Welcome to Day 3 of the 2016 PokerStars EPT Prague Main Event

Pedro Lamarca
Pedro Lamarca

The PokerStars European Poker Tour is ending its chapter in history in style, as EPT Prague, the tour's final Main Event, attracted a record field of 1,192 for the festival in the Czech capital. The field entering today has since shrunk to 231 players, or the exact amount of players to reach the money in the tournament.

Yesterday ended a little later than scheduled since as time was ticking down for the day, the tournament moved into hand-for-hand mode with players anticipating the bubble to break with 232 players left. After several players survived all ins, Attila Valentai was the last player to finish outside the money when his ace-king was unable to out-flip his opponent's pocket eights despite a king appearing on the flop.

While everyone returning today is guaranteed a share of the massive prize pool of €5,781,200 and at least a minimum cash of €7,560, many have their eyes on the first-place payout of €774,600 which will be awarded to the last man or woman standing on Day 6.

The 2010 EPT Grand Final Main Event champion Nicolas Chouity enters today sitting in the lead with 644,000 in chips to his name. Other big stacks heading into Day 3 include Eduards Kudrjavcevs (547,000), Nandor Solyom (526,500), Matas Cimbolas (481,500), Pedro Lamarca (480,000), Apostolos Bechrakis (478,500), Ludovic Lacay (438,000), Thomas Muehloecker (430,000), Samuel Vousden (428,500), Artur Rudziankov (415,500) and Benjamin Pollak (407,500).

Some big name players also returning for action today on Day 3 include Pablo Gordillo (313,000), David Peters (305,000), Fabrice Soulier (200,000), [Removed:197] (199,500), Juha Helppi (179,000), Ari Engel (106,500) and the Team PokerStars Pros Felipe Ramos (106,500) and Vanessa Selbst (69,000).

Players will begin with Level 15 (2,000/4,000/500) at the start of play and are scheduled to play five levels with breaks taking place after each level. Blind levels will increase every 90 minutes instead of every 75 minutes as been the case the previous days.

Stay tuned to PokerNews throughout the day for live updates to see how the final EPT Main Event shakes out as players get deeper into the money.

Cards in the Air!

Nível 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

The first hand has just been dealt. Due to the bubble taking a little time to break before the end of the day yesterday, the first level of the day is 71 minutes instead of 90. After the level is complete, players will go on their first 20-minute break of the day.

Sarkis Doubles

Nível 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Things couldn't have started better for Wael Sarkis as he doubled in the first hand. But where there's winners, there are people losing the chips. In this case, Joan Fabregas Capellas was the one having to part ways with chips.

Wael Sarkis (button) and Joan Fabregas Capellas (small blind) got their chips in before the flop. Sarkis had the {A-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} while Capellas held the {4-Spades}{4-Clubs}. The board ran out {Q-Spades}{6-Spades}{J-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and Sarkis doubled.

Wigg and Staszko Double

Nível 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Anton Wigg was all in and at risk for 19,500 from the small blind with {J-Hearts}{6-Spades} and Arne Kern looked him up with the {9-Clubs}{8-Hearts}. The board ran out {Q-Hearts}{5-Spades}{5-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{7-Spades} and the jack won it for the Swede.

Martin Staszko also survived his first all in of the day. Pierre Calamusa raised from under the gun and Staszko shoved for 29,500 from the big blind. Calamusa called with {J-Clubs}{7-Spades} and Staszko had the {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}. The board came {Q-Spades}{9-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{4-Spades} and the former November Niner doubled up.

Paloniemi Doubles Through Perez

Nível 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

We found Jukka Paloniemi all in from the button for about 115,000, with Juan Bastida Perez tanking on his right. Perez did decide to call and showed down {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds} against {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades}. The board ran out {6-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}, so Paloniemi needed to catch on the river, and that's what happened when the {a-Clubs} emerged from the deck.

Sandsgaard Cracks Wong's Aces

Nível 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

From the cutoff, Borge Sandsgaard opened to 9,000 and Jerry Wong three-bet to 24,000 in the small blind. Sandsgaard moved all in and Wong quickly called, having the Norwegian dominated. Sandsgaard was in shell shock and gasped a "oh my god" after having run into aces.

Borge Sandsgaard: {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}
Jerry Wong: {A-Clubs}{A-Spades}

The board ran out {Q-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{5-Diamonds} to give Sandsgaard a set and he doubled for 269,000, immediately apologized to his opponent. Wong kept a smile on the face and replied with "it's all good."

All In & Calls Around the Room

Nível 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Day 3 has begun at a fast and furious pace with shouts of "all-in", "call" and "seat open" being the dominant background noise along with the usual chip shuffling.

While many of the shorter stacks are already doubling up, just as many are leaving the tournament arena. One player to have his day cut early was Romania's Elvis Petcu who got his short stack all in on the flop of {J-Spades}{6-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} against Slovakia's Tomas Kubaliak.

Kubaliak, who was holding {9-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}, or middle pair, was ahead of Petcu who was holding {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} and his hand improved even further to a flush after the {q-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} completed the board. Petcu walked away with a minimum cash of €7,580, who Kubaliak's stack is a little more than he started the day with at around 240,000.
