we reported on.

Now, on the stone bubble of the Main Event, the two clashed again. This time, though, everything would be on the line for Veksler.

Veksler opened the cutoff for 9,000 and his neighbor Wozniak called. The flop of {5-Spades}{J-Spades}{4-Spades} was still a somewhat reasonable affair as Veksler bet 15,000 and Wozniak just called.

The {4-Clubs} on the turn was checked by both and Veksler, with about 150,000 or so behind according to one of his tablemates after the hand, checked the {9-Spades} river. Wozniak now shoved all in for about 2.5 times the size of the pot.

As the dealer forgot to put the all-in button out, part of the audience wasn't too sure what was going on but for the players involved, it was very clear what was at stake.

Veksler tanked for quite some time and eventually called.

Wozniak showed {A-Spades}{J-Clubs} for the nut flush on the paired board. Veksler mucked but was eventually asked to show and tabled {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts}.

Down to 175 players now, all guaranteed €8,710. With the tournament now in the money, 30-second shot clocks are now in place with players having all received two time bank cards.

Teh Doubles Through Schuh for Chip Lead

Nível 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Natalie Teh
Natalie Teh

Natalie Teh raised to 6,500 from under the gun and Michal Schuh three-bet to 20,000 from the hijack. Action folded back to Teh who four-bet to 70,000 and Schuh called.

The flop came {5-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}, Teh continued with a bet of 50,000 and Schuh called again.

The turn was the {j-Spades}, Teh now checked and Schuh bet 75,000. Teh tanked for about three minutes before making the call.

The river completed the board with the {q-Spades}, Teh shoved for her last 66,000 and Schuh snap-called. Teh tabled {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs} for the rivered set of queens which maddened Schuh so much that he crumpled his cards up. The dealer retrieved the cards which were {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds} and the floor was called over for a new deck. Schuh received a one-round penalty for his action.

Fatima Moreira de Melo Eliminated

Nível 12 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Fatima Moreira de Melo
Fatima Moreira de Melo

With Muskan Sethi eliminated not too long ago, Fatima Moreira de Melo was Team PokerStars Pro's last hope. Well, those hopes are now squashed as she too has hit the rail.

Moreira de Melo told us how she opened the hijack to 4,500 holding {J-}{J-}. The player in the cutoff three-bet to 15,500 and the button and both blinds gave up. Moreira de Melo shoved for around 60,000 or so and the cutoff called.

The cutoff showed {A-}{Q-} and hit a queen right on the flop. Moreira de Melo received no help on the turn or river and packed her things and made her exit.

Evangelos Bechrakis opened the action with a raise to 4,500 from middle position. It folded to Muskan Sethi in the small blind who committed her last 37,000 by shoving all in. The big blind folded and Bechrakis, though not overly excited, called right away.

Muskan Sethi: {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}
Evangelos Bechrakis: {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}

The flop brought {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{3-Hearts} pairing Bechrakis twice. The {J-Hearts} on the turn brought Sethi some fresh outs but the {4-Clubs} on the river wasn't one of the cards she was looking for.

€1,020,000 For the Winner

Nível 11 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

With 1,174 entries (893 unique players and 281 reentries), the total prize pool has come to €5,693,900 ($6,427,432) here at the PokerStars EPT Prague. €1,020,000 ($1,151,404) of that is reserved for the winner who'll be crowned on Tuesday. The runner-up is set to receive €600,810, so a heads-up match for €419,190 is in the books unless the players reach a deal. A total of 175 spots are paid with a min-cash being worth €8,710 ($9,832).

Last time the EPT Prague was held, back in 2016, Jasper Meijer van Putten beat a field of 1,192 players to take home €699,300, the biggest share from a total prize pool of €5,781,200. That event, though, was a freeze-out with no reentries allowed.

In 2017, when this event ran as part of the now defunct PokerStars Championship tour, the event attracted 855 players with Kalidou Sow coming out on top to take home €675,000 from the €4,146,750 prize pool.

Full House over Full House Leaves Mooney Crippled, Paris Surging

Nível 11 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

We got there on the river, but Bryan Paris told us the details afterward.

Paris opened from middle position for 3,500 and John Mooney called in the hijack. Paris bet 4,000 on the {8-Spades}{7-Clubs}{4-Hearts} flop and Mooney called in position before the {8-Clubs} on the turn was checked through.

The {Q-Spades} hit the river and Paris bet 25,000, the vast majority of his chips. Mooney shoved all in and Paris called right away.

John Mooney showed {7-Hearts}{8-Hearts} for the full house, but that turned out not to be the winner as Paris tabled {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}!

Mooney, kind of shellshocked, took a picture of the board and so did Paris. Mooney then got up from the table and headed for the exit before the players at the table called him back as he still had 15,000 left to play with.

Get Ready For Day 2!

At noon, Day 2 of the PokerStars European Poker Tour Prague Main Event gets back underway. With 371 players turning up for Day 1a and 785 entries on Day 1b, a total of 1,156 entries have been made into the year's last EPT stop on the starting days.

127 survived Day 1a, 288 survived Day 1b, and at least three new players registered right before the start of Day 2, so a minimum of 418 players return to action today.

Day 1a chipleader John Sarailis from Greece starts out with the biggest stack of them all, 297,400 in chips. He's only slightly ahead of Day 1b's chipleader Armin Mette from Austria who'll bring 280,000 to the table when play gets back underway.

Five 90-minute levels are scheduled for the day, with a 20-minute break after each level. That makes for the following blind structure:
